“Get out!” Anders yelled. Standing in the opposite direction to the woman who was still sitting on his desk. He knew she had come to his office for a reason, but he didn’t think it was this.
“She’s really the reason, isn’t she?” Vera’s tone broke toward the end. “What is it she has that I don’t?”
That question not only was it the most disgusting thing he’s ever heard.
“Do you want to leave quietly, or do you want to be thrown out?” He was quickly losing his patience. He had stopped his trope of bodyguards from accompanying him to work, but for the sake of people like Vera, he was ready to reinstall them.
Panic flashed across her eyes. She knew Anders’ threats were never mere threats. If he said he’d throw her out, then he most certainly will. That’d ruin her plans.
“I’ll leave, Mr Rodriguez, but don’t expect this to be the last of me. Whatever you plan to have with her won’t last, I’ll make sure of it.” She flashed him a mischievous smile, then with head held high, she turned around and strolled out. His current interest’s office was just inches away, she slowed down when she neared it. The office was made of transparent glass walls, one could see the inside from the outside. Veil was working on her computer when she felt like she was being watched. She lifted her eyes and the vicious glare from Vera Parker almost gave her a heart attack.
She watched the woman withdraw her gaze with one last mischievous glance her way before sauntering out of sight, her heels clattering the entire hallway as she did.

An alarm went off in Anders’ office. He grabbed his phone from his desk, and the words, ‘FUNDRAISER EVENT’ flashed on his screen. It was today, he had almost forgotten the event he had promised someone that he’d attend.
He swiped across the screen and dialed a number. The phone was answered at the second beep and a man’s voice came from the other end.
“Hello, Mr Rodriguez…”
“Prepare an exquisite dress. Size: 12, height: 5ft 3 inches, weight: 170 pounds.”
“Yes, Mr Rodriguez.” The person from the other end replied. Anders hung up and continued working.
A knock came on his door and he answered with a curt ‘come in.’ The cluttering of heels as the door opened made him look up. He watched Veil walk in and put down a file on his desk, the same desk where Vera Parker had been sprawled earlier. Her face showed no emotions, anger, disgust, nothing. Wasn’t she jealous? Did she really have a boyfriend? His expression darkened at that thought. Or, was she only pretending not to care? Thinking of the man he had seen her with the other night, he felt disgusted and annoyed.
“Do…” A knock on the door interrupted him.
“Come in!” His tone, cold and murderous rang out, sending a chill down Veil’s body. The door opened and a man walked in.
“Mr. Rodriguez…” He said, putting down a paper bag on his desk. “I got the item.”
Anders nodded at him, “You may leave.”
The man bowed, turned, and left.
His past annoyance forgotten, Anders pushed the paper bag toward Veil. “We have an event tonight, wear this.”
Veil picked the bag up, and her brows formed a frown. She had her own clothes, he didn’t need to buy her one.
“You can sign out now, and go home early to prepare. Don’t embarrass me, someone will come pick you up at six.”
Veil stole a peek at her wristwatch. It was still 3:00 PM. She nodded, turned, and walked away. She cleared her desk once she got to her office, picked up her bag, and stepped out. She hit someone on her way to the elevator, and almost fell butt flat to the ground, but unfamiliar hands, caught her by the waist, just in time…
“Are you okay, Ms Hart?” Simon’s voice was laced with concern as he steadied her. Veil nodded and took a step back. Simon unwound his arms around her.
“I’m fine, thank you for the catch, I was in a hurry and didn’t see you approaching.”
Simon gave a hand gesture of waving off her apology. Then his eyes fell on her bag. “You’re leaving?”
“Uh, yes.” Veil smiled. “My lucky day, isn’t it? I have to attend an event with Mr Rodriguez, so I have to prepare early.” Glancing at her watch, she realized it was passed 3:00 already. She had less than three hours to get home, catch a few winks of sleep, and then prepare for the event she had no idea of. “Speaking of that, I have to go right now, thanks for not letting me break a bone.” She grinned before hurrying out.
Simon waved at her, but she had already disappeared into the elevator. He stood there for a minute. He had been on his way to ask her out to lunch, but she was already booked.
Veil took a cab to her apartment. As soon as the door opened, she breathed in the fresh scent of home. It was stress relieving. She kicked out of her shoes and started undressing from the entrance. She entered the kitchen first and fixed something to eat before taking a bath and falling asleep naked on her bed.
Back at KINGSTON GROUPS, Orleans entered the building straight to the receptionist’s desk.
“Hello Ms.” He flashed the woman his charming bright smile. “Where’s Veil Hart’s office?”
“It’s upstairs on the 16th floor, but she’s not on seat.”
‘She just clocked out a few minutes ago…’ the receptionist’s words replayed in his mind as he drove back to his office. He stole a glance at the paper bag he had prepared which had a dress he had specifically tailored for her. He had planned to ask her out to the dinner event tonight. But it seemed he was too late, just as always. He grabbed the bag and tossed it to the back seat. Then he stepped on the gas speeding to his office.
