Chapter 32
Jace was so pissed at Emerald after hearing her saying I love you too to whomever he thought she called baby. He was so jealous, and even though he wanted to show her how angry he was, he tried to control himself because he knew he was at fault and thought he needed to be patient with her.
The following day, he didn’t go to his office for fear that the divorce papers would be waiting for him on his desk, just like Emerald had told him. He called Kyle instead and asked him to bring everything he needed to do in his penthouse so he could work.
“Why are you working here?” Kyle asked curiously. As far as he knows, Jace doesn’t like working in his penthouse. He wanted to be in his office so anyone could contact him for any problem.
“I just feel like working here,” Jace replied, making Kyle shake his head.
“I knew there’s a reason for it.” he insisted.
“Are these all that need my attention?” Young Higginson asked again. Although he tried to avoid it, he still thought the divorce papers would be included in the documents his friend would bring him.
“Is there anything in particular that you are looking for?”
“Nothing, I just want to make sure that this is all,” Jace answered and started to read the documents in the folder he was holding.
“Oh, before I forget, Emerald asked for a leave,” Jace asked as his eyes flew to Kyle, sitting on the couch before him. “Don’t look at me like that; I didn’t do anything.”
“Then why did she apply for a leave?”
“She said it was an emergency. But she told me to call her if something happened or if she’s needed.” Kyle replied. “Don’t be too hopeful because she strictly said that it has to be important because she will be going to the hospital.”
“What?” Jace exclaimed and couldn’t help but worry for his wife. “Which hospital?” he asked, reaching for his phone, planning to call his wife.
“She didn’t say, please put it down. She doesn’t need you there because if she did, she would have called you.” stopping him from dialing his phone.
“Who was hospitalized?”
“She didn’t say either.”
“Don’t you know anything?” Jace asked, annoyed. He started to worry about Emerald, and he was angry, knowing he couldn’t do anything and didn’t know anything.
“Don’t worry about her because she doesn’t care about you either,” Kyle replied. He liked what he was seeing. He knew that Jace was already pissed at him and the fact that his beloved wife was in the hospital, but he couldn’t do anything about it.
“You know what? Why don’t you go back to your work instead and leave me alone?” Jace asked angrily, so Kyle left him.
Once he was alone, Jace couldn’t concentrate on his work. His mind was on Emerald and how she was. He couldn’t help but think about who was in the hospital and why she would need to be there if she was fine. Because he wanted to know the answer to his question, young Higginson picked up his phone and called Creep.
“Yes, Mr. Higginson?”
“Creep, I wonder why Emerald is not in my company now,” he said,
“I thought she already informed Kyle about it. But anyway, she’s in the hospital right now.”
“Why?”
“I am not in the position to tell you about it. If you want to know, you can ask her when she returns to work.”
“I didn’t want any delay in the project” Jace said, but Creep cut off his words.
“Mr. Higginson, Emerald is a very responsible person. She will get back to work when everything’s okay, and she will not let herself become the reason for any delays. She had her laptop, so I’m sure she’s still working as we speak.” Creep said confidently and ended their call.
Meanwhile, Emerald is in the hospital room attending to her son, who suffers from an allergic reaction. She has been careful with his food and has informed nanny Keng about it. However, the cook is unaware of his condition and has added some seafood to their meals.
“Doctor,” Emerald greeted.
“Ms. Morgan, see that you check everything the boy takes. It was good that he had been sent here, so we gave him immediate medication.”
“I was careful, but I guess I’m still careless since I failed to inform our cook.”
“There are a lot of factors that may trigger his allergies, so see to it that you are watching him closely. He’s just a boy, so his immune system is not as good as an adult’s and could get affected easily.”
“I understand,” Emerald replied before the doctor gave her some prescriptions for Ace and left the hospital after he was discharged. Until they left the hospital, Emerald was unaware of the pair of eyes that were fixated on her.

“Cedrik, are you still there?” asked the man over the phone.
“Yes, Mr. Landers.”
“Why are you not talking? Did you get any news?”
“I’m at the hospital to check on the report that I received, but I think I found something else,” Cedrik replied,
“What is it?”
“I think I saw someone I know, but I don’t know who or where I saw her.”
“A woman? Are you, by any chance, flirting right now?” Mr. Landers asked angrily.
“Of course not!” Cedrik exclaimed, already picturing what the man he was talking to looked like. Then his eyes widened. “Mr. Landers, I think I know where I saw her now.”
“Who?”
“The woman I just saw. I thought she looked familiar, but I realized she looked somewhat like you.”
“What? What are you talking about? I told you to look for Ember and not some random woman!” Mr. Landers shouted.
“But the woman looks like you.” Cedrik insisted.
“Show me her picture.” Mr. Landers told him.
“Well, I didn’t manage to take her photos since I was talking to you,” Cedrik replied.
“Next time you report something to me, ensure you have all the necessary information and documents to support it.” Mr. Landers replied.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Landers,” Cedrik replied. However, they were close; he still didn’t want to argue with him since he knew how much he had been suffering from missing the woman he loved. They ended the call and decided to find out about the woman he saw, who was none other than Emerald. He had a feeling that he would be able to discover something.

Two days later, Jace was busy in his penthouse thinking about the divorce that Emerald had told him. He didn’t want it, so he started to think about ways he could stop her from filing it. Although he had a feeling that his wife still felt something for him, the fact that he hurt her and she was angry with him, he couldn’t let his guard down and relax. But first, he needed to confirm Emerald’s feelings for him.
Jace grabbed his phone from the center table and called Kyle. “What is it?” his friend asked.
“If ever Emerald needs something from me, tell her to come up here.” young Higginson said.
“Why? What are you planning to do? Jace, I’m telling you, Emerald is doing well and has a good working relationship with the others, so don’t ruin it.” Kyle warned. Although he knew that Jace still loved young Morgan, he also knew she was uncomfortable around his friend.
“Just tell her what I told you,” Jace replied impatiently. “Do you think that I am going to jeopardize our own company’s project?”
“You even neglected your company when Emerald left. How much more than a single project?” Kyle reminded him.
“It’s different then. Now, my relationship with Emerald will not affect my work.”
“Tell me what you plan to do first.” Kyle insisted.
“Just do it,”
“Tell me first.” Jace was so annoyed that he would have punched Kyle if they were facing each other.
“I need to talk to her about our divorce.”
“You’re divorcing her?” Kyle asked in disbelief.
“Of course not!” Jace exclaimed, “But she’s planning to divorce me.”
“Oh, that sucks.”
“So you better do as I say. I need to talk to her and explain my side. I can’t let her file our divorce. Do you get that?”
“Fine, fine. You know that you’re not just a friend to me but also a brother. Of course, I only want your happiness.”
“Thanks, man,” Jace replied,
“No problem,” Kyle said, and they ended the call. Jace leaned back as he put his phone down. He had to know what his wife really wanted so he could plan his move. He didn’t like seeing his wife with another man, which pained him, knowing she was ready to divorce him.
He was in deep thought when he heard his penthouse door open. He didn’t bother to move, thinking it was Emerald, and pretended to be asleep. He abruptly opened his eyes when someone sat on his lap and kissed him.
“What are you doing here?” Jace exclaimed. Esther smiled at him seductively as she caressed his chest after she let go of his lips.
“I miss you so much, Jace. It’s been years; don’t tell me you still like that ugly duckling wife of yours.” Esther said as her fingers played on young Higginson’s lips before she kissed him again. The scene that Emerald witnessed as soon as she opened the door.
