Chapter Sixteen
Alexa got home and went upstairs to her room.
She didn’t have a closet full of clothes, shoes, and jewelry, but she sure had some set of fine, decent clothes she once picked from the ‘used clothes’ store.
She picked a white shirt and a red and black striped skirt out.
“This should be decent enough.” She thought out loud.
She made sure the door to her room was locked, removed her clothes, went down the stairs to the bathroom, and took a shower.
She went back up and dried her body and hair before adorning her body with the clothes she picked out.
She wanted to leave her hair down, but knowing it wasn’t dry enough and she didn’t have time to let it dry, she packed it in a ponytail and turned it into a bun above her.
Perfect, now her shirt wouldn’t get wet because of her hair.
She applied just a little makeup.
She didn’t know what to expect and she didn’t wanna look like she was going out to seduce someone with rosy, red lips, she decided to put on nude lipstick.
Next, she picked the perfume she didn’t remember when she bought it and wore just a little. The bottle was halfway already, and not knowing when next she’d have enough money to spare for another, she decided she was going to manage it as much as possible.
She picked out an old pair of white, clean sneakers and slipped them on her feet.
Slinging her purse over her shoulder, she walked out of the room.
She was about to go down the stairs when her brain reminded her of something. Her eyes darted to Jace’s room door.
She promised herself she was gonna make up for hurting him.
With that thought, she jogged down the stairs and outside the door.
The first thing she noticed was that it wasn’t freezingly cold like before… Today it was a little bit sunny.
Then it hit her.
Spring was coming soon.
Just about a week or two away.
But today was warm and it was still Winter.
She shrugged.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“It must be my lucky day.” She decided and ran to the bus station.
Anderson didn’t specify when she should arrive, but she knew it was rude to keep someone waiting and she decided she wasn’t going to spill her punctuality secret (being late no matter how hard she tries) to Anderson on the day she was to get employed… Ughm, supposedly?
She was yet to know whether she was going to get the job or not, so yeah it was on probability.
She got to the bus station, sat down on a bench, and bent over to catch her breath.
She was out of breath from all that running and when she recovered a bit, she checked her Analog wristwatch.
“The bus will be here in about one minute…” She was interrupted by a sound and looked up.
“Oh! The bus is here.” She said loudly and ran to get a seat inside. She knew how important it was to get on as fast as possible because once it was filled… You’d have to wait for another five minutes.
“Finally!” She sighed.
Getting on this bus after lining up was a huge miracle.
In just a few seconds, the line had tripled up before she could get into it. She’d even though she wasn’t gonna get on this one, but as if on Cue, God miraculously made her the last passenger on that particular bus.
… 7 minutes later …
Alexa came down from the bus station where she had dropped off and took a couple of strides.
“Green Company has got to be somewhere around here. It’s huge, I should be able to see it by now, or everything they wrote about it was fak…”
Alexa didn’t get the chance to complete her words because her mouth was wide open like a goldfish’s own.
Standing across her was a gigantic skyscraper. Her eyes darted up, and in the middle, she managed to see the ‘Green Co.’ Sign hung on top.
The sign was so high up she had to bend her head to the down of her neck to be able to read it.
“O. M. G! Tell me I’m dreaming please (sorry babe, you’re not ). How can this all belong to ‘A’ soul alone? It’s so huge!” Alexa exclaimed.
Being invited here was a huge honor indeed.
She never realized it until now.
She waited till the road was clear of any oncoming vehicles before crossing to the other side and when she did find herself on the other side, she found herself beside the huge company and she grinned from ear to ear.
As she got closer to the company’s ‘Welcome’ door, she got nervous.
“I hope I’m dressed well. I don’t want to look like a complete knockout! Why am I even worried? I’m only meeting the secretary.” I thought and calmed down.
‘After which you’re going to meet with Anderson .’ My mind reminded me and I started to fret again.
I tried to pull myself together by inhaling sharply, but when that didn’t work, I decided I was going to turn back.
But alas!
It was too late.
I was already in front of the door and more stupid was the fact that I was staring into the glass door with my teeth chattering and my hands visibly shaking.
“Hey! Are you OK?” A man I didn’t know asked me and I couldn’t process the words I’d tell him, so I just stared blankly.
“Are you cold?” He asked again and this time, I nodded in the negative.
“But you’re chattering and shaking. Gosh! You’re so weird. I’m sure you don’t even work here.” He said in what seemed and sounded like disgust to me and went in.
From what he was wearing, he sure worked here.
“Hey. Hi.” Someone, precisely a lady opened the door from inside and stood in front of me.
Her voice sounded like…
Like that of the person, I talked to on the phone.
Without replying, I just stood in front of her staring blankly… And stupidly.
“You’re Alexa Banks right?” She asked again and I nodded a ‘Yes’.
“Here. Mr. Green told me to give you this.” She said and handed a piece of paper to me.
“It’s his home address.” She added when she saw my hesitation to collect it from her.
I collected it from her and peered into it.
“Thank you.” I smiled at her.
“He also said to give you this.” She brought out a small amount of money from her breast pocket and handed it to me.
“Thanks. Tell him I said thank you.” I told her after collecting the dollar bills.
Normally, I’d have declined, but I had not cash enough to transport me to Anderson’s house, so I gladly collected it.
…..
“Who is she and why’s Becky handing her cash?” Someone who had been watching them from inside the company asked her secretary who was standing just right beside her.
