It was suffocating
Anthony called Iris in his office in the morning and asked her if she was facing trouble in the work.
“No,” Iris replied while keeping her head low.
“His Royal Highness sees you as his special person. Try not to get into nobility’s eyes,” Anthony told Iris.
“Yes,” Iris replied in a low voice.
“About your family, they have been looking for you,” Anthony informed Iris, who lifted her head to gaze at him. “I got the orders from the Crown Prince to resolve this matter. Since you are an adult, they do not have any right to keep you. However, the inspector from your city has asked if you could go there.”
“May I know why I need to go there?” Iris inquired.
“To give the answer to the inspector. Your parents cannot be called here, so you need to go there and tell them you no longer wish to live with them,” Anthony asserted.
Iris furrowed her brows together. “But His Grace has said in the morning that I did not have to see my family,” she asserted.
“Indeed. The Crown Prince has said that you did not have to see them, but your father has a good position in the government,” Anthony explained to her.
“Father has a good position in the government?” Iris was astonished to hear about it.
“Don’t you know?” Anthony asked her in bewilderment.
Iris lowered her eyes and shook her head. Anthony pitied her and recalled the day she came to the palace. She still looked better now since Adolphus had taken special care of her.
“Iris, why don’t you just go with me and tell your father that you don’t want to stay in his house? Since you are an adult, I suppose that would not be a problem,” Anthony suggested to her. He knew that Adolphus had given strict instructions not to do it, but he didn’t want the royal family to find out that the Crown Prince was protecting a human.
Iris was still a bit hesitant about it. She didn’t want to face her father. He was a scary person. What if he dragged her to the house?Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Anthony stood up and closed the file. He put the fountain pen in his pocket and asked Iris to follow him.
“Do we have to go outside the palace?” Iris inquired.
“Yes.” Anthony walked ahead while Iris silently followed him.
A carriage was already ready for them. Anthony gestured to Iris to get in first, who quickly complied with it. After she entered the carriage, Anthony stepped inside. The coachman closed the door of the carriage and then drove to the state inspector’s office.
Iris kept her head down. Her heart was thundering against her chest because of the fear of her father. Numerous wrong thoughts came into her head and she kept fidgeting with her fingers in nervousness.
After an hour, they arrived at the state inspector’s office.
Anthony got down the carriage first, followed by Iris. She looked at the board and then walked inside with Anthony. Guards, soldiers, official inspectors, she saw many of them.
Everyone knew Anthony there and greeted him formally before looking at Iris for a brief moment.
“Good afternoon, Sir Anthony. Please this way,” a young soldier in his early twenties said and took them to the second floor. They entered the chief’s room where Iris saw her father.
“Iris! My child!” Lucas, her father, approached her when she took backward steps.
Anthony stopped him as he found Iris was scared. “Mr. Vinsant, Miss Iris no longer wants to stay with her family. She wants to work in the palace and has come to give the statement regarding this,” Anthony asserted and looked at Iris.
“Sir Anthony is right,” Iris said and looked at the Chief.
“I do not wish to live with my family. I ran from my house because it was suffocating there,” Iris affirmed.
“Iris, how could you say this?” Lucas got a little angry and gazed at the Chief, Xander Ares. “Iris is a sick child. I keep her in the house for a reason. Also, the Vinsant family has a name in society. What will people say if they find out the Vinsant’s family daughter is a servant in the palace? I request Chief Xander not to listen to Iris. She is still young and isn’t in the right mind to take decisions for her life.”
Iris could not believe that her father portrayed her as a person with mental illness. Also, why was he suddenly showing care toward her? He never even considered her as his daughter.
Anthony intervened and said, “Mr. Vinsant, that is not possible anymore. Miss Iris is liable to work at the palace because it’s her will. Also, she works in the Crown Prince’s manor.”
Anthony got no way except involving the Crown Prince’s name in the end.
“Chief Xander knows well how the Crown Prince works. Please tell Mr. Vinsant not to create a scene for no reason,” Anthony pronounced.
“Mr. Vinsant, Miss Iris left on her own will. You cannot force Miss Iris anymore. As Sir Anthony said, if you want to speak further on this, then you’ve to see the Crown Prince,” Xander asserted.
Adolphus’ name was enough to shut Lucas’s mouth. But he decided to talk to Adolphus once. He asked Anthony about it.
“The Crown Prince will be available tomorrow,” Anthony replied. “Come at sharp ten o’clock,” he added.
“Sure. I will come to take my daughter back,” Lucas stated.
Xander asked Iris to put her thumb impression on the file. After she was done, he told her she could leave. Iris gazed at her father for a brief moment, who had a menacing look on his face.
She quickly averted her gaze from Lucas and left with Anthony for the palace. As she entered the carriage, she felt relieved. Now, her father or her family could not come after her. Adolphus was there to protect her, so she didn’t have to fear anything.
