The Lost Female Alpha

Chapter 40

By the time Elijah arrived a few moments later everything was already returning to normal. Elijah ran into the room followed by his beta and a couple of his warriors. Maybe I should have been a little clearer over mindlink. He must have thought that a war had broken out to bring this many fighters.

He still looked delicious in his suit but now his tie and jacket were a little dishevelled. He paused briefly as his eyes combed over the canteen until they landed on me. He ran over to me, picking me up and spun me around while showering me with kisses. Despite how serious our situation was I couldn't hold back my giggles.

"I was so worried about you. I know you are strong but the thought of you getting in a fight without me there to protect you tears me up inside." He whispered in my ear, his breath against my neck.

"I promise I was never in any danger but I am worried that Helen might never forgive us." I replied, trying to distract myself from my own increasing arousal. I don't know what was happening to me, I couldn't seem to stop thinking about sex. Maybe I was going into heat or something.

'Don't try to blame me for this, it is all you.' Onyx told me, laughing at my expense. Elijah's erection pressed against me told me that he was just as turned on as I was and he didn't appreciate my distraction. He growled against my ear, sending vibrations across my skin.Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.

"We can pick this up again later." He promised, nibbling on my ear.

After what happened he decided to take me home with him. He didn't want me out of his sight. I got the impression that I was going to be in for some kind of punishment later for trying to deal with a potentially dangerous situation without him there to back me up.

He took me straight back to our house, hoping that we would get there before Helen. We weren't so lucky. She was already there when we arrived, I could hear her shouting inside the house as we pulled up in Elijah's car. Why did she always have to make such a big deal out of everything?

Elijah jumped out of the car the moment he put it into park. He ran around the car, not fast enough to help me out but fast enough to wrap his arms around my waist as I closed the door behind me. He led me into the entrance of our home which was now a scene of absolute chaos.

Helen was shouting at everyone around, begging them to take her back to her father's pack. There were suitcases littered all over the floor in no particular order. It looked as though she had packed in a hurry, some of the suitcases had items of clothing partially hanging out of them.

'How did she get here so fast?' I asked Elijah over mindlink. He shrugged his shoulders as he looked over the mess around us.

'I think she forced one of the omegas to lend her their car,' he replied. He was trying not to let his annoyance show on his face but he couldn't hide it from me. Helen had irritated him from the moment she arrived but now he was absolutely fuming. I could feel it through our bond and hear it in the tone of his voice over mindlink. "I'm really sorry about what happened today." Elijah said in a stiff, formal voice. Everyone else in the room slowly started edging their way towards the nearest exit. I didn't blame them but I did wish that I could go with them

"I didn't want any of this." Helen looked at us, I could see the tears forming in her eyes as she spoke. She didn't look like the same woman I had come to know over the last few days. Perhaps all of it was an act and we were now witnessing the real Helen.

"All I wanted was to make a life for myself. Open my own little bakery far away from my parents with a mate who loved me for who I was rather than my position in some pack." She sighed, leaning back against the bannister. She lowered herself slowly until she was sitting on the bottom stair of the staircase. Tears fell down her face freely and it didn't look as though she was even trying to stop them.

I didn't like seeing her so broken. I wasn't great at consoling people who were upset but I felt compelled to sit with her and make her feel better. Following my instincts I sat down beside her and put my arm around her shoulder. She leaned into me as she cried.

'Looks like your luna instincts are kicking in.' Elijah told me over mindlink.

"My father wouldn't let me have that. He took one look at my mate with his omega status and commanded him to reject me. Now he is insisting on finding me what he deems to be an appropriate mate." Helen continued. She leaned over, burying her face in her hands as her despair took over. I could see why she felt the need to hide behind a flamboyant persona. She didn't want anyone to see how vulnerable she really was, I suppose I did something similar for years. I didn't want to let anyone in because I was terrified of being betrayed just like my parents.

"Maybe there is something we can do to help you," Elijah suggested.

"Your mate initiated the rejection, not you so you will have a second chance mate out there somewhere. We could fake your engagement to Ryker and give you time to search for your mate." Helen squealed in excitement. She threw her arms around my neck and hugged me tightly causing Elijah to giggle. I bet my shocked face was incredibly amusing to him.

"There is a training session starting in a few hours. All the strongest fighters in the pack will be there, maybe one of them will be your mate." I suggested. She had her arms around me so tightly that it was difficult for me to even breathe. "Thank you, thank you so much." She squealed. She held onto me for a few seconds longer before grabbing one of her suitcases and running up the stairs. I am sure that I told her it would be hours before training was due to start, she can't possibly be going to get ready so early. Could she?

I watched her running up the stairs until I was pulled to my feet by Elijah. He pressed his lips against mine, kissing my passionately while letting out a low growl. He pulled away a few seconds later, leaving us both breathing heavily. "You have no idea how hot it is seeing you in luna mode." He growled while nibbling on my ear.

"Well we do have a few hours before we need to leave," I replied. Elijah growled before picking me up and throwing me over his shoulder. He gave my butt a firm squeeze before carrying me up to our room.
