Chapter 39
I felt uncomfortable being back at school after what had happened last time I was here. I spent the whole morning worrying that Arthur was going to spring out from around every corner. Knowing that there was someone as powerful as him made me feel more vulnerable than I had ever felt before, even in all my years on the run as a child.
I needed to find some way of making my powers stronger but that was easier said than done. I had no idea how my powers worked so I had to rely on the books my mom left for me and those books were not easy to get through. There was so much information in them and a lot of it didn't help me right now. What I really needed was some help with my research, that way I could get through the books much faster.
"Why do you look so miserable?" Charlotte asked me as she walked up behind me.
"I had a terrible weekend," I replied.
I was on my way to the canteen for lunch but socialising was the last thing on my mind. I just wanted to get this day over with so that I could go back home and see Elijah. If I wasn't so damn hungry then I would probably shift into my wolf form and go for a run to calm myself down and burn some time.
Elijah wouldn't like that, he wouldn't like me being alone with everything that was going on. He would probably punish me if he found out I did something so reckless. 'That's almost enough incentive to skip lunch,' Onyx purred.
"What was so bad about your weekend?" She asked. I took my seat in the canteen while I tried to think of a way to shut down the conversation. I would rather talk about algebra than spend another moment thinking about Helen.
"The better question would be, what wasn't bad about it?" Ryker replied. He sat down beside me at the table while Ava and Felix sat down opposite us. Charlotte looked over at Ryker sympathetically for a moment before getting up and moving to sit beside him. She turned her body towards him, resting her hand on his arm.
"Tell me what happened and I will try to make you feel better," she said, fluttering her eyelashes at him. Ava looked at me and rolled her eyes in frustration, knowing that her mate had been with Charlotte didn't help their relationship much. Felix had his arms wrapped around Ava tightly while he showered her with kisses.
"Get your hand off my future mate!" Helen screamed. She was standing in the entrance to the canteen wearing one of her designer dresses and high heeled stilettos. Her perfectly manicured nails were turning into claws as she stared dangerously as Charlotte.
Charlotte flicked her hair completely unaffected by Helen's grand entrance. She seemed to be completely oblivious to the danger that she was in. If she was paying attention then she might have noticed Helen's alpha status but she wasn't paying attention, she was too busy flirting with Ryker.
"From the way you said future mate I am guessing you are not his real mate. That means it is his choice," Charlotte purred. She made no attempt to remove herself from Ryker's arm which infuriated Helen. With a growl she ran across the canteen, her stilettos clicking as she ran across the wooden floor. She took hold of Charlotte's hair and pulled her to her feet. She pulled Charlotte around until they were facing each other, Charlotte's face was only inches away from Helen's. "You will keep your hands off what is mine!" Helen screamed before pushing Charlotte down to the floor. If Charlotte knew what was good for her she would have stayed down at that point but clearly she didn't. Charlotte got to her feet and launched herself at Helen, grabbing hold of her hair and slapping her repeatedly. Helen responded in kind causing the whole room to erupt into laughter and cheers.
'I can't believe this bitch is an alpha, she is giving the rest of us a bad name.' Onyx mumbled.

"Ok, I think that is quite enough of that." I said. I got to my feet and started to try breaking up the fight in front of me. I took hold of Charlotte while Ryker tried to help me by taking hold of Helen.
As soon as Helen realised that it was Ryker who was touching her she let go of Charlotte's hair and turned around to face him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face into his shoulder.
"She hurt me, you have to teach her a lesson." She didn't even remove her face from his shoulder as she spoke. Ryker's jaw tensed as he tried to hold himself back. He had been trying to keep this woman at arms length all weekend and now she had her arms around him. I could tell that he was only seconds away from completely losing his temper and telling her what he really thought of her.
"What are you even doing here?" He asked through gritted teeth as he tried in vain to push her away from him. Helen gripped him tighter and pretended to sob against his chest. Charlotte mumbled something under her breath while stomping out of the canteen. The only words I could make out from her rant were 'pathetic' and 'bitch'.This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
"I was bored so I thought I would come see you," Helen replied. She leaned back and fluttered her eyelashes as Ryker who seemed completely unaffected by her actions. I wondered if this innocent girl act she was trying to pull off had ever fooled anyone.
"If you get bored so easily then you should probably take up a hobby," Ryker replied in a flat matter of fact tone. Helen's eyes were wide with shock, she clearly wasn't used to being spoken to like that. She took a step backwards, away from Ryker and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
This wasn't good, this situation was escalating much too quickly and I wasn't sure how to stop it. I opened a mindlink to Elijah and quickly filled him in on the situation. He told me that he would be right here but I had a feeling that he would be much too late to stop this situation from blowing up in our faces.

"It's not very nice to talk to your girlfriend like that," Helen complained. Ryker laughed, sending a chill down my spine. It wasn't the laugh that he does when something amuses him, it was the laugh that he did just before brutally taking someone apart verbally.
I waved at him, trying desperately to catch his attention before he said something he would regret. As much as we all resented having to entertain Helen, she was still an alpha's daughter. Insulting her in the way that I knew he was about to, was going to land us in a whole heap of trouble.
“Let me get one thing straight, you are not my girlfriend and you never will be. Even if I wasn't in love with someone else I would never choose someone like you." Ryker growled.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Helen screamed, stomping her foot like a child having a tantrum. I quickly moved so that I was standing between Ryker and Helen. I took hold of his arm and started pulling him away but he pulled his arm out of my grasp and looked at me shaking his head.
"I have to tell her the truth, this can't go on any longer." Ryker said. He then walked around me, turning his attention towards Helen.
"You are annoying and stupid. You think that a pretty face is enough to make up for your complete lack of a personality. Well it doesn't, there may be some men who are willing to overlook all this but that will never be me." Ryker shouted. He waited for a moment for her to respond but Helen didn't say anything. She stood in the middle of the canteen with tears slowly filling her eyes.
Nobody knew what to say. I knew that it was probably a good idea to comfort her but I wasn't any good at this kind of thing. I glanced over at Ava but she looked as lost as I did. I could feel Elijah drawing near, hopefully he would know what to do.
I walked over to Helen and put my hand on her shoulder in what I hoped was a comforting manner. The sensation of my hand on her shoulder seemed to knock Helen out of her daze.
"My father is going to hear about this," she shouted. She threw her arms in the air as she let out a frustrated scream as she walked out of the canteen again.
