Chapter 189 A Final Farewell Amidst the Dead
Avery, visiting such a place for the first time, found the room chillingly cold. The frigid air crept up from
her feet, enveloping her entire body as if countless eyes were watching her back.
Just standing there took all her strength.
"Don't be afraid," Frank's low voice comforted her. Avery, her hands damp with cold sweat, said, "We
want to say goodbye to her."
"Alright, but don't take too long. I'll wait outside."
Once the staff member left, a cold breeze startled Avery into Frank's arms.
He wrapped his arms around her, sighing faintly. "You really aren't cut out for this place. Wait outside Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
for me. I'll be quick."
"But..."
"Dead bodies are nothing new to me. What kind of corpse haven't I seen?" Frank was serious.
Avery insisted on staying, so Frank suggested, "Then don't open your eyes. I'll describe it."
"Okay."
She stepped behind him, focusing on the dark patterns on his black jacket. Feeling his arm muscle flex,
he grasped the lever and pulled it smoothly, revealing the body with a foul stench hitting them.
Avery, already feeling nauseous, gagged.
She tried to look up, but suddenly, a hand covered her eyes.
The warmth of the man's large palm blocked out all the light.
"Don't look," Frank's voice came. "the body... it's quite gruesome."
Avery remembered the mosaic-covered image of Jane in the news, indicating much bloodshed.
But the reality was far worse. Days had passed, and even in the freezer, the body had gruesomely
decomposed.
Frank didn't describe further, letting her long eyelashes tickle the palm of his hand. It was like the
delicate brush of a small animal's soft fur.
Only he could be so detached in front of a corpse.
"What's wrong?" Avery asked.
Frank snapped out of his reverie and said, "Just a moment."
He guided Avery to face another direction and said, "Close your eyes and wait a few minutes."
In the quiet room, the sound of rustling could be heard, prompting Avery to clutch her clothes and ask,
"What are you doing?"
"Checking her body."
Frank's voice was steady, but Avery's legs trembled with fear. Even though she knew he was doing this
to confirm if Jane had aborted the child.
"There are stretch marks on her abdomen. Miscarriages are usually better within the first 1 to 3
months, as by four or five months, the baby is already formed. The presence of stretch marks means
they appeared in the later months; the child wasn't aborted. Wait, let me check further."
Her voice shaking, Avery asked, "How will you confirm?"
"Only stretch marks and no cesarean scars. I need to check her cervix, but it's dim here. Can you shine
a light for me?"
Nearly paralyzed with fear, Avery questioned, "You understand this?"
She was medically trained and understood, but how did Frank know?
"I've studied anatomy. I know a bit. Just close your eyes and shine a flashlight for me."
With her hesitating, he urged in a low voice, "No time to find a medical examiner. We must hurry while
the body is still unprocessed."
Avery nodded. "I understand, but I..."
She turned and caught a glimpse of the body, her stomach churning violently. "Ugh..."
