The Indifferent Ex-Husband Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate

Chapter 563

Marian had driven herself to the hospital, not to visit anyone or to seek medical treatment for real. She just needed a doctor's note to back up her sick leave, proof that she wasn't just skiving off work.

Her fear of Brandon didn't allow her to be careless.

But Augus was clearly not the same.

He was just there to find her, and somehow dragged to the hospital with her.

Now he was loitering outside the emergency room, didn't rush inside; instead, he waited for her right at the entrance.

Marian was concerned about him knowing "where Sophia is," but she dared not ask directly-fearing that there was a trap for her.

After the initial shock of potentially knowing Sophia's whereabouts, she calmed down completely. Sophia hadn't pushed Sophia. So regardless of whether Augus truly knew where Sophia was, whether Sophia was dead or alive, injured or disabled, it had nothing to do with her.

She needn't worry about Sophia coming back alive to accuse her of anything.

She had nothing to do with this matter.

Marian brainwashed herself into thinking that, even feeling a slight relief that Sophia's return might diminish Brandon's intent to kill her.

She was adept at convincing herself and aligning her thoughts logically.

Compared to Brandon wanting her dead, the details of whether Sophia was dead or not seemed trivial.

Her biggest mistake was underestimating Sophia's place in Brandon's heart and Brandon's intelligence and acuteness.

During the brief walk from the parking lot to the ER, Marian successfully convinced herself, no longer feeling hurried. Therefore, upon seeing Augus waiting for her at the ER entrance, she simply gave him a cool glance and breezed past him to the nurse's station to register for an emergency consult with internal medicine, as if she was really there for a check-up.

Her change of tack made Augus frown.

Marian's every move was beyond his expectations.

Her firm denials almost made him wonder if he had wrongly accused her, including her denial of knowing her father Dennis's plan;; everything led him to question if recent pressures had caused him to hallucinate.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.

Seeing Augus frowning at her, Marian even asked him with concern, "Didn't you say you were feeling unwell?"

She played her part perfectly, not giving anything away.

Augus gave her a silent glance, but her words reminded him; he silently registered for his own ER visit, complaining of dizziness and sleep issues. Both were seeking internal medicine.

Marian didn't bother with him anymore.

The ER wasn't busy during the day, and it didn't take long for Marian to attend.

She genuinely experienced a gastrointestinal stress reaction, and the doctor prescribed medication for her.

When Marian received her diagnosis and medication, she took a photo and shared it in the work group chat, tagging Don with a message, "Mr. Dempsey, I have a stomach, I want half a day off today."

Don's response was short: "Rest up."

Marian replied, "Will do, thank you, Mr. Dempsey," then powered off her phone and turned to Augus, who still seemed to want to follow her, "I'm really not feeling well; I need to go back now. After you see the doctor, take a cab back by yourself."

She acted like they just bumped into each other, not leaving any possibility for Augus to find fault with her.

Seeing Marian acting this way, Augus was fuming but helpless against her airtight defense.

"I want to talk to you," Augus was left with no choice but to soften up.

Marian merely looked at him in surprise, "Talk about what?"

As the doctor called his number, she said to him, "go ahead, I'll wait for you outside."

Augus had no choice but to enter the consultation room.

Almost the moment he stepped in the room, Marian's innocent expression faded, and she turned to head toward her car parked at the entrance.

It was a few minutes later that Augus discovered Marian had left.

She even sent him a voice message to cover her tracks, “I've got something urgent at home. I need to go back first, so I can't give you a lift. Take care of yourself after seeing the doctor, get a cab back yourself, and take care to rest."

Without waiting for the doctor to finish, Augus apologized and dashed out.

Just as Marian started her car, she saw Augus rushing towards her. She gave him an apologetic wave and said a quick "goodbye" before driving off. Augus was ticked off. He tried to kick her car, but only hit the air.

He watched Marian's car almost disappear from view before he jumped into the nearest taxi.

"Follow that car," Augus ordered with a grim face.

The taxi driver hesitated, noticing his unfriendly demeanor.

"My girlfriend is upset, I need to hurry and soothe her, lest she thinks I don't care about her," Augus softened his tone, as if understanding the driver's hesitance.

Assured, the taxi driver started the car and chased after.

Marian didn't notice Augus's following her. She sighed with relief, but the thought of Sophia's possible whereabouts again raised her anxiety, leaving her with an unsettling feeling.

She didn't know if Augus had talked to her father, Dennis.

Leaving the company, she originally intended to find Dennis. Spooked by Brandon's death glare, she was irrationally panic, not knowing if he had found something on Dennis or on her, thus she urgently needed to check in with Dennis about recent events.

In these days, to distance herself from Dennis, she hadn't even dared to visit him.

But now that she was "sick" and abandoned by the Frost family, with nowhere to go, seeking comfort from her father in her vulnerable state was the most natural thing to do.

Dennis had also been laying low in a hotel these past few days, frightened to venture out and wary of catching Brandon's attention.

This affair was intended to land Brandon in trouble. Thus, he didn't handle things carefully; it's too easy to trace it back to him.

But there had been no reaction from Brandon's side so far.

He had no idea what was going on with Brandon, and ever since Marian asked him not to contact her casually that day, he even feared to call Marian to ask about the

He's been on pins and needles at the hotel for a few days, hoping to hear from Marian and Brandon, but no dice. Instead, he received a message that Jerry was coming to see him.

"What?"

Dennis jumped to his feet, totally shocked. "Why would he come looking for me for no reason?"
