Upon arrival, she spotted Leah’s ride parked outside, with Leah just making her exit. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Clara!” Leah hollered at her with a warm welcome.
Clara gave an awkward chuckle before strolling over. “Sorry to drag you away from your hectic work schedule to hang out with me,” she apologized.
“Don’t sweat it!” Leah dismissed with a wave of her hand. “I honestly see you as my own sister! If you’re feeling low, it’s only right for me to be by your side. I haven’t forgotten that solid you did for me.”
Seeing Leah’s generosity and grace, Clara couldn’t help but question if she was being overly sensitive.
“Let’s head inside and chat,” Leah suggested, leading Clara into the café. She ordered Clara’s favorite coffee as soon as they sat down. “remember you like this one.”
“Thanks, it’s sweet of you to remember my favorite.”
“It’s just a habit from my work! I deal with many people, and if you can’t remember these small details, it’s hard to win them over, Leah admitted, sighing, “Making a buck these days is no walk in the park. All this running around I do, it’s just to keep the company afloat! You’re so lucky to have Emmett as your rock. I wish I could find my own rock soon.”
“You’re amazing. You’ll find someone for sure,” Clara reassured.
“Enough about me! What’s got you down in the dumps? Spill the beans.”
“Well, it’s not really a big deal, but Emmett’s mom doesn’t seem to like me that much. I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to get on her good side?”
Leah was taken aback. “You’re trying to win her over?”
“Exactly!” Clara confirmed, “Emmett and I are married with a kid, so splitting up is off the table. We just have to put up with each other. Between Emmett and me, it’s all good. It’s just my personality doesn’t seem to be her cup of tea. It’s been bothering me, and I’m at my wit’s end.”
“Ah… that’s the issue! Why not get her something she likes?”
“I’m not exactly sure what she’s into! But she seems to have a sweet tooth for pastries, always hitting up this, bakery.” Clara dropped this hint, glancing at Leah.
Leah paused briefly, then chuckled, “When it comes to pastries, you’re barking up the right tree! I know a place with killer pastries. Let’s get some for you. to take home to her. I’m sure she’ll be over the moon.”
Clara observed Leah’s reaction, which didn’t hint at any guilt.
Could it be that she was overthinking?
“Then give me the address of the place! I’ll swing by tonight and grab some.”
“Sure, I’ll send it to you right away,” Leah took a sip of her coffee. “I haven’t lived through it, but just hearing about your relationship with Emmett’s mother sounds like a minefield! You definitely need to tread it carefully! One wrong move could spark a family feud! If your husband’s understanding and caring, that’s one thing. But if he’s overly devoted to his parents and neglects his wife… then the wife always ends up getting the short end of the stick!”
Clara nodded in agreement. “True! But I’m lucky; Emmett’s always been supportive and knows how to smooth things over at home. I don’t know what did to deserve such a perfect husband!”
