Two Times the Charm

Chapter 255

Chapter 255

Clara took a deep breath, not knowing how to react other than to give a bitter smile.

After a while, Emmett’s car pulled up.

As soon as he saw Clara and his mother, he got out of the car and quickly strode over to Clara. NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.

“You’re not criticizing my wife again, are you?” he asked.

Sophia looked at her son and avoided his gaze. “No. Ask her if you don’t believe me.”

“She didn’t criticize me; we were just chatting!” Clara quickly responded. “She saw the news and knew I designed the new project, so she was discussing it with me.”

Emmett was well aware of his mother’s character, and he knew Clara well.

He put his arm around Clara and smiled. “Really? I’m relieved to see you two getting along. Otherwise… I was actually considering moving out with you and the kids. I was worried you might not be comfortable with it.”

Clara felt a warm feeling in her heart as she looked at him. She knew what Emmett meant.

Sophia scoffed and left.

Watching her disappear from sight, Clara felt helpless. “You really shouldn’t have said that. Your mom has a strong sense of pride. Isn’t that like a threat to her?”

“If she didn’t pick on you, I wouldn’t have said that.” Emmett naturally took her hand. “Both you and my mother are important women in my life. If you mistreat her, I won’t stand by. The same goes if she mistreats you. If we can’t keep things balanced, it means we’re not suited to live together.”

“Let’s not move out yet. At least now we have the grandparents to look after Aiden and Alex, and you can be more at ease.”

Clara also desired to move out, seeking to escape Sophia’s oppressive behavior.

But she was busy with work. Moving out with Aiden and Alex was like leaving them in the care of a nanny.

She would miss them too much if she and Emmett moved out without Aiden and Alex.

After weighing the options, Clara decided to endure it! Having Emmett’s parents look after her children made her feel more at ease, and she could focus more on her work.

Besides, moving out would only make family relations worse, not change anything.

She didn’t want that.

“You’re always willing to compromise.”

“Why would I stir things up if I can compromise?” Clara playfully smacked his arm. “You’ve had a long day; stop worrying about me! Go take a shower and get some rest.”

Emmett chuckled. “I haven’t finished my workout for thé day.”

You’re not letting me off the hook, are you!”

“I neither plan to nor can I let you off the hook!” Emmett shrugged. “You’re in demand! I need to wear you out so you won’t have the energy to deal with other men!”

Clara was speechless.

“Your words make me feel like I’m involved with many men at the same time…”

“I can’t help it! You’re too attractive; everyone wants to get close to you. So, I need to claim you as soon as possible; that way, they can’t snatch you away.

Clara gave him a side glance, then rolled her eyes at him. “You’re just making up excuses! No matter what, you always think you’re right!” “As long as you understand, that’s all that matters!”
