Chapter 80: Like A Man Possessed
Kourtney’s eyes widened in surprise and confusion, her mind racing to make sense of his accusation. “Betray you? What are you talking about? I-I don’t get it…”
Sebastian’s gaze bore into hers. His hoarse voice was thick with restrained emotion.
“Are you playing dumb with me, Woman?”
“I… I really don’t understand,” Kourtney stammered with furrowed eyebrows and without any trace of guilt, unaware of the crime she had committed.
Her heart was pounding like bass drums in her chest.
Sebastian’s jaw tensed, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly as confusion clouded his sturdy features.
How could she not know?
It was impossible for her not to have known or heard about the scandal by now since she was in the starring role of it all – so he believed.
The thought that she was trying to play innocent and pretending not to know anything angered him even more, to extreme heights he never knew existed within him.
His breaths came in jagged gasps now as he tried hard to control himself.
He gaped at the woman, thinking if it would be too harsh if he held her by the neck and threw her out from the car window.
Without thinking, he grabbed her hand tightly instead, his eyes burning with intensity.
“”Mmmfffp… Aaahhnn! You’re hurting me, Sebb.”
Tears welled up in Kourtney’s eyes as she tried to break free from his sudden excruciatingly painful grasp.
It was a side of him she had never seen before – a side that both scared and intrigued her.
“What’s really going on?” Her voice wavered slightly, her innocent eyes searching his for answers, but there was none.
“Pleassseeeee…” she whimpered, trying desperately again to pull her arching hand away from his crushing grip.
Ignoring her pleas, Sebastian reached for his phone and shoved it in front of her face. It was displaying the trending photos that had set his blood on fire.
“Does this look familiar to you?” he spat coldly as he glared at her.
Kourtney’s eyes widened as she took in the damning evidence of her perceived betrayal, her breath catching in her throat.
‘Oh, my, God!’
It was a photo of her and Brandon, captured in a compromising position that could easily be misinterpreted.
The realization hit her like a ton of bricks as she recalled the moment with Brandon that morning in the private waiting room of the company. Her heart plummeted as she stared at the incriminating images.
She clenched at her arching chest as if to ease the pain, finally understanding why everyone had been looking at her like she was some dirty linen in public.
‘Who could have recorded this, and why is it on the internet?’ Kourtney wondered in panic, her mind racing to find an explanation.
At this moment, she wished for the earth beneath to open up and swallow her.
Her bright emerald eyes darted between the screen and her husband, who looked almost like a different person with his features twisted in fury.
Her heart ached at the pain evident in his eyes, the hurt that mirrored her own. “Hubby… It’s… that’s… It’s not what you think. I can explain…”
Sebastian’s grip on her hand tightened even further. He could break her bones with just one swift movement, but that would be too little torture compared to what he planned to give her……
“Save it!” he thundered with a deathly growl, making her shudder in fright.
“I…”
“You want to explain why you were pictured in the arms of that scumbag? Is this how you repay me?”
Kourtney’s heart clenched at his words, the weight of his accusation hitting her hard. “Please, just let me explain. It’s not what you think. I swear, it wasn’t what it looked like. You have to believe me. Brandon, he-he was just…” Her voice trailed off, the words catching in her throat as she struggled to articulate the truth behind the misunderstanding.
Sebastian’s expression softened for a moment, a flicker of doubt crossing his features. But then, his walls went back up, and his eyes hardened even more. His words sliced through the air, sharp and unforgiving.
“Shut up! You were in his arms, smiling like a fool.”
“I wasn’t…” Kourtney sniffed.
“I should have known from the start that you were a promiscuous woman. I married a freaking slut!”
Sebastian’s hurtful words were like a dagger to Kourtney’s soul, cutting deep into her core.
The tears that had welled up in her eyes finally started to spill over and betrayed the strength she was desperately trying to hold onto.
The man now saw her as a “promiscuous woman,” a label that felt like a hot branding iron searing her skin.
How could he think of her that way?
How could he think so little of her?
How could he see her in such a degrading light?
She looked deep into Sebastian’s eyes, searching for a glimpse of the tenderness it once showed her, but all she saw was disappointment and DISGUST.
Meanwhile, as Sebastian gazed into her tear-filled eyes, he saw the woman he almost thought he loved, the woman he had planned to probably spend the rest of his life with.
But now, it was hopeless!
Everything was stupid!
He’d been such a fool!
A heavy silence descended upon them before he finally let go of her arm.
But he wasn’t done yet…
With a screech of tires, Sebastian started the car.
Suddenly, he was like a man possessed.
The streets of Melbourne blurred past them as he started driving speedily with reckless abandon, disregarding traffic signs and causing chaos on the road.
His wild and rough driving mirrored the tumult of emotions raging within him.
The vehicle swerved around the gridlock, narrowly avoiding collisions with other automobiles as his anger continued to fuel his actions.
Shocked by the quick turn of events, Kourtney’s heart started pounding heavenly in her chest. She clutched the seatbelt tightly in dread. Each moment was a heartbeat away from disaster.
“Sebastian, please, stop. You’re going to kill us both! Ekkkkk… Please, just listen to me.”
But her words seemed to fall on deaf ears, drowned out by the raging storm inside Sebastian’s heart.
The chaos outside the car mirrored the chaos within his empty soul.
Other vehicles honked in protest, pedestrians running helter-skelter in fear of being hit, and sirens wailed in the distance as the black Rolls-Royce tore through the city streets like a dark shadow.
Kourtney’s body kept trembling as she closed her eyes, resigned to whatever fate awaited her at the end of this harrowing journey.
‘This is it! This is how I’m going to die!’
Hot tears streamed down her cheeks heavily like a rainstorm.
Her breath came in hitched sobs as she braced herself for the inevitable.
But the deadly road trip seemed to be unending….
Sebastian kept driving on and on as he pushed the limits of speed and control.
It felt like he’d lost his goddamn mind. He was like a blood-thirsty and murderous manic.
He wasn’t thinking… he was just driving, recklessly, carelessly, as if that would do anything to ease the pain.
Finally, with a screech of brakes, the car came to a sudden stop in a desolate part of the city. Sebastian’s chest heaved with the force of his outrage. His red and threatening eyes darted to the woman trembling convulsively beside him as if she had just witnessed pure terror from the pits of hell.
And then, in a voice that shattered the last remaining fragments of her heart, he uttered two simple words.
“GET OUT!”
The command hung in the air like a death bell, final and irrevocable, crushing her spirit.
Kourtney stared at him, her eyes wide with shock and disbelief.
She opened her mouth to speak, to plead for understanding, but the look in Sebastian’s eyes silenced her before she could even utter a single word.
With trembling hands, she reached for the door handle and stepped out onto the empty street, the cool air washing over her like a cruel and haunting reminder that she was all alone in this world.
A sister who hated her to the moon and back.
A father who beats her at every chance he gets.
A mother who didn’t prioritize her happiness.
A family who exploited her for their selfish gains.
And now a husband who looked at her with disgust-filled eyes.
Jokes at herself for thinking she finally found someone to be on her side amidst all the hardships in life.
It only took a few photos taken out of context for him to abandon her on the streets like she meant nothing to him.
He was dropping her off in a place that looked like the ghetto area of the city. This odd neighborhood was a stark contrast to the luxury she was accustomed to in the elite areas of the city.
The roads were muddy and filled with dirt, the old buildings looming overhead like ancient giants watching over the desolation below. Rats scurried around like miniature humans, thrash littered the sidewalks, graffiti stained the walls, and the smell of decay hung heavy in the air.
Kourtney watched in horror and blinked out tears as the black Rolls-Royce sped away, disappearing into the distance and leaving her alone in an unknown location.
She found a corner beside an abandoned antique shop, folded herself like a ball, and started sobbing loudly. The knowledge that her husband saw her as nothing more than a cheater sank deeper and deeper into her soul until she felt like she couldn’t breathe.
His harsh words continued to echo in her head.
The damage had already been done, and she knew she would never be able to erase the pain of Sebastian’s accusations from her mind.
She had never felt so alone, so misunderstood, so utterly broken…Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
