Chapter 40 A One–Sided Affection
At that moment, Gwen received a text from Ryan. He wrote, “Gwen, do you miss me? 1, your beloved brother, miss to the moon and back! See you in Fernwald soon.”
She shuddered at the corny message and replied, “Not at all!”
Then, she turned to her assistant. “Please collect the flowers for me and distribute them to the ladies in the office.”
“Got it.” The assistant left the office soon after, and Gwen went back to reading the documents.
At that moment, Carson Lowe, the director of business development, locked on her door. “Good morning, Ms. Lawson.”
He walked over and handed her a file with a shrewd look in his eyes. “Here’s the monthly profit report. Please take a
look”
Instead of accepting the document, she stared at him coldly. “Mr. Lowe, do you have something else for me?”
She glanced at the document in his hands. “You could have handed the report to my assistant and saved yourself the
trouble.”
The smile on his face deepened. He faked some bashfulness. “Ms. Lawson, it was ignorant of me to have offended you
in the meeting.”
She smiled at him with indifference.” It’s fine. We’ve talked it out anyway.”
“The more I think of it at home, the more guilty I feel. Can I buy you a simple dinner tonight to make it up to you?
“I have some latest news about Quantum Corporation I’d like to share with you privately.” Carson’s humility was a stark contrast to his arrogance in the meeting room before this.
Gwen crossed her fingers in front of the insincere and fickle man. “Fine. I’ll have dinner with you tonight.”
She raised her guard against the well–informed Carson, who had immediately learned about her intentions to win over Ashton, right after she met Ashton at the dinner party. Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
Whether or not he had the inside scoop on Quantum Corporation, she would still go to dinner with him, just to see what was up his sleeve.
“Awesome! Ms. Lawson, let’s meet at The Tellerson tonight.” He simpered as he left her office, but the moment he closed the door behind him, the grin transformed into a scowl.
Meanwhile, the sweet fragrance of the imported Neptune roses filled the air in the lobby. It had been a while, but Gwen did not show up to collect the roses.
Theodore had been lurking in a corner of the lobby to give Gwen a huge surprise when she came down to collect the
flowers.
After a long wait, he saw Gwen’s assistant showing up to collect the roses. Two bodyguards were ready to transport the flowers to the upper floors.
Theodore wasn’t about to give up. After all, he had placed a handwritten note in the bouquet. He waited and waited until it was time to get off work. The ladies in the office left work, each with some roses in their hands.
Theodore finally gave up when he saw the ladies. Gwen most likely asked for the roses to be distributed to the employees without bothering to take a look.
Frustrated, he noticed the hiring ad on the billboard. A twinkle appeared in his eyes. He had an idea
After work, Gwen arrived at The Tellerson, a famous fine–dining establishment and landmark of Bellmont, where big

shots would visit at least once for the sake of it.
Carson, a lower–level employee, might not be able to afford dinner at The Tellerson. She assumed he had received some help from his secret backer from Quantum Corporation.
After walking past the shimmering lights, she was ushered to Carson’s table.
“Ms. Lawson, you’re here!” Carson did not get up to greet her. Instead, he started smoking with a complete change in attitude.
However, Gwen wasn’t troubled by his attitude at all. Smiling, she put away her bag and took her seat. “I wonder what tea of Quantum Corporation you wanted to spill?
He tapped the cigarette ashes away. His greedy eyes scanned her from head to toe. “We’re in no rush. Let’s have dinner for now.”
She smiled and checked the time on her wristwatch. “I’ll skip dinner because I’m in a rush.”
“You should take your time.” Standing up, he made his way to her seat and placed a hand on the back of the chair. He bent over and closed their distance.
