Chapter 1272
The crowd instinctively turned their heads towards the sound, and Tara furrowed her brows, lifting her gaze. Her expression suddenly froze, eyes widening in surprise. It was him...
A man and a woman strolled in side by side, their faces hidden behind golden phoenix masks that gave them an air of mystery and power. Their presence was commanding, like royalty stepping into the room, making hearts race and eyes avert. "Boss, Madam!" The Enforcement Division members, upon seeing them, dropped to one knee in respect, with Rory quickly following suit.
Madam... Tara's eyes fixated on their clasped hands, feeling as if a thousand tiny needles pricked her heart. He had truly returned to the Martial World, but with another woman in tow. Rumor had it she was from the Mortal World. How could someone so ordinary be worthy of him?
The crowd snapped back to reality, terror etched on their faces. Only one man could inspire such deference from the Enforcement Division-his return to the Martial World was no longer just a whisper. They knew better than to test a man so unpredictable.
"Quick, look down, stop staring!" Joey urged, pressing Jacob and Carly's heads down to make them less noticeable.
"Dad, it's fine, he's an old friend!" Jacob protested.
"You're asking for trouble!" Gerald smacked him on the back of the head.
"Keep your head down!"
Jacob and Carly exchanged a silent, resigned look. He really is an acquaintance, they thought, sighing.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
"Get them out of here." Flora, with one hand in Connor's, the other casually in her pocket, glanced at Kenneth and Sydney on the ground. Her voice was cold and slightly husky.
"Yes, ma'am." Rory nodded, signaling for Sydney and Kenneth to be removed.
"Wait!" Tara stepped forward, her eyes lingering on Flora, masking her jealousy with a forced smile. She'd waited for Connor for so long, and now this woman just waltzed in and took him away...
"Connor, do

remember me? It's
Tara." Her voice trembled slightly.
She recalled the time, years ago,
when Conhor had saved

her-descending like a hero with that same golden phoenix mask, walking straight into her heart.
Brother? Flora turned to Connor, her eyes full of challenging curiosity. Oh, the familiarity in that term...
Connor tensed. He didn't even remember where this woman came from.
"Connor, Sydney's a friend of mine. Could you please let me take her away? Throwing her out is too harsh," Tara pleaded softly, her eyes almost shimmering with emotion. Any other man might have melted.
Connor's gaze, however, turned icy. Any woman who upset Flora, anyone trying to come between them, was not welcome.
"Sister, what honor are you asking for? Where did you get any honor?" Flora laughed lightly. "Are you some kind of dove, always cooing 'brother, brother? And here I am, guarding my man. Are you that desperate for attention?"
Tara's face turned pale. She hadn't expected Flora to lash out so openly. Embarrassed, she thought Flora was being foolish, thinking such words would make Connor turn against her.
