Chapter 393
Chapter 393
Brodie scoffed with a hint of amusement, “Seems to me you and she aren’t even hitched yet, so legally she’s still on the market.”
“What’s your angle? You planning to sweep her off her feet? Don’t forget. She’s smitten with me, pal. To her, you’re nothing more than a childhood buddy.”
“Hearts can change, man. If I want, Clara could be back in my arms before you know it.”
“Brodie, you wouldn’t dare!”
“Dare or not, it’s all down to how true you stay to her. If you slip up, even once, I’ll be right there to whisk her away. Don’t believe me? Just watch and learn!”
Brodie took the call out on the balcony, so no one inside had a clue about the showdown that had just unfolded.
After hanging up, he stood there, silently gazing out the window.
Clara was the girl he’d sworn to protect since they were knee-high to a grasshopper. He wanted her happiness to last forever.
But now, Ian was causing her more pain than he could bear.
Heidi and Sierra were both ticking time bombs.
It was hard for him to picture how Clara would handle the truth if Sierra turned out to be May’s real killer.
Just then, Katherine’s voice called out from behind him.
“Brodie, let’s go check on Ian with Clara.”
He immediately went to the closet, grabbed a coat, and draped it over his mother’s shoulders, gently guiding her. “Take it easy, Mom. Your wound hasn’t fully healed.”
They chatted as they made their way to the elevator.
As the elevator reached the tenth floor, someone came in, pushing a wheelchair.
Katherine instinctively stepped back but tripped over the wheelchair’s wheel.
She stumbled toward the elevator wall.
Teo, quick as a cat, caught Katherine in his arms, saving her from a nasty bump. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
Katherine, enveloped by Teo’s familiar scent, felt her eyes moisten.
She harbored a guilty longing for this man.
She yearned to be near him, to see him.
Teo noticed the reddening at the corners of her eyes and for some reason, his heart skipped a beat.
Even more alarming, a part of him he thought was out of commission showed signs of life.
He looked at Katherine, surprised.
It had been over twenty years since he’d felt this way.
Why now?
Their eyes locked, but the moment was shattered by a chilling voice in the elevator.
“Teo, what’s going on here? I’m not dead yet.”
On hearing this, Teo released Katherine.
He looked up to see Sierra sitting in the wheelchair. Her icy gaze was fixed on them menacingly.
Teo wasn’t guilty, just furrowed his brow. “Who let you out?”
Sierra sneered, “I finally get it. You locked me up so you could play house with this tramp. Teo, old dogs can’t learn new tricks, can they?”
“Shut your mouth!” Teo snapped back coldly. “Sierra, don’t forget what you’ve done!”
Seeing Teo protect Katherine like she was his prized possession made Sierra’s blood boil.
Mad as a hornet, she lurched out of the wheelchair, lunging at Katherine.
“I’ll show you for trying to steal my man, you home-wrecker!”
Katherine, terrified, hid behind Teo. When she finally got a good look at Sierra’s face, her heart stopped.
She stared at Sierra in shock before letting out a blood-curdling scream.
“No, don’t kill me. Don’t do it!”
