Chapter 31
Chapter 31 Trevor did not leave immediately after obtaining the phone number. Instead, he directed his words to Wesley. “I never expected you to be such a good recruiter, President Zurich. You’ve really spared no effort to nurture the newcomers in your company.” Needless to say, Wesley heard the hidden meaning concealed within Trevor’s words. Trevor had seen through his interest toward Emma. Mocking him for sending Emma abroad for training and giving Emma an opportunity to be an independent screenwriter were both based on that very premise. Therefore, Wesley shook his head and smiled. “Mr. Bateson, it would seem that you know nothing about your ex-wife. It’s not that I’m a good recruiter. On the contrary, she is simply so talented that we are willing to give her a chance. When Susanna first introduced Emma to me as a part-time screenwriter, I casually gave Emma a script that needed to bewritten and asked her to produce a rough draft as a test. As a result, the rough draft written by Emma stood out the most from among the works of several amateur screenwriters. What’s more, Miss Dawson immediately took a fancy to her work and came to me saying that she wanted to take Emma on as an apprentice.” A glimmer ofsurprise flashed through Trevor’s eyes as everybody knew that Eleanor hardly ever guided amateur screenwriters. Who could have expected that she was the one who took the initiative to ask to guide Emma? The surprise in Trevor’s eyesdid not escape Wesley’s notice as the man continued, “Emma has always loved literature. She won numerous awards from various composition competitions in elementary school. During her college entrance examinations, she was the top scorer of the liberal arts in Jonestown. When she graduated, she was the top student in the drama and playwriting major.
Even without me or Miss Dawson, she would still be a dazzling new star in the screenwriting world. Of course, if she had not been married to you for those three years, she might be famous by now.” In order to perform her duties asTrevor’s wife, Emma could only work part-time as a screenwriter since she could not devote all her energy and time to creating scripts. Wesley’s words were clearly accusing Trevor of delaying Emma’s career. Trevor was so enraged that he nearly lost his rag. Angrily giving Wesley a cold look, he turned around and left with the phone number held between hisfingers. It turned out that Emma was both the top scorer in the liberal arts and thetop student in the field. Not to mention, she was so talented that Eleanor took the initiative to ask to guide her. Such an excellent past weighed down on Trevor’s heart like a mountain, suffocating him so badly that he couldbarely breathe. It was certainly true that he had no idea she was this outstanding because he had never bothered to seriously get toknow her. At the beginning of his marriage with her, he had been furious with how Emma and herfather had plotted against him. All he felt was a deep sense of disgust and hatred for her. His method of venting those negative emotions was to roughly and forcefully perform sexual intercourse with her. Watching her trembling and crying beneath him gave him an unnatural sense of joy. Although he calmed down afterward, he was already used to being high-handed in front of her allthe time. As such, he was unable to let go of his pride and get along with her through normal means. Hence, it was only natural for him not to understand her. Trevor walked out of Wesley’s office in a distraught state. Crystal walked toward him and reached out to grab his arm in an intimate manner. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
“Have you finished discussing the script with President Zurich?” He responded non-committedly before he added, “Let’sgo. I’ll send you back first.” She pressed herself against his arm and acted in a coy manner. “I don’t want to go back. I want to spend the whole day with you.” that.” It could be said that she knew when to stop,so she changed the topic instead. “Why don’t we have dinner together tonight? It’s been so long since you accompanied me for dinner.” He agreed. “Okay. I’ll ask Theo to contact you after he makes a reservation at the restaurant.” Pressing herself against him, Crystal offered a suggestion. “I want to have steak. Let’s go to that Italian restaurant that we often go to, okay?” Emma was allergic toward beef and multon, hefelt as though his favorite steak dishes were no longer delicious.
