Chapter 39. Major Fail

Chapter 39. Major Fail

Noah POV

I was dreaming about Briana when my phone started buzzing, rousing me from sleep. Frustrated, I grabbed the phone without looking at the caller ID to bark. “What?”

“Noah?”

I sighed. “Yes. Uncle Matt?” I replied using my normal tone of voice.

Uncle Matt cleared his throat. “Are you coming to the Rosewood Hotel’s grand launch?” He asked.

There was a pregnant silence, and my insides curdled at what Uncle Matt had to say. I remember this same scene five years ago. He called me to ask if I was about to leave the office for my third wedding anniversary.

“Yes.” I finally replied.

“Okay. See you there.” He told me and hung up the phone. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

stared at my blank screen for seconds longer before I clambered off the bed and padded my way to the ensuite bathroom.

With water spraying over my head and face from the shower nozzle, I pushed Uncle Matt’s call aside and concentrated on my dream.

At the possibility of seeing Braina again, a smile formed on my face. Maybe I can coax her to talk to me privately so I can ask her about the triplets.

I was so excited to hear it from her own pouty lips when she confirmed that the triplets were mine after I showed my proof.

If she did not want to acknowledge my proof, I could easily ask for a paternity test. It’s not that I doubt the triplets are mine. It’s the other way around. It would be to prove to everyone else that they are indeed my children.

When I finished showering, I took two towels from the rack. One is to slung low over my hips, while I used the other one to rub my hair dry.

I walked into my closet and chose a suit befitting the occasion – a charcoal gray three–piece suit Briana had custom–made for me. I paired it with its matching dress shoes.

I also used one of the perfumes she liked and grinned to myself.

I could not wait to see the surprise in her eyes when she saw me wearing the suit this afternoon.

I hope the suit and the perfume would make her remember about the past – before the accident happened.

“I want her to fall in love with me,” I told Brent on the phone.

He laughed. “You are crazy, Hunter.”

That stings. “Am I crazy to want my life back?” I asked him, clearly offended, but Brent had qualms about

crushing my illusions.

“You have to remember, to get the life you said you wanted to have back, you have to cross a mountain called Marcus Ford, or have you forgotten?” The reminder made my gut twisted.

“Yes. I know. But I am the triplets‘ father.”

Brent laughed again, making me feel like my confidence had plummeted.

I feel so insecure.

“So? You are their biological dad, but you were not the father they knew. You were never the father who cared for them since they were little. It was all Ford.” What he said made my chest ache.

“I want my family back,” I said, feeling a constriction in my chest at the helplessness of my case. Brent snickered. “What about Briana? Does she want you back?” Brent challenged again.

“She kissed me.” I insisted, recalling those two times when she responded to my advances. I could feel it

in my gut.

“Briana has not forgotten all about me. She still has some feelings for me and if I worked hard. I could make her fall in love with me again.”

“Dream on, Hunter. You hurt her. She was better off with Marcus Ford.”

“Are you on my side or his side?” I shot back, clearly irritated this time.

Brent’s making me increasingly frustrated while continuously talking me out of my plans to steal Briana from her husband.

“I am on your side. That’s why I am trying to make you see reason. You don’t steal someone else’s wife, dude. Let her be. You can request Briana to allow you to meet the kids and visitation rights, but don’t push your luck.”

Chris called after I hung up on Brent to announce that he was already waiting downstairs with the driver.

I took my phone, shoved it in the front pocket of my pants, and walked out of the apartment to my waiting

car.

We arrived at the venue a little early. We were not the first guests to arrive but still early by standards.

When I got out of the car, Chris got out, too.

I was surprised when someone latched on my arm.

At the same time, my body froze when my eyes connected with Briana’s familiar black ones. At the sight of her beautiful face, I had forgotten everything I planned out in my head.

I feel like a teenager out to see his first crush. My body felt weak.

Our eyes held for a while before she pulled her gaze away, but I could feel her disgust.

It was then that I was reminded of the weight in my arms and pulled my arm back.

“What are you doing here, Britney?”
