Chapter 18
Chapter 18:
? ? ? ? ?
Caden saw through Alice's little game. “Fooling them, are we?”
Alice looked at him and asked, "What else should I be doing?"Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Caden chuckled at that. “Platonic marriages must be really interesting.”
Alice pressed her lips together in frustration.
Just then, Caden's phone range.
I have touched the screen and put it on speakerphone.
On the other end of the line, Lilliana asked, "Mr. Ward, why were you at the café with Alicia earlier?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Out of curiosity, were you two talking about business?"
Before Caden could respond, Alicia stood up and walked over to him.
Caden's eyes followed her movements. He was caught off guard when she straddled his lap without hesitation. His eyebrows furrowed as he asked, “What do you think you’re doing?”
Alice remained silent and put her arms around her neck.
Up close, Caden's sharp, handsome features filled her vision. His chiseled face was flawless from any angle. He was even more striking than she had imagined. It was as if his appearance had been sculpted by the gods themselves. Driven by anger, Alicia placed a hand on her face and leaned in slowly, seeking out her lips.
Caden turned his head to the side. “What are you trying to do?”
Alice squeezed harder, refusing to give him a chance to dodge.
She knew it was reckless and that she was hurting herself as much as him, but she didn't stop. This opportunity was too tempting to pass up, considering Caden was Joshua's nemesis.
Alice leaned closer and whispered in her ear, "Didn't you say I was too shy to express myself? Let's be more direct, then."
Caden's eyes darkened. “And what exactly do you have in mind?”
A sly smile appeared on Alice's face. "Can you moan?"
Caden's gaze dropped to her lips, fixing on them. “And who exactly is supposed to moan?” he asked, leaning into her with heated passion.
Alice knew she might be going too far, but she didn't back down. "You."
Caden let out a quiet laugh, amused by her boldness.
Just then, Lilliana interrupted from the other end of the line. “Mr. Ward..."
"Mr. Ward? Are you still there?"
Caden looked straight into Alicia's eyes, holding her waist tightly. Alicia shifted her body slightly, making room for him, as if she appreciated the closeness.
His voice sounded hoarse, although he didn't mean to. "Are you serious?"
As he spoke, he lifted his face just enough to brush his nose against her cheek. The cold touch sent shivers down her spine.
Alice's eyelashes fluttered and her anxiety began to rise. She swallowed and, gathering her courage, kissed him. "Keep up the good work and I'll pay you for your trouble."
A dangerous light flashed in Caden's eyes. The intensity of his gaze drew Alicia in.
With each passing moment, Alice felt a growing passion. Her body responded to his presence as she kissed him wildly, licking and biting his lips with reckless abandon.
Caden applied pressure, guiding her legs around his waist as he gripped the back of her neck. He opened his mouth, taking control, and showed her what a real kiss felt like.
Overwhelmed by the intensity, Alice let out a soft moan.
Caden laughed at her reaction. “Looks like you already know how to moan.”
The heat between them became unbearable for Alice. She didn't want to continue any longer, and struggled to get away.
Caden released her without resistance. The moment he let go, the tension between them evaporated as if it had never existed.
“The call ended a while ago,” Caden said. “Too bad I didn't hear anything,” he added. Joshua had, in fact, missed the whole thing. He had already parked the car and took a moment to compose himself.
The silence in the car stretched on. Finally, Lilliana spoke.
"I can't believe it. What would Caden want with Alicia? She's too boring to be fun to mess with."
Joshua's expression darkened as his words sank in. He reached for a cigarette without answering.
Lilliana glared at him and growled, “Are you serious? I'm pregnant. You can’t smoke in here.”
Joshua pretended he didn't hear her and lit the cigarette.
So Lilliana angrily reached out to snatch it away.
Joshua turned to her and growled, “Shut your mouth!”
Lilliana froze, shocked by his sharp tone. She became angry and her eyes filled with tears. “Joshua, you scoundrel. How dare you speak to me like that?”
Suddenly, she let out a cry of pain, a sharp pain running through her abdomen as her emotions overwhelmed her. Her face lost its color.
"Joshua... the baby..."
Joshua stopped dead in his tracks. Realizing what had happened, he quickly pulled himself together. Without another word, I rushed her to the hospital.
In the other car, silence hung in the air.
After the kiss, Alicia felt awkward, unsure of where to look. She grabbed her phone and quickly wired money to Caden. “We didn't quite get what we set out to do, but thanks for playing along. “I’ll pay you the standard rate for your time.”
Caden sat back and looked at her. “Standard fare, huh? Are you that familiar with this kind of thing?”
Alice dodged the question. “Just take the money. There’s no need for unnecessary courtesies.”
Caden looked at the amount: one hundred dollars.
How generous.
For someone worth billions, being paid a hundred for his time seemed ridiculous. But he took the money.
"Don't forget to call me next time you need something like that," he said.
This time, Alice was speechless.
Caden's gaze remained fixed on her. “Did you and Joshua avoid kissing when you were together?”
Alice felt the sting of her question, but kept her expression firm. “We kissed every day. “Three times a day, without missing a beat.”
Caden let out a chuckle. “Really? Because your technique is terrible.”
Alicia remained calm, although her comment stung. “We've been fighting a lot, and we haven't kissed in a while. “I just don’t have enough practice.”
“Oh yeah?” Caden laughed harder, clearly entertained.
Alicia held back her frustration, refusing to let his words bother her any further.
"We're even. You're not exactly a kissing expert either."
Caden did not dispute that comment.
Not long after, he received a call from Lilliana's agent. The agent informed him that Lilliana had had a minor problem at the hospital and would need a few days to recover.
Without showing any concern, Caden replied, “For late endorsements, follow the contract. Process the compensation accordingly.”
The agent hesitated, clearly surprised by the lack of sympathy.
Dealing with ruthless businessmen meant that no compassion could be expected from them.
