Sold As The Alpha King’s Breeder Chapter 17
“Jessica! Jessica! Jessica!” I called after my girlfriend as she dashed towards the forest. I could see her golden locks glistening in the moonlight, and her yellow dress got stained with mud as she ran. Some kids from the crowd saw the commotion and followed us, but I chose to ignore them. Jessica was all I could think of.
“Get away from me!’ She shouted, suddenly turning around and shoving me. I saw the devastated and angry look in her eyes. I could not help feeling terrible when I looked into her eyes. She was beautiful, and she has been my only mate. I was so sure she was my mate until I experienced what I experienced just now.
“Listen, Jessica,” I said, panting as I tried to explain my behavior. “I don’t know what came over me. It was an inexplicable attraction that was coming from that girl. I don’t know who she is, and I would never cheat on you. I just couldn’t resist this. I’m sorry, Jessica.”
Her face was red and puffy. Her makeup had run down her cheeks. She seemed to soften a little when she heard my words, but she still seemed distraught. She stretched out her hand, grasped my hand gently, and squeezed it before she released it again.
“You’re the Alpha, Triton.” She said simply as she dabbed her face gently with a handkerchief. “You will know your mate without any mistakes or second guess. You seem to have found your mate. I can’t standby and watch you do it, though.”
“Jessica, listen, I don’t even know if I did,” I said slowly as I looked into her eyes pleadingly. “Don’t give up on us so easily. We have so many years together, and you’re the only mate I’ve ever had. And, will ever need.”
She smiled at me sweetly and touched my cheek. She gazed at me for a very long time until she finally let go of my cheek and turned, and walked away. I was going to go after her, but something held me back. The nagging feeling hit me and held me back from going after her. I was starting to think she was
right. Maybe my real soulmate was inside the Moon Goddess ball. If she was, though, I did not want to meet her. Not tonight. All I wanted was Jessica. But, I knew deep down inside that she was right. She wasn’t for me after all.
The crowd of kids around me started to come closer, taunting and mocking me. I could hear them gleefully declare that the Alpha’s son got dumped. I snarled. I shifted to my wolf form and fled. They followed.
***Ariana’s POV***
“I didn’t know the whole Balck Sky pack youth would come to the ball,” Alex told me, glancing over at the cluster of Black Sky.
I looked over at them and shrugged. I did not really mind so much that they were here, except that they always acted like our chaperons or something. Being the neutral pack, the young members always seemed to act like they were just a little better and needed to “keep the peace” between the Black Sky and Shining Moon packs.
“Do they bother you?” I asked Alex and took a drink of my punch. It was very strong, I noticed. I had never drunk much alcohol before, and I didn’t expect something so aggressive on a sacred evening. In fact, in my own mind, the whole evening did not seem so sacred. The worst thing was, I did not feel any different. I did not feel bad or anything, but I thought I was supposed to feel something special at the ball. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
“They don’t really bother me,” Alex answered as he musingly sipped the punch. “I just feel weird being here, honestly. I don’t know exactly what I am supposed to be feeling.”
“Maybe we just feel everything we were meant to feel already,” I said reassuringly, grasping his hand. He looked down at my hand and smiled softly. He pulled my hand close to his lips and kissed my knuckles softly.
Everyone was so
rt of just keeping to themselves. I was not sure why this party seemed so dead and devoid of life, but I felt it had something to do with the feud between all of us. Alex and I decided to slow dance together. A few other couples were on the dance floor with us, but no one got anywhere near one another. It seemed like the most socially awkward gathering anyone ever had to attend.
After dancing, we sat down to eat some of the food when our attention was caught by a large crowd of neutral pack members entering the room. They must be latecomers to the party. I barely paid them any attention except to see that there was an alarmingly pretty girl at the front of the crowd. She had curly brown hair, a perfect chin, and wore a very sexy dress.
I wasn’t certain, but I was pretty sure her name was Patty. She was in my chemistry class in high school, but she never spoke to me. Like most neutral pack members, she thought she was better than us.
“Honey, I’m just heading to the bathroom,” Alex told me, standing up, kissing my cheek, and heading towards the restrooms in the back. I nodded but did not say anything. My attention was immediately pulled away by the raucous group of drunk pack members talking loudly outside about chasing a wolf.
Through the cracked front doors, I could see a dark wolf bolt away as the crowd pursued. A wolf? I wondered if it was an actual wolf or if maybe one of the members decided to turn into a wolf tonight. I decided to follow them. I’d be back in plenty of time for Alex. I grabbed my shawl and followed the drunk pack members at a distance.
I followed them all down the dark path through the forest. It wound through some of the deeper parts of the woods, where the grass and tree roots almost tripped me a few times. They seemed to be feeling aggressive, and I was wondering if they were planning to have another fight. Our parents all had a
mutual pact to no longer fight, but the younger members of the pack fought regularly. I never got into any fights that were too intense, but I’ve seen many of them.
“Look, there it is!” one of the guys up at the front of the group shouted and pointed. They all started to dash down the side of the hill and fell upon the unsuspecting wolf.
I heard a loud howl pierce through the forest, and I felt the hair on my arms stand on end as I listened to the howl pierce my ears. Instinctively, I began running with the other kids towards the wolf.
When I came to the place where the wolf was to find him completely surrounded by young teens pummeling the wolf with large sticks and rocks, the wolf growled, snarled, took nips and swipes at the young people. But, he was way outnumbered. I could not bear to see him being surrounded hopelessly. I dashed over to him and flung myself on his body, which at this point was very battered and beaten. He was injured, lying on his side.
“Leave him alone,” I shouted, looking at them angrily. “He wasn’t hurting anyone! Just leave him alone.”
I felt my body grow tense as I prepared to handle myself getting hammered by rocks and sticks. But, to my surprise, they seemed disinterested in continuing and just left. Maybe they were feeling they needed to get more alcohol in their systems. I felt terrible for the wolf and gave it my shawl to stay warm as he recovered.
When I returned to the Moon Goddess ball, I looked about for Alex but did not see him anywhere. I decided to keep looking for him. I was about to give up after 20 minutes of searching when I stumbled up to him sitting in the corner gazing at Patty. His look was strange, and I did not feel I could approach him. I just turned away and sat at the table, staring at my cake and feeling a bit unhappy.
