Chapter 1335
"We're getting ahead of ourselves. You haven't told me why you went to see her."This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Luther crossed his legs and looked casual. "Why did I go see her? Why can't I? You two had already split up when I saw her, so I wasn't causing any trouble between you."
"You know that's not what I'm asking," James said, his voice growing colder.
"Oh, you're asking me the reason I went to see her? You're so young, try to stay calm or you'll look old fast." Luther glanced at him and quickly covered his mouth. "I'm sorry, I forgot you don't have the chance to grow old."
It didn't sound mean but it was hurtful. Luther said that on purpose to upset him, but James showed no reaction and kept a straight face.
"Okay, I didn't really say anything to her. I just hinted at why you did what you did."
James didn't believe him and looked doubtful. "Is that all?"
Luther shrugged. "Yes. I actually hope you two get back together, so I didn't tell her anything else. That's why she came right back to see you with me."
James then understood why Esther suddenly returned and was so persistent. Luther had arranged it.
But wait... "When Esther came over, you were there too?"
Luther widened his eyes, surprised. "Yes, I brought her myself. Didn't you know?"
No one had told James that Luther was there. "No."
"Aunt Agnes hid it quite well then." When Luther mentioned Agnes, he secretly scoffed.
"I don't know what you're up to now, but stay away from my friends and family or you'll regret it."
Luther raised his eyebrows. "You know who I am. I'm just the family outcast. What harm can I do? The worst I could do is take some of the inheritance, right?"
It sounded like he was challenging him.
James knew Luther was hiding something. He didn't trust him.
"Don't even think about it."
Luther wasn't bothered by James's stern voice. "It all depends on how capable you are. Seeing how sick you are, I might end up with the inheritance without even trying."
It was hard to hear, but it was the truth.
James stayed quiet, just staring, but his look was enough to warn Luther. "Don't worry about it. Leave the people around me alone, especially Esther."
Luther knew their talk wouldn't end well, so he gave James a mysterious look, stood up, and walked out. James wasn't as simple as he had thought.
