Chapter 12 She Hates His Superiority
Chapter 12 She Hates His Superiority
Amber didn’t get much sleep that night. The following day, after eating breakfast and seeing Pearl onto
her school bus, she hailed a cab to Liam's office.
This time it went smoothly—no one stopped her. Instead, everyone looked at her with curiosity and Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
vague contempt. However, they dared not offend her but instead, watched her make her way to the
chairman's office.
The chairman’s assistant had already been informed by the receptionist of Amber‘s arrival. When he
saw Amber walking towards Liam's office, he didn't stop her but smiled and informed her, "Miss Amber,
the chairman is in a meeting. You can wait for him in the office first."
Amber walked into Liam's office, took a seat on the sofa, and waited. Her eyelids subconsciously grew
heavier as time passed.
She did not sleep well last night and had taken the bus early in the morning to travel from the South
Town to the North Town. She was drained, and it didn’t help that the sofa was so comfortable and soft
to touch. Her sleepiness came in waves.
In the end, she decided to take a short nap since Liam would not be finishing anytime soon anyway.
That was the last thought in Amber's head before she fell into a slumber.
When Liam walked into the office, he saw Amber curled up at a corner of the large, soft sofa like a calm
but shy cat.
Amber was wearing a light-grey sweater, and because of the position in which she was curled up, her
collar was slightly opened, revealing a small part of her silky skin. Her long hair caressed her cheeks,
showing off her elegant jawline. Her light pink lips were slightly curved, looking like they were waiting
for a kiss.
Liam stared at Amber for a few seconds. Unconsciously, he leaned down to...
All of a sudden, Amber opened her eyes when she felt Liam's breath on her face. Liam gasped slightly
and calmly took a step backward, pretending as if nothing had happened, and said, "It seems like my
sofa is pretty comfortable."
Amber immediately sat up straight. She bit her lips in frustration. How did she end up falling asleep in
Liam's office? It was so embarrassing!
"Where's my phone?" Because she felt insecure, Amber put on an act and spoke in an extraordinarily
cold voice.
Liam threw a glance at her and strode over to his desk. He pulled open the drawer and handed her a
cell phone, "Here it is."
Amber was dumbfounded when she saw the phone. It was an iPhone 5s!
This wasn’t her phone! She stared at the phone in Liam's hand for a moment but did not take it.
Instead, she slowly raised her head and looked at him curiously, "Liam Croft, this is not my phone. I
want my phone!"
Liam raised his eyebrows. "I accidentally broke your cell phone yesterday. So, I bought you a new one
as compensation."
“My cell phone is broken? Could my Nokia really break that easily?” Amber scoffed softly as she
thought. Tears gathered at the corners of her eyes as she said, "Mr. Croft, I don't need your sympathy
nor your pity. Please just return my old phone."
Liam's hand stopped mid-air as his gaze met Amber's. He held that gaze for a while before he replied,
"Okay then."
His tone was dry and cold, like a withered branch during winter.
Liam tossed the iPhone 5s into the trash can next to his desk, retrieved Amber's worn-out phone from
the drawer, and placed it at the edge of the desk.
"Thank you! Goodbye!" Amber picked up her phone and headed out right away. If she had stayed for a
few more minutes, she was afraid that she would burst into tears.
The most despicable thing in the world was none other than the fact that despite one being unbothered
by her poverty, some rich people still chose to shove their pity down that person's throat.
Who gave Liam the right to make this decision by himself? Just because she was poor and a nobody
didn't mean that he could act like a savior who would pull her out of her misery by giving her a new
phone!
It was true that she couldn't afford an iPhone 5s! Her old Nokia was indeed worn out! However, the last
thing she needed was his sympathy!
Furthermore, Liam’s act of throwing the iPhone into the trash can had deeply hurt her ego at once.
Liam's superiority complex was displayed to the fullest by that action alone!
She hated his superiority complex. Except for being poor, there was nothing wrong with her. What right
did he have to look down on her!
Standing in front of the mirror in the washroom, Amber fiercely wiped the tears off her face. One day,
she would come back as a strong and successful person who could compare with Liam. He would then
see her capability!
Poor Mr. Croft...
The iPhone really didn’t mean anything to him. He had just casually gifted it to Amber. He never
expected Amber's reaction to be so agitated...
A poor person’s ego was nothing to be played with.
Liam had just begun to have some feelings for Amber. The two of them had grown closer ever since.
But after this incident, their relationship was sure to be back to square one...What a tragedy.
