CHAPTER 38
Chapter 38 It was like We were Having an Affair
I ate the meal very unhappily.
When I got back home, I slept through the whole night in a daze, as if I were asleep, yet also as if I were awake.
The next day, I slept until noon before getting up.
I looked through the refrigerator and made a few dishes; after eating, I started to feel a bit more energetic.
The concert was in the evening, and it was still early. Instead of getting stuck in negative emotions, I decided to open my computer to prepare for work and then started browsing social media.
The official account of MS Group posted the message, and I couldn’t help but wake up.
As I was about to read it carefully, Elissa’s phone rang. “Sweetheart, are you okay?”
I didn’t want her to worry, so I said, “I’m doing fine.”
“Did Christopher go back?”
I said, “No, not yet.”
“Let’s not talk about him then,” Elissa said. “Have you heard that MS Group is planning a collaboration collection?”
“I just saw it.”
In the past, collaborations were typically agreements between brands, where they would sign a contract to formalize the partnership.
This t
time, MS Group’s Christmas collaboration collection was set to be a design competition.
Each brand had two slots for participants. The brand whose designer won would collaborate with the MS Group.
MS Group was a leader in the luxury brand industry.
When this news came out, all major brands would definitely actively seek this co–branding opportunity.
Elissa asked, “Do you want to participate?”
“Of course. This is a great opportunity.”
Collaborating with MS Group was a rare opportunity.
I said, “But there are many designers better than me; I probably can’t participate.”
Elissa smiled mischievously and said, “Isn’t Cecil the regional president of MS Group now? Why don’t you ask him for help?

I chuckled and said, “So what does that make Cecil and me? It’s not fair to others either.”
“Don’t think too much. Many people would consider using such methods. Do you think other brands wouldn’t contact Cecil privately? Would they think it’s unfair to you?”
“It’s their business, anyway; I don’t want it this way, I insisted.
Elissa said, “You’re stubborn. It’s just a project, not a formal design competition.”
“Since it’s under the guise of a competition, I’ll follow the rules. Besides, do you think Cecil would agree? He’s not the Type to show favoritism.”
“That’s true.”
Elissa thought about it and smiled. “But maybe he’d do it for you?”
“That’s not possible.” I denied it without thinking. Even though Cecil and I were close in college, three years had passed. How could he possibly help me now?
“Don’t worry, I may not even get the opportunity to participate in the competition.”
Evelyn was the director, and she had the final say on all matters related to F&A. There were only two positions available, and I may not have secured one of them.
Elissa scolded. “I almost forgot, there’s also a bad woman hindering you.”
I smiled. “Let’s see on Monday when we’re back at work.”
After hanging up the phone, I glanced at the still–silent front door of the house.
I was disappointed but not surprised.
With Evelyn around, it was perfectly normal for him to stand me up.
I guessed he had even forgotten that he offered to go to the concert with me.
I was working diligently when suddenly the phone rang.
I saw the caller ID, feeling a bit surprised, and paused for a moment before answering, “Hello.”
“Are you at home?”
He seemed to be in a very spacious place, his low voice tinged with fatigue.
I got up
and walked to the balcony, casually stretching my body, and asked, “Hmm, how about you? Are you still busy?”
Evelyn lost so much blood; how could he rest assured?
Im almost done with my work, he paused, then added, “The entrance tickets are on the entryway cabinet. Don’t forget to take them when you leave.”

Although it was expected, when he said it, I was still somewhat disappointed. “Aren’t you coming?”
“What are you thinking? Let’s meet at the entrance of the sports arena.”
He chuckled; his words cut off midway as a fragile yet crumbling question emerged. “Chris, who are you calling? Didn’t you promise me…
Her words suddenly stopped.
It wasn’t Christopher who stopped her, but the phone was disconnected.
Why did I feel like he and I were having an affair, and I was the mistress?
I gazed emptily at the dark phone screen, feeling a crushing bitterness in my heart as if invisible hands were suffocating it.
I couldn’t figure out what Christopher really wanted to do and what kind of situation he wanted to achieve.
He insisted on moving in with me, showing great care for me, and even going to work with me in a high–profile manner, letting everyone in the company know about my identity as if he cared a lot about me.
When I was about to change my mind, he left me aside and spent the night with Evelyn, eventually having a child with
her.
Christopher, what am I in your heart?”
As the question popped up in my mind, the phone screen lit up, displaying a WhatsApp notification.
Christopher: [If I’m not there before the show starts, go in first.]
I knew that he had chosen Evelyn again.
I stayed on the interface of the chat box, repeatedly reading that sentence, which made me feel particularly
heartbroken.
The taste of being abandoned, Christopher, made me experience it several times, each time very profound.
I kept looking and then started laughing again, laughing at how silly I was. Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
He hurt me so many times, but when he showed me kindness, I felt really happy again.
However, I didn’t blame myself either.
As Elissa said, one–third of my life was spent with him.
From having a crush on him to marrying him, I experienced all the emotions of liking someone.
I had loved him for eight years, but he still had no feelings for me.
I nestled in the recliner for a while, lost in thought, until it was almost time. Then I got up to put on some exquisite

makeup.
Then I entered the dressing room and selected a light brown satin spaghetti strap maxi dress.
After all, I was going to a concert by a singer that I had liked for many years, so I had to dress up beautifully for it.
Before leaving. I looked at myself in the mirror and was quite satisfied.
The long dress on me was not a slim fit style, but loose and casual, perfect for occasions like concerts.
1 casually swept back my flowing locks to reveal my slender neck. While my looks were not strikingly beautiful, they possessed a lasting charm. The light dimples added a touch of loveliness to me.
The maxi dress I wore wasn’t form–fitting, but loose and casual, perfect for a concert like this.
I put on a matching trench coat and walked out slowly.
When I arrived at the sports arena, the entrance was already bustling with activity. Despite the light rain falling from the sky, it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the fans. Their faces were decorated with various types of makeup for cheering, and they held hand banners and light boards.
In contrast, I didn’t look like a fan at all.
“You may enter now!” A girl about twenty years old saw me standing in a daze at the door and greeted me warmly.
I came to my senses and looked around again. “I…”
The person I was waiting for has yet to arrive.
