Chapter 22
DANNY
I managed to drag Courtney out to the stadium. She doesn’t really want to face people, but she can not stay in the apartment forever. Kyle was waiting for us when we got there. “Hey, I got you some seats. It’s next to Bridget you don’t mind do you?”
“No, I like Bridget.” I really do. She is really down to earth. I think she is good for Pearson too. She seems to level him out a little.
Courtney seems on edge. “I don’t think Bridget likes me though. Maybe I should go home.”
I link my arm with hers. “No, we talked about this. You need to get out of the house. It is good for you.”
She takes a deep breath and nods. Kyle leads us to our seats, all the while holding my hand. I can see Bridget up ahead and she seems happy to see us approach. She even smiles at Courtney. “Wow, I haven’t seen you out and about for a while.”
Courtney kind of shies away. “Yeah, I have been a little out of it. Danny is making me get out.”
I take the seat in the middle between the two. Kyle leans over before he takes off. He doesn’t say anything but he kisses me hard and it seems with purpose. I am not sure what that purpose is, but it is there. He gives me one last peck before he takes off running. We are seated behind the team on the bottom row. I think this is to make it easier for us to run onto the field.
Bridget leans over to me. “Did Kyle ask you to do that thing too? Where we run out in the field if they win?”
“Yeah, did they always do that?”
“I think we were just oblivious.” She laughs and I do too.
Courtney decides it would be good to add to the conversation. “So, Bridget, are you dating Pearson?”
“Yeah. It started recently. I know I was kind of just the outside girl for a while. But Pearson has really helped me to open up.”
Courtney smiles. “Good. Make sure he treats you well. Don’t let these jocks walk all over you two.”
I nudged her arm. “Awe, thanks sis. You do care.”
“I have my moments.”
“You know,” Bridget starts. “Danny said that you changed. I wasn’t sure I believed her, but seeing you like this. I believe it. You are different. What happened?”
Courtney looks down. “I made some bad choices. Then I looked around and saw who really cared about me. I have to say it is a shortlist. Danny being number one. I had to change to be a better sister.”Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Bridget smiles at her. “Well, you can count me as a friend. Hey, do you want to come with us to the lake? We are going to the falls.”
Courtney nods. “Yeah, as long as I don’t have to jump.”
We all laugh. None of us want to do that. Courtney has a good reason though. We kind of chat about the falls, while we are waiting for the game to start. Kelly at some point makes her way over to where we are sitting, with a few other girls that I am pretty sure I saw at the diner. She sneers at me, but I could care less.
Bridget leans in. “Don’t worry. The way he kissed you, he isn’t going anywhere. No matter how much she flaunts it.”
Courtney isn’t having it though. “So, Kelly, can you do me a favor?” She is using her fake sweet voice. I know that voice, she used it on me enough.
Kelly smiles over at her. “Sure, Court.”
“Can you keep your fucking hands off my sisters man?” Courtney keeps her sweet smile on, but she has this look in her eyes that makes it clear that she is not playing around.
Kelly just smirks. “Maybe you should tell him to keep his hands off me.”
Courtney just tisk tisk her and shakes her head. “Oh, he may have dabbled with you in the past, but you got nothing on him and Danny. Believe me, we live together. I know all that goes on in my house.”
My eyes widened. We haven’t done anything. How could Courtney say something like that? She made it sound like we screw all the time or something.
Bridget pipes up. “In other words you were a booty call, when he was in need. He loves Danny. Take a hint.”
Kelly doesn’t look happy being ganged up on. But she lost the satisfied smirk.
I am glad that I am able to enjoy the game now. I don’t have to worry about Kelly giving me shit, because for once my sister has my back.
