Chapter 18 Fever
It was still raining outside, the rain beating hard against the glass window. William stood by the window
and watched the lightning crackling in the sky. His expression was stoic but you can tell he was deep in
thought.
The housekeeper's voice came from behind. "Mr. Montgomery, Toby is on his way to send Miss Lang
home."
William twisted the blinds shut and turned around to face the housekeeper.
The young girl's voice on the phone echoed in his ears for a long time.
"Mr. Montgomery, it's time for you to take your medicine." The housekeeper held the water and the pills.
William thought of something strange after clearing his head. He frowned. "Tell Toby to come see me
when he gets back."
He and Emma broke up 7 years ago. She eloped and got married, went overseas to have children?
What else did he not know about this woman?
He had to figure out everything.

After returning home, Emma went to bed without even washing her face. After sneezing a few times,
her body started to heat up. As a doctor, she knew she caught a cold and was running a fever. But she
had no energy left in her body to get up and take meds.
In a fevery daze, she didn't even know who was talking to her.
"Mommy!"
"Shh, Natalie, Mommy has a fever."
"Ah! What should we do?”
"I'll call Uncle James and ask him what medicine we should buy."
"It's raining outside. I'm going to change my shoes. Nathan, let's go buy medicine for mommy."
The night was very dark and the heavy rain filled the streets and alleys.
At the pharmacy just down the street, the two children grabbed the medicine recommended by Uncle
James and went to the counter to pay.
Natalie wore a pair of pink crocs and had her hair up in two buns. She looked so adorable that the
cashier took out her phone to take a picture.
"That'll be twelve dollars. Where are your parents?"
The cashier glanced behind the two children but didn't see any adults with them.
Nathan lowered his head to grab his wallet from his backpack. Natalie stepped closer to the counter
and said, "We live just across the street in that apartment building, our mom has a fever so we're here
to buy her some medicine. "
It was too late for Nathan to stop her.
Sure enough, the cashier immediately grabbed the two boxes of medicine in front of her. "Kids, the
pharmacy has a rule that we can't sell medicine to children under sixteen. You'd better let the adults
buy them."
"Ah?" Natalie Lang was stunned and her eyes were watery. "But Mommy has a fever!"
"Then let your father buy it."
"We don't have…"
"Natalie," Nathan interrupted his sister and pulled her down from the counter. He gave the cashier a
polite nod.
With Natalie still looking depressed, he pulled her out of the store.
The two of them held their small umbrellas while Nathan reminded his sister, "Natalie, let's try another
pharmacy. This time, tell them our mom is waiting for us in the car."
"Oh, okay."
As they were talking, a male voice came from behind them, "Wait."
The two little children paused, and turned around to see a pair of long legs standing in front of them.
They looked up at the tall man.
The man crouched down slowly in front of them, revealing a handsome face under a black umbrella.
While he looked at them, he handed over a bag of medicine that they were trying to buy from the
pharmacy.
Natalie's eyes lit up and she reached her hand out excitedly. "Thank you! Mr.Handsome!"
"Natalie, don't." Nathan pulled his sister's arm back and looked at the man in front of him with suspicion
in his eyes. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
"Thanks, but we don't need your help Mister."
