Chapter 11. Look Like the Bad Guy

Brie POV

After breastfeeding and burping them, Jenna sat with me for a while. We watched the babies while they were asleep.

“So, have you thought about the names of the triplets?” She asked.

“Yeah. My brothers helped. The five of us agreed on the names.” I informed her.

When the hospital administrator came in later, I told him I would name the children Riley, Mason, and Brix. They took Ford as their surname after me. I am now Briana Ford.

Gone was Briana Johnson. She was a person of the past and someone I would rather forget.

We stayed at the hospital for a few more days before Jenna gave me the clear go.

My brothers were all over the babies.

They took turns caring for them, leaving their three nannies with nothing to do most of the time.

I wanted to call the agency to return the nannies.

Rowan insisted that I keep them. He argued that when the children get older, I will need the services of the nannies, especially when I start working for the company.

I cringed at the idea. Surrounded by cute babies, returning to the workforce had become unappealing as each day passed.

When the children were ten months old, Anthony Goldstone, the handsome lawyer who represented my brothers before they decided to show up, came by the house

I was in my house dress, looking bedraggled because I was busy with the children. His presence made me flustered.

“Goldstone! What are you doing here?” I was surprised, but I welcomed his presence at the house.

I realized in my absorption with the triples I had forgotten everything else.

I missed adult company.

Yes, my three single brothers keep me company.

They officially moved in after our discharge from the hospital, and Jenna and Charles swing by anytime they can, but it’s different.

Goldstone saw my state of almost undress and swallowed before looking away.

Embarrassed, I called the nannies. They took the babies while I hurriedly went upstairs to change, leaving Goldstone alone.

I took a quick shower and changed into more comfy yet presentable clothes.

When I got back down, the children were no longer around. Their special cot was empty.

“The nannies took them inside. The little boys were getting fussy.” Goldstone explained when he saw me looking at the crib.

“Yeah, it’s their nap time,” I said, settling on the couch opposite

Goldstone.

“So, what is the visit all about?” I asked.

He laughed, and I realized I missed hearing a man’s laugh like that.

My brothers were not counted.

They laughed like kids, but Goldstone had a nice timber to his laughter. It was comforting and warm at the same time.

“By the way I haven’t thanked you for the gift,” I told him.

After delivering the triplets, I received a bouquet from Goldstone and teddy bears for my little ones.

“I am sorry. I was not able to visit you at the hospital. I had an overseas trip when you gave birth.” He looked apologetic.

There was a tinge of pink coloring his cheek and ears that I found cute and endearing.

“Hey, it’s no biggie. I know you are a busy person.” Our eyes met, and I saw his hands move deftly to get something from his briefcase. He handed it to me.

“What’s this?” I said, opening the folder to peruse its contents.

“Charles, your eldest brother thought it’s about time you learn the ropes of the business.”

I was surprised. I was not prepared for this.

“I just gave birth.” There was reluctance in my voice. I didn’t think I could leave the triplets right now. It’s too soon. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.

“You gave birth ten months ago.” He pointed out.

He got me there.

“The triplets are doing well. Your brothers think that if you don’t start getting to know the business, it will be harder for you later. You have so much to learn Briana Goldstone pressed.

“But…

Goldstone sighed.

“Brie, you have to understand that you are no longer Briana Johnson or Briana Hunter. You are Briana Ford – the heiress to the empire your parents built.”

“Your brothers couldn’t wait to introduce you to the public, but they couldn’t do that unless you are capable enough. They don’t want people to run you over, so you better start training now.”

I have so many misgivings. My experience with Hunter Enterprises left a scar on my self–esteem.

I don’t think I can walk into the corporate world with my head held up high after that.

“I’m afraid,” I admitted to Goldstone with my head downcast.

I felt him move before I noticed he was holding my hand.

“Fear is good. Feed on it. You need that fear to be able to carve your own name and make your own path in the business.”

“Anger, too. Remember what Noah Hunter did to you. He stripped you of everything that is rightfully yours without batting an eyelash.”

“He said he was doing me a favor instead of getting me to court.

He had evidence to prove my accountability to the accident.” This is the first time I admitted to Goldstone what happened.

1 figured as our family’s legal counsel, he had the right to know.

Goldstone snickered.

“Besides, have you any idea Marsha and Danny Hunter bequeathed a part of their fortune to you?”

I looked at Goldstone in shock.

“Marsha and Danny never told me that.”

“It’s because you got married to their son. Noah Hunter knows. If -anything, your children deserve your inheritance and a chunk of

Hunter’s fortune.”

I snickered.

Noah Hunter really did a number on me. He conveniently got me out of his way and got the fortune intended for me.

He not only fooled me. He made me look like the bad guy so he could get everything.
