Chapter 16. Loathing Fills My Heart

Noah POV

I slid inside the car to join Britney, and without looking at her, I ordered the driver to pull away, which he did immediately following my orders.

I checked my watch and started counting the time. I could not wait to drop Britney off so I could do my tung.

I felt Britney shift in her seat while she drew closer.

“1

I am sorry. Are you still upset with me?” She asked.

Gone was the flamboyant persona she assumed at the airport, and she was back to the timid Britney I used to know when we were together, one of the things I liked about her.

“I am not,” I told her tersely.

I was looking forward.

My mind is busy conjuring the face of that woman in the airport. Her eyes were the same as Briana’s, but the resemblance stopped there.

While Briana had pale brown straight hair, the woman at the airport had wavy blonde hair that shone when it caught light. NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.

Her body commands attention from the small of her waist to the gently flaring hips and gorgeous legs. My hands itched to run my fingers on them.

On the other hand, Briana is attractive. But when I compared them, Briana could not hold a candle to that woman at the airport. That

woman looked stunning!

I shook my head and looked out the window. Judging from the view outside, I could tell we were still fifteen minutes away from Britney’s apartment.

Impatiently, I rubbed the palms of my hands together.

“Are you cold?” Britney asked.

I did not notice that she had inched closer, and our shoulders almost touched. My body froze.

“Britney, can you please move a little further away? I am feeling crowded.” I asked in an impatient voice.

She did as I asked, but her body language said she was furious and very near to exploding.

There was tension in the air between us.

I counted in my head, anticipating the storm.

“I do not know what is wrong with you. You wouldn’t let me touch you in private. I am your fiancée, yet you are pushing me away.” Britney lashed out, and I saw tears in her eyes.

She clutched the hem of her dress, gripping it hard, and I understood her inner struggle, but I couldn’t sympathize with her.

I feel nothing for her except guilt.

“You know my terms even before you approached me and offered to help me. You know what I have been through.”

“But it had been years!” Britney countered.

“Can’t you get past your ex–wife’s betrayal and move on? What

about me?” Britney was openly sobbing now. Her shoulders shook. as tears wracked her body.

I sighed.

Maybe I should have done this a long time ago.

“This is not working anymore. Maybe we should just part ways. and move on.” I suggested, feeling tired of this same argument year in and year out.

“No!”

Shock filled her red and tear–stained face.

“Our relationship is going nowhere. Let’s just accept that we were not meant to be.” I told her.

Though I felt guilty for breaking off with her, I think it’s about time.

I do not want to cage her in a relationship and waste her time on

I cupped her face.

“Don’t throw away your best years on me, Britney. I am not worth it.” I admitted, feeling a peculiar sense of relief.

I cannot do this to her anymore.

“I already spent four of my best years with you. Can’t you reward me a little for the sacrifices I made?”

“Britney, this is the reason I am calling off the wedding. I can’t do it again.” I told her honestly.

“What?” She looked so mad. Her nostrils flared in fury.

“Marriage is no longer for me. I clarified.

Right at that moment, I realized I unleashed a tigress.

Britney clawed on my face and my arms, drawing blood.

When her nails cut my skin, and blood gushed out, both of us looked horrified.

I hissed in pain while her face had gone blank.

“No. I won’t let you. You are mine.” She muttered and pulled away

from me.

She moved to the far corner of the seat, her face almost touching the glass pane.

I looked at her in a mixture of worry and pity and sighed.

When the car parked outside her apartment, Britney did not wait for me to open the door for her.

Instead, she pushed the door open and marched out without saying anything or looking in my direction.

“Are you alright, sir?” My driver asked when he saw the wound on my neck.

“I am fine.”

He locked the door, and the car accelerated forward.

I leaned back on the seat with my eyes shut.

I do not want to break Britney’s heart, but I will only pull her down. with me if she stays.
