money for me. I can do that myself. It’s much easier to find a job now than it was a few years ago. I can

work a job during the

day, and I can even be a delivery person at night. I think it shouldn’t be a problem for me to make more

“Alright,” said her father on the other end of the call with a catch in his throat. “Has your mother called?”

Eevonne smiled miserably. “There will forever only be her siblings and their children in my mother’s

eyes and heart. How could she possibly call me?”

Her father was speechless.

“Don’t be sad, Dad. I’ll be hanging up if there’s nothing else. I have something up over here.” Eevonne

saw that the doctor was making rounds, so she hung up the call.

Ever since that time that her father called to ask about her situation, he called her once every day to

check up on her. He would also ask her every day if her mother had

called me. However, until the day that Eevonne was discharged, which meant that a whole week had

passed, Eevonne’s mother never called.

After they went through the hospital discharge process, Kingston could not help but say, “I’ve truly

never seen a mother as heartless as yours. What do you plan to do next? Are you going to get out of

there and find a job or go home to take a look at your mother?”
