When fate plays its hand

Chapter 839

Chapter 0839

Fiona was startled as she had never seen Mindy so serious before. “Min, what’s going on?”

“Mom, Dad, let’s sit down and talk,” Mindy said. novelbin

The elderly couple followed ho

to the couch and sat down.

She added, “Lionel, Mimi, you two should listen too.”

They exchanged glances and obediently sat down.

Miranda asked, “Mom, what’s the matter?”

“I could recall most things from before. Even if there were gaps in my memory, I had been piecing them together bit by bit. However, I couldn’t recall how I went missing, no matter how hard I tried. I also don’t remember how I ended up in Lumberville and how I fell into the river… until yesterday.”

Yesterday? The night before Easter?

Aren’s expression grew tense. “What happened yesterday?”

Mindy spoke each word deliberately, “I finally remembered it all.”

“Who was it?”

“It’s Nelly.”

Mindy didn’t plan on withholding the truth, nor did she decide to be a saint and forgive Nelly. Her parents had searched for her for over 20 years. Mindy believed they had the right to know the whole truth.

However, she did hesitate. She barely slept last night.

Firstly, she was worried that her parents might not be able to handle the emotional and physical blow after learning the truth. What would she do if something bad happened to them?

Secondly, without solid evidence, others might not believe her even if she told them. Nonetheless, Mindy dismissed her concerns. She knew that her parents would stand by her even without proof.

Sure enough, Aren slammed on the coffee table, causing the tea cups on the table to clatter loudly. “How dare she do something like that? What has the Garrison family ever done to wrong her? How despicable!”

He was trembling with rage, his facial muscles twitching.

Meanwhile, Fiona was deathly silent after hearing the truth. However, Miranda clearly saw her hands trembling uncontrollably under her sleeves.

Gritting her teeth, she muttered, “I knew it… I just knew it! I suspected her from the start, but I didn’t have any evidence. If I had known earlier, I would have gone to great lengths and risked my own life to pry the truth from her mouth!”

Her voice cracked, nearly turning into sobs. Emotions of suppressed grief, sorrow, regret, and fury were jumbled up together in her mind

“Mom, don’t be like this…” Mindy patted Fiona’s back to help her breathe. “I’m back now, so it’s not worth it to get angry over her! She’s not worth it at all!”

Aren chimed in, “Don’t get worked up and take deep breaths! Don’t make Min regret sharing the truth with us.”

That final remark effectively calmed Fiona down.

He was right. Mindy must have struggled for a long time before deciding to tell them the truth. Fiona couldn’t imagine how devastated Mindy would be if she fell ill or suffered negatively after hearing this news.

She took a deep breath. “I’m… I’m fine. Min, don’t worry. Let’s all calm down, alright?”

Mindy nodded with red–rimmed eyes. “Yes, let’s all calm down.”

On the side, Lionel clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles cracked. “This… this could be considered an attempted murder!”

Miranda pursed her lips into a thin line. She hadn’t expected Nelly to be involved in her mother’s disappearance.

No, not merely involved. It could be said that Nelly was the mastermind behind Mindy’s disappearance of 20 years and the agony her grandparents endured.

With the Garrison family’s influence, they might have rescued Mindy successfully if they had received word in time.

Mindy wouldn’t have been lost for decades, nor would the elderly couple have suffered for

so many years.

Fiona turned to Aren. “I know you’ve always wondered why I deliberately kept my distance from Nelly all these years. Now you know why, right? I had no proof. I tried to find evidence, but I came up with nothing. However, I have a gut feeling, a mother’s intuition.”
