Heat spreads quickly to my cheeks at her rudeness.
It was not something I could not let slide. No one disrespected me
like that.
“Noah, thank you for gracing our show. Per usual, you are superb.” Amy Smith snatched my attention away from Briana Ford while she gushed my praises, unaware of the inner turmoil inside my head.
“Come again?” I asked when I did not get her words.
My brain has malfunctioned and got stuck to one image – the minx of a girl named Briana Ford.
Amy leaned close and whispered near my ear, and something inside me recoiled. My displeasure doubled.
“Maybe we could extend this meeting to dinner. Alfredo’s
mentioned in its recent advertisement this new addition to their menu. One of my co–workers said it was spectacular.” She droned on, but my attention was not on her.
“Sorry, Amy, but I have a prior engagement,” I cut her off brusquely.
I heard her gasp of surprise at the uncharacteristic show of rudeness. Lignored it while I sprinted after Briana Ford.
I ditched the elevator and went for the stairs, ignoring curious looks thrown my way when I dashed outside.
It was only when I caught sight of her that I felt an unfamiliar

sense of relief.
She was outside the studio building’s façade when an SUV stopped in front of her.
A door opened, and my eyes squinted as I recognized the man who got out of the driver’s side.
He was Marcus Ford, the international model and also one of the major stock owners of the Ford Empire.
When Briana saw him, she smiled, and the façade of the perfect businesswoman eased off her face, giving me a glimpse of the Briana I knew, my ex–wife.
It was with certainty that I concluded that Briana Ford and Briana Johnson are the same.
I saw Marcus buzzed Briana’s cheek, and she playfully slapped his arm when he tried to chuck her chin.
They were flirting in broad daylight, and I could feel the stirring of the green–eyed monster inside me.
It was like I was flummoxed.
The scene was like a punch to my solar plexus.
While I was tormented by what she had done to me and my family, she was busy building a life with a new man.
Fury flared inside me.
I was about to approach her, intent on stopping that gravely annoying scene, but was struck into stillness.
“Mommy, stop playing with Marcus!” It was the voice of a little boy,
and it was coming from inside the SUV.
Quickly, I took cover on the nearest wall. It was enough to offer a hiding place while I watched them
Briana and Marcus Ford simultaneously looked at the open SUV with their mouths hanging open.
Then, their expressions changed.
Briana grinned from ear to ear while her eyes sparkled.
“Marcus? You are calling me Marcus only?” Marcus Ford called out threateningly, but I could see happiness on his face.
He marched to the SUV.
When his upper body disappeared inside., I could hear squeals of delight – the sounds of which pricked my chest, making it hard for me to breathe.
–
Every time I hear that boy’s giggles and laugh, it feels like my heart is being squeezed painfully in my chest.
“Daddy M!” The child relented and shouted at the top of his lungs while trying to breathe in.
“Yeah, right! I am your daddy!” Marcus Ford declared before he went back out again to help Briana to the car.
As if what I saw was not enough torture for me. I stayed behind
and watched.
He clipped her safety belt for her.
I saw her smile her thanks, and he smiled back. Then, Marcus bent to pick up something from the floor. It was a pair of fluffy slippers.

I watched as Marcus carefully took her high–heeled pumps off her feet and replaced them with those slippers, and my breath hitched as I stifled the urge to run to them and shove his hands away.
My whole being rebelled at what I had witnessed just now.
It can’t be! She changed her name to Briana Ford when she married Marcus Ford.
The painful truth glared back at me. My ex–wife married Marcus Ford, and she bore him a child!
The realization froze me on the spot. I was rooted to where I was. watching them.
After the SUV drove away, it was the only time I felt I had regained my strength. I pulled out my phone and called Brent.
“Can you get every information you can get about Briana Ford?“
“I thought you were not interested in her. What changed your mind?” I could detect confusion in Brent’s voice like he was trying to wrap his head around my request.
“Briana Ford is my ex–wife. She was Briana Johnson.” I hissed at
the other end.
