Chapter 35 A Twist of Fate
“Dad, Mom, you have to save me, or else I’ll definitely be sent to jail.” Zane Stone panicked and grabbed Yolanda Steele.
Leo Stone looked at his son’s pathetic appearance and coldly asked, “What did you do again?”
The use of the word “again” was enough to show that this wasn’t his first time causing trouble.
“I-I was just practicing driving since I’m getting my license soon. I saw sister’s car there and thought I could learn by driving it. But then, I got into an accident…”
“What?!” Leo Stone almost died from anger. “Last time, you almost blinded someone with a barbecue skewer! It cost me money and apologies just to fix things up! And now only a few days later, you’re causing trouble again?! You haven’t even passed your driver’s test yet but dare to drive?! You must be tired of living!”
“Leo, don’t get angry. He’s your only son; we have to find a way to help him. He hasn’t even finished school yet; he can’t go to jail for sure. If he really goes to jail, what future does he have? The car is registered under Freya anyway…” Yolanda Steele tried her best to calm Leo down.
“Yolanda, don’t think too highly of yourself!” Elowen Noir had never been so assertive before; this was definitely the most resolute moment in her life. “Don’t blame my daughter for what your son did.”
Leo Stone was surprised by her sudden appearance and stuttered out, “Y-You’re cured?”
“Leo, we’ve been married for 26 years now, I’ve never asked anything from you because I couldn’t give birth to a son for you.” Elowen looked at her husband straight in the eyes as she spoke calmly but firmly, “You had another family outside our marriage but I didn’t say anything about it, either because our daughter became related with the Silverton family through that connection.” She paused briefly before continuing, “But if you dare frame my daughter for killing someone when she didn’t do it then we’ll fight until death.”
“What are you talking about? How could I possibly do that? We still don’t know what happened exactly right now. Zane was still young, he was frightened. He didn’t know what happened to the person who was hit. I will check it out. Don’t worry, I won’t let Freya take the blame.”
Leo Stone felt sorry for his son, but he didn’t want to fall out with Elowen and his daughter because of his son. After all, Freya was Elijah’s wife now–the mistress of the Silverton family.
He had nurtured Freya since childhood specifically for moments like these. He wouldn’t dig his own grave over something like this.
“You have a little bit of conscience, but you better follow through on your promises. And also, I want a divorce.” Elowen said as she walked up the stairs. As she passed by Yolanda Steele, she gave her a glance before settling her gaze on Leo Stone. “I’ll make room for you three so that you can be reunited as a family.”
Leo Stone wasn’t willing to comply and said firmly, “Who said I wanted to divorce you? I won’t do it! No way!”
“Do you think this is fun?” Elowen retorted.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s fun or not because what I say goes. Either way, I won’t get divorced!” he replied just as stubbornly.
Yolanda Steele was desperate; all she wanted was for Elowen Noir and Leo Stone to get divorced so that they could give their child legitimacy.
“We need some kind of legitimacy now that our child is older.” Yolanda Steele pleaded.
“What kind of legitimacy? All I need to know is that he’s my son! You should stop meddling in this situation and go check whether your son really did kill someone because if he did and gets caught since he’s an adult now, he’ll go straight to jail!” Leo Stone snapped viciously.
Zane Stone had made him angry with his actions.
“Look at how poorly you’ve raised your child! He only knows how to cause trouble, what else can he do?”
Elowen Noir added fuel to the fire by bringing up the issue of divorce at such an inopportune moment when Zane Stone had already caused enough trouble. Leo Stone was furious beyond words; his words were sharp-edged too.
Yolanda Steele was also angry; her son had brought shame upon her in front of Leo Stone. She glared fiercely at him before grabbing him by the arm and saying, “Let’s go! This isn’t our territory anymore, whatever happens next will be entirely up to yourself whether it’s prison or execution!”
She knew very well these were just empty threats meant only out of anger towards Zane’s behavior.
Leo glanced over at them before saying, “Enough with these useless arguments. Let’s hurry up and find out who got hit first. If things don’t work out well, we’ll take care of it ourselves since your son has potential.”
He finished speaking before heading upstairs, while Yolanda Steel remained fuming downstairs, knowing that they could only listen to Leo Stone.
“Come on tell me everything that happened down there.” Yolanda grabbed onto her son tightly.
“My Dad…” Zane Stone wanted to speak, but was interrupted by his mother.
“Stop ‘dad’ and deal with your own affairs, because of you, I can’t hold my head high in front of your dad!”
…
As soon as Leo reached upstairs, he saw Elowen packing her bags hastily preparing herself leaving. He walked over and pulled the clothes from her hand.
“We’ve been married for most of our lives, do you really think it’s necessary to get a divorce?”
Elowen sneered. “Or I’ll just wait for you to continue using me and ruining my daughter.”
“How have I ruined your daughter? How much money have I spent on her since she was a kid? How much has she learned? Don’t you know that?”
“Why did you let her learn those things? You know it yourself, Leo Stone. From when you used my illness to threaten Freya’s marriage, I gave up hope. Originally, I thought that your affairs outside were only because I couldn’t give birth to a son. But now, I finally understand that you don’t love me or Freya at all. We’re definitely getting divorced!”
Elowen pulled away from him and continued packing clothes into the suitcase.
Leo Stone calmed down slowly and explained, “I let her learn everything for her own good. Even if there is an ulterior motive behind it, is it wrong to want her to learn more? Your words are too unreasonable!”
Elowen didn’t argue with him anymore and said, “There’s no point in saying these things anymore; we’re getting divorced anyway.”
Leo Stone saw that she was determined so he got angry as well. He then threw her suitcase on the ground, causing all of its contents spilled out.
Elowen was scared but after a few seconds of being stunned by what happened she reacted by saying, “These things aren’t important anyway, they aren’t worth anything.”
She purposely provoked Leo Stone by saying, “Besides, my daughter is now Mrs Silverton, what else couldn’t I have?”
Elowen decided not take any of those belongings with her. As she walked downstairs, Leo grabbed her hand.
“What are you doing? Let’s talk if we have anything to say.” Leo stopped her.
Elowen broke away from his hand, “We have nothing to say, there is only one way, divorce.”
“There’s no way for you to get divorced. Just give up!” Leo Stone was determined not to divorce.
“I tell you, Elowen Noir, you are mine when you are born, and mine when you die, there is no way to divorce!”
Elowen glanced at him and did not continue to argue with him. She was going to divorce the marriage anyway, and if he was not willing to have a good discussion, then she would go find a lawyer, or at worst, file a lawsuit.
Anyway, he cheated first.
She strode downstairs and left the house. Thinking that Zane Stone drove her daughter’s car and hit someone, she wanted to tell her daughter so that she could deal with it earlier, so she called Freya.
It was a man who answered.
“Who are you? Where is my daughter?” Elowen held her breath, thinking, this couldn’t be Elijah, right?Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
