When fate plays its hand

Chapter 842

Chapter 0842

“So, you mean…” the first person trailed off.

“I’m thinking about Ms. Minnie’s daughter, the granddaughter of the Garrison family!” the man replied. “I heard she’s gorgeous, has a great figure, and the elders adore her. If she takes a liking to me, I’ll save myself more than ten years of hard work!”

“Dream on! That’s the Garrison family we’re talking about! You don’t even have an invitation to the banquet, so stop fantasizing about the impossible.”

“If I don’t stand a chance, then what about you?”

“Funny enough, I think I stand a chance.”

Calvin sipped the last of his red wine and placed the glass down, feeling satisfied. He glanced at the gilded invitation on the coffee table. “The Garrisons seem to have something interesting going on… Let’s see how this unfolds.”

The Campbells, the Johnsons, and the Grahams had all received invitations to the event. Calvin, Hansel, and Zach initially weren’t interested in attending.

However, rumors about the Garrison family had been spiraling out of control in the past few days. All sorts of wild stories circulated around.

Some said that Minnie had been sold to a remote village as a bride after getting abducted, only to be abandoned after giving birth to her daughter.

Others claimed that Minnie was as beautiful as a fairy and had given birth to an equally stunning daughter. Unfortunately, the daughter was a simpleton and mentally challenged.

The rumors grew more and more outrageous, yet not a single photo of them surfaced.

As the saying went, the unknown added to the allure.

Calvin couldn’t help but grow curious about the Garrisons. “If I’m not mistaken, the birthday banquet is tomorrow. Are you two going?”

Hansel said, “It depends.”

Zach answered, “I’m not sure.”

“Jeez, what’s with you two? Aren’t you interested in any fun these days? What are you, priests? Are you purging your desires?”

Zach shrugged with a smile. “I can’t help it. I’ve got a girlfriend now. I won’t join you two single men in your antics, especially you, Cal. Try to behave yourself for once.”

“Weren’t we going to play cards? Are we doing this or not?” Hansel urged Calvin

impatieritly.

He had no interest in anything unrelated to Miranda. Even if he attended Aren’s birthday banquet tomorrow, it would only be for formality’s sake in order to socialize around.

Calvin sat up immediately. “Let’s do it. What shall we bet?”

“You tell me,” Hansel said.

Before Calvin could come up with something, Zach suggested with a grin, “How about this? Whoever lost between you two has to ask the granddaughter of the Garrison family for her number at the banquet tomorrow?”

Calvin and Hansel exchanged a glance. Calvin raised an eyebrow and said, “I’m in. The question is whether Hans will play along or not.”

Hansel didn’t care and agreed carelessly,” Sure.”

The banquet was held the next day. The venue was teeming with the city’s elite and wealthy.

Miranda wore a strapless blue evening gown, with a cut–out design at the waist that accentuated her slender figure. novelbin

On the other hand, Mindy was dressed in a fitted long dress. Her hair was pinned up with an elegant hairpin at the back of her head, making her look elegant and dignified.

As for Lionel…

Fiona hadn’t forgotten about him. A week ago, she had invited a professional team of tailors to prepare a custom suit for Lionel.

At that moment, he exuded a scholarly and gentlemanly charm after being dressed in a tailored suit and elegant necktie. Standing beside Mindy, the couple looked exceptionally well–matched.

“Are all of you ready?” Aren and Fiona walked in to see their daughter, son–in–law, and granddaughter standing together. The three of them looked striking and exuded a refined elegance.

The elderly couple paused in their tracks, their hearts swelling with pride and a hint of bitterness. They had missed so much of their daughter’s life over the years…

Today, Mindy would be restored to her rightful place, along with her husband and daughter.
