The Beta’s Regret

Chapter 229

(Eden’s Pov)

Things got worse.

As I laid on the bed with my eyes fixed on a spot on the ceiling, I thought about what had happened in the past few days with Cheryl and Ryker.

They were suddenly placed on a high pedestal way above Eros and I, and this has caused some maids to become disrespectful and spiteful towards me. Even the maids personally assigned to me had their own reservations…

My pregnancy hormones didn’t make it better. Tiara grew restless with every passing moment and craved the touch of her absent mate.

There was no one to comfort me, not even Eros.

I also began to worry about my mother and why I couldn’t reach her or Lord Shevek on the phone.

Whenever I called, the line was always unavailable. I still felt restless about the dream I had and needed assurance that it wasn’t real. But nothing was going the way I wanted.

It felt as if I was in the center of a maze and nothing made proper sense.

Eros and I had been on the edge for weeks now. Ryker and Cheryl have been in the lead for the kingship test, and I began to fear that Ryker and Cheryl would win.

This already had its effect on Eros, who had withdrawn into a shell.

I heard a sound at the door, and it opened. I knew it was Eros.

I turned to my side and folded my knees.

Eros didn’t notice my movements, or maybe he did and chose to ignore it. I wasn’t sure, but he moved straight to the bathroom, and the next thing I heard was the sound of water running.

My mind flashed back to when we made love in that same space. I felt a small ache of desire hit me as I imagined his touch on my body.

I sighed.

With Eros, it was always cold, one minute and scorching hot the next. I wasn’t exactly sure what I could do to make him feel better.

Soon, the water stopped running, and Eros stepped out.

My hormones were all over the place. I felt a great urge to throw myself into his arms without a care, but I stayed still.

He walked up to the bed and stood beside it.

I felt his eyes on me. At first, I was sure he wanted to touch me, but when I didn’t hear any movement, I gave up on that thought.

After a few moments, Eros walked away.

I sat up as soon as I heard the door close behind me.

I felt tears sting my eyes. My heart squeezed painfully as I felt an emptiness grip me.

This wasn’t what I had envisioned when I thought of having a family with Eros. I had always imagined a loving mate placing soft kisses on my belly as he confessed his love to me and showed his fatherly love to our child.

I softly rubbed my stomach. There was a small bump now. My belly has begun to grow faster, and I knew that in a few weeks, I will be heavy.

I was scared. What would happen to us in the coming weeks if Eros was this cold to me now?

What exactly made him turn cold to me? Did I do something wrong, or does he no longer love me anymore?

Could it be he’s angry that Cheryl is having an edge against me?

I needed my mate now more than ever.

I need him to hold my waist and kiss me softly on the lips. I want him to whisper to his pup in my belly and place tiny kisses on it.

I don’t want a mate who only waltzes into the room in the deep of the night and silently goes to bed.

He had refused to touch me or talk to me.

Eros was slowly fading away from me, but I have no idea what to do to make him stay.

He seemed uninterested.

I moved away from the bed, hungry for a view of the moon. I headed to the window and stood before it.

I was still taking in the beautiful sight before me when the clouds closed over the moon. The sky went darker, and the moon slowly hid itself.

Soon, a strong wind blew, and trees rustled wildly in response.

It was about to rain.

As

soon as I thought of it, I heard the sound of rain falling against the roof of the house. The atmosphere became calm.

I watched the rain drop on the window as it became heavier, and I felt a sinking feeling in my

chest.

I missed the man I love.

With the number of times Eros has given me the cold shoulder in the past month, I was beginning to assume our love might be coming to a standstill.

Maybe love doesn’t last forever like I assumed.

Because there was no way Eros would love me and still treat me like I was an insignificant part of his life. At least he would let me comfort him if he was in despair, but Eros was avoiding me. It was obvious something had changed or gone wrong.

My heart ached, and I tried hard not to grab my chest and cry out in pain.

Tears pricked my eyes at the thought of what we shared in the past that might be no more.

I tipped my head back and tried to hold in the tears that threatened to fall down. My throat constricted, and I could hardly breathe properly. I parted my lips, trying to take in air, but nothing helped.

The tears fell, hard and fast.

Still caught in my emotions, I heard a noise different from the sound of rain drops. It got my attention, and my hairs stood on ends.

I stepped closer to the window and looked closely. Out in the rain, I saw two figures.

Even though he was in the shadows, I easily identified one of the figure as Eros. He was in front of a woman. NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.

I frowned. From the way they spoke, it looked like they were having a serious argument.

Suddenly Eros began to walk out.

“Wait!” The woman yelled. I heard her voice through the rain. It was faint but clear enough for me to decipher.

That voice.

My eyes suddenly widened in recognition. Susie!

I watched her hurry over to him and hug him from behind. My despair deepened.

What was happening?

Suddenly, all that had happened when I was still in Lord Shevek’s coven came back to me with a force.

Now that I thought about it, Eros never clarified to me what happened with Susie and why he was with her. Had Eros been in a relationship with Susie all this while? Even when he came back to

me?

I watched Eros. He didn’t move away from Susie’s embrace. Suddenly, she released him and stormed off. Eros went after her in a hurry and then pulled her into a dark comer. They were out of sight.

I swallowed.

My heart broke into tiny pieces. I began to imagine what was going on.

Were they sharing a kiss? A way to settle their lover’s quarrel?

Or worse, were they making love?

After a few minutes, I saw Eros storm out in anger, his movements quick as he walked away. after him in the rain.

Anger surged in me.

I turned to the door and patiently waited for him to come in….
