The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

MISTAKE 27

Chapter 27: Good acting

“Lena’s parents are here,” he whispered and she noticed them. Lena’s parents, both dressed in black, approached them with smiles plastered on their faces. For some reason, their choice of black annoyed Anya. She wondered if they thought they were coming for a funeral.

‘Anya, Daniel, you both look wonderful,” Lena’s mother exclaimed, her voice dripping with honey so sickeningly sweet, Anya wanted to drop the jar. This woman had always frowned at her friendship with Lena, yet she was being nice now?

Even if she swore that she did not know anything about what was going to happen tonight, Daniel and Anya would not believe it.

“Thank you, Monica,” Anya replied, her smile stiff and strained. “You look lovely as well.”

Lena’s father nodded in agreement, his eyes sweeping over them both with a critical gaze. He was always a man of little words, but Anya was convinced it was not from refraining to speak, but having nothing important to say.

With a forced smile, Anya nodded, and they made their way further into the room, greeting guests and exchanging pleasantries

As the night wore on, Anya searched the room for Lena.

Just as Anya was beginning to feel suffocated by the stifling atmosphere, a familiar face caught her eye. Mary, her friend, confidante, and undercover agent trying to destroy her life stood at the edge of the room, a glass of champagne in hand.

Anya’s face lit up with warmth she was not sure was genuine or not as she made her way over to her friend. She was not really sure how she felt about Mary now. She definitely did not feel that this

was her friend anymore. Daniel followed closely behind, his hand rested on her back for support.

“Mary,” Anya exclaimed, enveloping her in a tight hug. “It’s so good to s you.”

Mary returned the hug with equal fervor, a smile lighting up her face. “Anya, you look

absolutely stunning,” she said, her eyes sparkling with admiration. I was unsure if she really meant it or was just a good actor.

Anya laughed, a free and unrestrained sound that echoed through the room. “Thank you, Mary. Coming from you, that means a lot.”

Daniel nodded in agreement, his smile reserved and light, one would think it was not even there. “Mary, it’s always a pleasure,” he said, extending his hand in greeting.

Mary shook his hand warmly, her gaze flickering between the two of them. “Likewise, Daniel. You two make quite the striking couple.”

As they chatted and laughed together, the weight of Anya’s earlier tension seemed to melt

away. For some reason, she was more confident than before. Anya was convinced that she and Daniel had the advantage here, not Mary, not Lena’s parents, and definitely, not Lena.

On the other side of the room, Daniel’s sister Lily, Ryan and Jason stood with their wives looking in Daniel’s direction. Jason‘ wife Amanda raises a brow at Daniel and Anya’s figures.

“Did something happen? He is basically glued to her,” she commented.

“You would have thought that she would fly away,” Lily said.

“I have been seeing him glued to her all day, Something definitely happened,” Nancy. Ryan’s wife agreed. Before Ryan could answer, His mother, Wendy stuck her head out of nowhere and spoke.

“Anya asked for a divorce today,” Wendy chimed in and slipped away just as quickly as she

came.

“Really?” Natalia asked, Mirroring all of their shock.

“What happened?” Jason asked with a frown.

“They fought over a document, she got hurt in the process. After that, she asked for the gift her mother sent to dad announcing that it is not necessary since they were getting a divorce,” Ryan answered.

“Daniel, really messed up,” Jason said.

“Since then, he has been stuck to her, it is as though he is afraid she will disappear,” Wendy appeared out of nowhere again and chimed in.

“How did it get to that?” Lily asked.

“He should obviously not leave her side. He should be begging every single moment,” Amanda said and they all paused.

“What?” Amanda asked when she saw the weird look they had in their eyes.

“I had thought you would be the first to enjoy her drama,” Nancy said the w is they were all

thinking.

“What is enjoying drama? I am not your mother” she answered, and Wendy’s purse smacked Jason’s back out of nowhere, before she slipped away again. Jason felt wronged, but the others. were amused. His wife was the one who said this, but he was the one who got hit.

“I just did not like the way she was trying too hard to fit in all the time, looking all weak, barely even opening her mouth. Someone would think she committed a crime or something, Amanda explained.

The ballroom buzzed with the energy of the party, the sound of laughter and music filling the air as guests mingled and danced. Anya stood in a small circle with Mary, making small talk.

“So, Anya, I have not seen Lena yet, Isn’t she coming?” Mary asked, her eyes wandered around as she spoke.

“It’s fine. I heard that the ship has already left the docks. She should already be on the ship or she would have called me by now.” Anya smiled, taking a sip of her drink before responding.

Mary snorted in response, “So late, someone would think she was the host.”

Anya chuckled, the sound light and airy. “I dare you to say it to her face, she has a habit of pulling people’s hair in anger.”

Daniel suddenly excused himself from their conversation, leaning in close to whisper in Anya’s ear. “I’m going to have a chat with Father and the brothers. I’ll be back soon.”

Anya nodded in understanding, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips. “Take your time, I’ll be here.”

With a quick squeeze of her hand, Daniel slipped away, making his way across the room to where his father and brothers stood in a small group.

“Look who finally unglued himself from his wife’s hip. A little second longer and you have melted into her skin and become a new organ,” Lily taunted when she saw him.

“Work hard,” Jason patted his shoulder, “This mess is completely your own,” he said. NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.

“I need to talk to both of you and father,” Daniel said to his brothers and their teasing ceased,

“Now?” his father asked.

“Yes, father. Let us find somewhere quiet,” Daniel nodded and led them to a nearby living room, away from the prying eyes and ears of the other guests.

Once they were all seated, Daniel pulled out his phone and sent the email he had typed out before in the afternoon.

“Please check your mail, I have sent you something,” he said and they co..

he said and they co. lied after a few glances at each other.

As his father and brothers read the message, their expressions grew increasingly serious, brows came together quickly as they absorbed information he had sent. The tension in the round became as heavy as the gravity of the situation. The email contained crucial information he had gathered from Anya. They were surrounded by government agents, suspected of aiding and funding terrorists in the Middle East and this was a plot orchestrated by Lena’s family.

“Keep reading,” he urged them and they returned to the email. He had talked about the bank accounts and their secret project that was like a nail in the coffin.

“What do you mean by this?” Micheal asked.

“Is this a joke?” Jason said.

Chapter 27 Good

“Is this why she asked for a divorce?” Ryan’s words made Daniel’s face darken.

“She found out this morning,” he answered.

“I am not accusing her of things. We know her enough to understand that she is easily used. Your wife is very trusting, it is worrying. Is the divorce out of guilt?” Jason asked.
