Chapter 38 Grandpa Agrees to Their Divorce
Nicholas nodded. “Okay.”
His voice was calm as usual as if there was no trace of reluctance.
“What about the documents? Have you thought about Grandpa?”
Nancy nodded. “I’ll tell Grandpa later. He will give it to me. Do you want to go there with me?”
“Yeah, let’s go together.”
After breakfast, they packed their things and drove to the Sallows’ residence.
Uncle Joe and Aunt Gloria were delighted to see them. “Mrs. Sallow, Mr. Jacob Sallow has been talking about you these past two days. I didn’t expect you to come back so soon.”
“Uncle Joe, where’s Grandpa?”
“He is reading upstairs.”
Nancy and Nicholas went to the second floor together. When they reached the door, Nancy looked at him. “I’ll go in and talk to Grandpa first. You come in after he agrees, and I got the certificate.”
“Okay.”
When Nancy entered the room, she found that the room was very dark.
The whole room was dark. The curtains were tightly closed. The only lamp on the bedside was on, revealing a faint light.
For some reason, she had a bad premonition.
“Grandpa…”
“Grandpa, I’m Nancy. I’m here.”
After shouting several times in a row, Nancy didn’t hear a response.
Nancy walked to the bed. She discovered that Jacob was lying on the bed, sleeping with his eyes
closed.
Nancy didn’t want to disturb him, so she turned around and prepared to leave silently, waiting. outside for him to wake up.
Unexpectedly, as soon as he turned around, Jacob’s voice sounded. “Nancy, are you here?”
Nancy immediately turned around and held his hand. “It’s me, Grandpa. You woke up?”
“I’ve been sleeping soundly these days. I have enough sleep. It’s time to wake up. Help me get up.”
“Okay, Grandpa.”
After Jacob got up, Nancy helped him put on his coat and sit beside the sofa.
Outside the window, it began to rain suddenly.
The sound of drizzling rain and fallen leaves seeped into the house through the window, gently calming people.
Nancy immediately turned off the lamp beside the bed and opened the curtains.
The whole room became brighter in an instant. Jacob smiled and sighed. “The world outside is better than in the room.”
“Grandpa, when you get better, we will accompany you wherever you want.”
“Okay. I’m so blessed.”
“Grandpa, I’ll brew some tea. What kind of tea do you want to drink?”
“Earl grey tea.”
“Okay.”
Nancy brewed tea in an orderly manner using a set of tea-brewing tools. She strived for perfection in every step and every movement.
She didn’t know anything about tea-making at first.
The tea-making technique was taught to her step by step by Nicholas.
Although she learned the technique, the essence was still very different.
When Nancy was done brewing the tea, she handed one cup to Jacob and kept one cup for
herself.
The temperature dropped a lot because of the rain. Nancy held the teacup. The smoke was thick. The wind quickly blew the heat away.
Soon, the tea cooled down to the most suitable temperature to drink.
“Grandpa, you can drink it now. Please have a taste.
Jacob took a sip and nodded with a smile. “Not bad. The tea you made is very suitable for me.”
“Grandpa, I know that my tea-brewing skills are average. You always dote on me and praise me.” Nancy smiled sheepishly.
“That doesn’t matter. If I like it, they all have to like it.”
“Grandpa, you are so unreasonable.” Nancy smiled brightly.
She smiled, but her heart felt cold.
Grandpa doted on her and liked her very much.
But what could she do? Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Nicholas was the only exception.
He didn’t love her.
She couldn’t continue deceiving herself.
Suddenly raising her head, Nancy drank all the tea in one gulp.
Bitter.
She felt so bitter.
Of course, the tea was not bitter, but her heart was.
“Nancy, did something happen? Tell me.” Jacob sensitively sensed that something was wrong with
her.
Nancy put down the teacup. She sat on the floor, leaned on Jacob’s lap, and said softly, “Grandpa, I want to ask you something. Can you tell me the truth? I want to know the truth.”
Jacob’s brows twitched as if he had guessed something.
“Nancy, go ahead.”
“Grandpa, when Nicholas married me, did he really marry me willingly?”
Her tears flowed out of control as soon as she opened her mouth. “Grandpa, Madelline told me that Nicholas married me to save her. Tell me, did she lie to me?”
Jacob caressed Nancy’s hair lovingly, sighing deeply
He said slowly, “Nancy, I was indeed threatened Nicholas and forced him to marry you.”
“In the past two years, you hold hands and look like a loving couple every time you go home, but I know you are doing it for me
“During this time, I’ve been thinking about it. Was I wrong? If the person you marry is not Nicholas, you may live a happier life. It’s my selfishness that hurt you.”
Nancy stood up and looked at Jacob, shaking her head vigorously. “No, Grandpa. Nancy has never blamed you. I just want to know the truth. I don’t want to live in a beautiful lie all the time.”
“Grandpa, thank you. If it hadn’t been for you, he and I might not have been married for these two years. We wouldn’t have caten together, ridden in the car together, slept together. There might have been very little chance of talking to each other.”
“Although two years is not long, I am already satisfied. I am delighted I have been able to accompany him day and night for these two years. Perhaps he and I are not destined. I’m tired, and I want to let go, Grandpa.”
Although it was expected, Jacob still sighed and felt very sad when he heard these words.
“Nancy!” Jacob grabbed Nancy’s hand with a slightly rough hand. “Have you thought about it?” “Yeah. Nancy nodded.
Then, she raised her head and smiled brightly at Jacob. She said very firmly, “Yes, Grandpa. I’ve made up my mind.”
“Instead of waiting painfully with regrets, it’s better to let these two years become beautiful memories. Although we couldn’t grow old together, I’m fortunate to be his wife for two years and spend this time with my beloved day and night.”
“Nancy … “Jacob was so moved that tears glistened in his cloudy eyes.
Nancy couldn’t bear it either, but she knew that there was no turning back once it started.
Even though it’s reluctant
And sad…
She had already spoken up. She cannot soften her heart and must persevere relentlessly.
“Well, I will give you another ten minutes. Can you consider it again? Jacob cried. Tears falling uncontrollably along the fine lines on his face.
Nancy also cried. She stretched out her hand and wiped the tears from Jacob’s face.
Then, she hardened her heart “Grandpa, no need Ive thought it through very clearly I decided to let go and grant him freedom”
