When fate plays its hand

Chapter 857

Nelly froze, and her entire body trembled as she tried to hold herself together.

“You can accuse me of hurting Minnie or blame me for scheming to marry you, but you can’t question Sam’s identity. That’s not just an insult to me, but it’s a betrayal to our son.‘

Timothy raised an eyebrow. “So, you’re admitting that you set me up?”

Nelly didn’t even hesitate. “Yes. It was me who had a few friends help get you drunk. I even stripped down and climbed into your bed. I even pretended to be intoxicated and slept with

you.”

“You already knew that, right? Nothing happened between us that night!” she shouted as tears streamed down her face.

Timothy’s gaze turned cold, and his expression was unreadable. “So, when you told me you were pregnant shortly after… that was a lie too?”

Nelly smiled bitterly. “Would you have married me if I hadn’t said that?”

She could still remember that morning when she woke up to find him lying next to her. After a brief moment of shock, he quickly regained his composure. He double–checked to make sure nothing had happened the night before.

When Nelly confirmed it, Timothy dressed as if nothing had occurred and gave her a warning. “I don’t care if it happened or not, but you’d better keep this to yourself.”

There was no apology and no comforting words. He didn’t even offer the decency of treating her like an escort. At least they got paid. All he left her with was humiliation.

A month later, Nelly went to Aren and Fiona with her pregnancy test results. She cried as she begged them to take her side. Both of them were furious, but their anger was directed

at her.

Nelly didn’t understand. She was the one who had been wronged, so why was she being blamed? But in the end, the two still intervened.

Nelly didn’t know what was said between them. But the next day, Timothy agreed to marry

her.

“Do you know why I agreed to marry you?” Timothy smiled bitterly, and his gaze was laced

with sarcasm.

“…W–Wasn’t it because I told you I was pregnant?” she stammered.

“No. Your parents told me that if I didn’t marry you, I’d never have a chance with Min again. And I couldn’t accept that. I’ve spent all this time nurturing and protecting what I thought was mine–only for them to tell me we weren’t meant to be together.” 2 Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.

“No… I don’t want to hear this… Stop talking… won’t listen…” Nelly covered her ears and shook her head frantically.

Timothy grabbed her by the shoulder. “You need to hear this. Back then, I figured that instead of becoming a stranger to her, at least by marrying you, it would let me see her without anyone questioning it.”

“Ah! You’re insane! You’re crazy!” She lashed out at him.

At that time, Mindy had already disappeared. Whether she would ever come back was unclear, but the odds weren’t good.

Nelly couldn’t believe that Timothy hadn’t considered that possibility. He was terrified that when Mindy returned, their paths would never cross again. That was why he chose to marry Nelly–for this absurd reason.

“Timothy, you’re crazy…” She laughed hysterically.

He turned his head to avoid her touch. “That’s right. I’m insane. But now you know the real reason you’ve been in my life.”

“And as for Sam…” His lips curled into a smirk. “I’ll give you credit. You were smart enough to figure out that every male heir in the Cooper family has to store sperm in the family’s genetic bank once they come of age, just in case. And you had the nerve to use that to cover your lies. You went through with IVF.”

And somehow, Nelly actually managed to get pregnant.
