CHAPTER 45
Felix’s POV
Before storming out of the precinct in a fit of rage, I caught sight of Judith and Nathan entwined in a passionate embrace. The unexpected reunion between them left me flabbergasted, rendering me crippled and unable to defend myself.
The lawyer I had hired proved to be utterly useless. He was just seated there silently, paralysed with fear. My carefully crafted counterarguments vanished from my mind, leaving me clueless as to what to say.
Upon arriving home, I unleashed my fury by smashing the television on the floor, where it shattered. The fiery rage within me surged uncontrollably. My hands trembled as I clenched them into fists, pounding them against the wall. My heart thudded violently in my chest, each beat echoing like a war drum in my ears. Beads of sweat trickled down my temple, yet I felt no heat, only a burning fire of rage searing through my veins.
“How could they? How could they?” I hissed, my voice loud and dangerous, fully laced with venom. I paced the living room, constantly running my fingers through my hair. My hair, which was normally neatly styled, was now a complete mess.
“How could Judith be so stupid?” I roared angrily. She had defended him, even going as far as fabricating a lie.
Desperate to vent my pent-up emotions, I roared again, almost on the brink of tears. A fresh set of feelings of anguish and frustration crept in. Any affection or semblance of love I once felt for Judith had vanished, replaced by an all-consuming desire for revenge. I vowed to ensure they suffered far more than I had.
I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself to find the calm centre buried beneath the storm. But the anguish, the righteous fury, and the frustration still lingered just below the surface, a constant reminder of the injustice I could never forget.
Finally, I collapsed on the bare floor, isolated in my mind. A beep on my phone snapped me back to reality, and I checked the caller ID; it was John.
“Oh John. He must have heard of the embarrassing defeat I encountered at the precinct today.” I growled, distorted by the depth of my anger.
I stood up, my chest heaving, the echoes of my anger still vibrating in the room. I couldn’t get the courage to pick. I know John, and I could envision the disappointment and anger he would unleash on me.Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.
The plans we had devised were perfect, and anyone will be shocked that they fell through so disastrously. I finally answered on the second ring.
Barely had the phone touched my ear when John thundered, “How could you fail? Meet me at Le Chat Noir.”
“I don’t know the place,” I retorted angrily, although my rage was directed at myself. I was furious at my failure and the ensuing humiliation.
“It’s behind the state stadium. Be there in ten minutes,” he commanded, hanging up abruptly.
Now aware of my surroundings, I noticed shattered furniture and broken glasses littered everywhere. I carefully walked past the mess and ventured into the bathroom to hurriedly take a shower, dressed up, and dashed out to my car.
He ignored my gesture; his glare was murderous. “Are you okay, Felix? How could you fail with everything I set up for you?” He shouted, slamming his fist on the table.
Once there, I called John, who directed me inside. As I approached him, I could see his gaze locked onto mine with a ferocity that made my blood run cold. His usually cheerful blue eyes were now dark and hard, burning with an intensity that spoke volumes. His stare was unblinking, as if he were drilling holes into my very soul, searching for the right spot to unleash his wrath. I could feel the heat of his anger emanating from him in waves, almost tangible in the tense air between us.
Drawing closer, I observed the absence of drinks or smoke on his table, which was very unusual. “Hey, man. How are you doing?” I greeted him, extending my hand for a handshake.
He ignored my gesture and gave me a murderous glare. “Are you okay, Felix? How come you still fail despite everything I have set up for you?” he shouted, slamming his fist on the table, his eyes blazing with fury.
“I’m really sorry, John. He was aided by your father and Judith. He had competent lawyers, and even the police, including the chief, accorded him so much respect. You didn’t tell me your father had so much influence and affluence. I was surprised by how everything turned drastically,” I explained, my tone contrite.
Unconvinced by my explanation, he sneered at me in irritation, “Didn’t I warn you to be very careful and smart? After all, you’ve always been a weak man.”
I feel heat and anger rush to my body. His demeaning words were too humiliating to bear. I furiously stood up and grabbed him by the collar. “How dare you call me weak?” I demanded, seething with fury. I was tempted to hit him but hesitated, as I wasn’t ready to let go of our partnership. He’s the only ally I’ve got in London.
Speechless and overpowered, I eventually released him and sat down. He remained unbothered by my outburst. “I’m sorry about the whole issue, John. I underestimated him, and that was why I failed. I will be more prepared in the future,” I apologised again.
“Let’s meet some other time. You are so pathetic and damn annoying that I can’t even talk to you calmly now.”
With those spat-out words, he walked out of the bar, leaving me in a more devastating state. “The two brothers have finally made me feel like a complete loser,” I muttered as I ordered some drinks, ready to drench my sorrows away.
