Chapter 82
Chapter 82
Natalie’s heart pounded as she used her fingerprint and iris scan to unlock the server room at King’s
headquarters. She scrutinized every inch of the space, her years of experience telling her that
something was off.
In the almost three years Natalie had been working at Truth Group HQ, not a single data leak had
occurred. Someone must have cracked King’s codes if Truth Group’s defense systems hadn’t been
breached.
Minutes later, she confirmed the defense system was still flawless. However, the computer logs
showed unauthorized access from two days prior.
It was clear to Natalie that a mole within Truth Group had conspired against King, exploiting his
absence to sell secrets to a rival firm.
She had spent the previous night listening to recordings of all eight management team members and
knew who the traitor was. It was the person King had first brought into the company, known only by the
code name ‘Q‘.
Without wasting a second, Natalie drove to the private clinic where King was recovering.
She had to present the incriminating recordings to King. The situation was too precarious. They
couldn’t be sure if ‘Q‘ was acting alone or if others were in cahoots, betraying King. She couldn’t trust
anyone else.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Natalie stepped out of her car and instantly spotted a group of men in
parking lot C eyeing her vehicle.
Her instincts screamed trouble. She paused, reached into her car, and pulled out a handgun. She
loaded it with practiced ease and skirted around to approach the men through a safer route.
As she backed away, gun raised and aimed at the men’s backs, she spotted
stepping out of a nearby car and whispering something to the group.
a familiar face
“We avoid a shootout if we can,” Reid murmured to his men, mindful of the civilians around them.
“Collateral damage is bad for business.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a faint rustle behind him caught his attention. Reid, known for his
sharp ears, spun around, hand inching towards his holstered gun.
As Natalie recognized the man, Reid’s gun was already pointing in her direction.
She gasped, instinctively shielding her face and rolling for cover, but Reid’s bullet whizzed past her
arm.
Reid watched a shadow dart into the building, and his group rushed to follow, only to find the safety
corridor empty.
“King, where are you?” Natalie whispered urgently after ditching her Truth Group jacket and mask in an
abandoned nurse’s station. She pulled out her phone and switched it on to contact. King.
“In my room. What’s going on?” King’s voice came through, tense with concern upon hearing Natalie’s
breathless tone.
“Don’t meet with ‘Q’I He’s the mole!” Natalie blurted out. “He set me up with some goons from Galactix
Space Tech in the underground lot!”
“Don’t worry,” King assured her. “Since the accident, Uriah has had a tail on ‘Q‘ and the others and
hasn’t leaked any details about my hospital stay.”
He paused and then asked in a lower voice, “Are you hurt?”
Before Natalie could answer, her phone’s anti–tracking alert flashed frantically, indicating someone was
trying to trace her call from nearby.
Natalie froze for a second before quickly slipping under a desk.
Right then, she saw Reid striding past, just a few steps away from her hiding spot. As he came.
closest, her phone subtly vibrated, an automatic warning she had set up. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
