Chapter 40
Sofia Andrew
I'm happy. I never thought that I'd visit Angel's grandparents' cabin one day and walk hand in hand with him in the village he grew up in. Everything feels surreal. More than that, we are now doing things like what a normal couple would do, like talking and sharing things about each other.
"You looked out of it; do you want to go?" Angel asked me.
I blinked and turned to him. "No, I am enjoying it."
I hope this moment will last.
"I'm happy because Pops has been wanting to see you the past few days. He seems very fond of you."
"And I to him. He's the only one I like in your family," I blurted out before I could stop myself. "Sorry."
"I am aware that my family is a bit... extreme. Dad never really talks to you, and Mom and Angelica aren't that friendly with you."
"I don't know why they dislike me when I didn't do anything to them."
"Do you know that Angelica likes your brand? She has your whole collection, and she's always the first to order your new products."
"I know. I noticed that she's using most of my designs."
"I don't know what she'll do once she finds out that you are the owner," Angel wondered with a chuckle.
I rolled my eyes. "She'll probably shout to the world that the owner is her sister-in-law and that she has everything. Don't be offended, but your sister likes to boast about everything."
"Don't worry, I'm not. I understand what you feel, and I know my sister."
"I am not angry with them or anything. I am tolerating them because they're your family, and I don't want trouble, but sometimes I can't take them."
"Like, what happened at the club?"
"Tolerating them is one thing, but letting myself be humiliated is another, and I won't allow that."
"Children!" Pops shouted from the back, and we turned to him. "I think you should stay the night because it's nighttime soon and it's dangerous to drive back."
My eyes connected with Angel, and I looked away with a blush on my face. We continued walking around until evening when we came back to the house. Angel prepared a dinner for us while Pops and I talked. "Did you think about what I told you earlier?"
"We are starting to build our relationship and trust. I don't want to ruin it, pops."
"Is that what you're worried about, or do you just don't trust him enough to tell him you are the owner of Let-Tech?"
I let out a sigh. "I don't trust him enough to tell him. I'd rather keep it a secret for now."
"Darling, a relationship is based on trust."
"Angel doesn't trust me, pops. He still doubts me, and there's Elisa. I'm still not sure where she is in this story."
""If you're with him, she won't be able to meddle."
I bit my lip in hesitation. "I don't know, pops. It's still new to me. He hated me for years, and now he wants a relationship with me.
"That's normal because your marriage isn't like any other."
"Guys, let's eat!" Angel shouted from the kitchen.
"Just think about what you want to do, okay?" He advised me with a gentle pat on my hands, and I nodded.
"We'll see."
We went to the dining room and sat down to eat. It did not take long for the place to be filled with the sound of utensils and chatter.
When it's time to sleep, Pops says good night and goes to his room first.
"Sofia, we need to sleep in one room because I won't give you one and you won't sleep on the sofa," Angel cheekily told me, and I laughed at him.
"As long as you won't molest me, I have no problem with that."
"Well, you're lucky Pops is in the room next door, or else we'll do our honeymoon."
We climb to the room, and my heart beats louder because we never slept together. We lay down beside each other, and our eyes connected. I found myself getting lost in his dark eyes. What is he thinking? What does he feel at this moment?
Angel confuses me, and I don't know what to think anymore. Is everything real? Does he have any hidden motives? I didn't realize that I fell asleep with so many doubts.
We left the cabin early the next day to go to work because we both didn't want to be absent for two days.
"Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Leffman." The receptionist greeted us when she saw us arrive together.
"Good morning," Angel said, and I greeted her back.
"Why are they looking at us like that? It's bothering me."
"Angel, what does not bother you?" I teased him, and he looked at me with a raised eyebrow. Maybe because it's the first time we came to work together since we switched our positions."
"We are married, so it's normal for them to see us together. I don't like the way they look at us. They should be used to it by now."
"Stop being a snob and bitter and smile a little. If you keep this up, you'll have wrinkles," I suggested, and he smiled. "See? That cost you nothing."
"Maybe because I have a reason to smile." He teased me, and I looked away.
He left my office and went to his own. My shoulders dropped when I saw the mountain of work, and I did not waste any more time.
Diether came in the middle of the day. "How are you, Sofia? Thank God you're here. I want to show you the final details so you can change what you want and verify it. If there's nothing, they will start with the process."
"I saw the design, and if it's like what you showed me, then I like it."
He showed me the final details of the first design that is almost done, and we went back to review everything.
"I like it. This one is sporty, fresh, and convertible. The next one is more formal-looking and serious. For executives per se," I commented and picked up the one that Angel gave to me. "I will edit this one a little and take it home. I will show it to you after, but you may start the presentation to present it in the meeting."
"Do you think they'll approve it?" Diether asked with uncertainty but excitement.
"Of course. You are a great designer, and I don't know why, Angel." I automatically stopped myself. "I mean, he did a good job choosing someone like you."NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.
"I think he's still mad that you took away his position, but he no longer insists on seeing the designs."
"He's not mad. He knows it's the right decision, and it's for our good."
"I trust you because you are the boss, so I'll leave you to it."
When he left, I looked at Angel's design and wanted to change something about it. I want it to be more manly. A car that will represent Angel.
The fact that Angel created the design inspired by Elisa doesn't sit well with me. How can someone be in love and the next day decide that he likes me?
I shook my head and slapped my face. "Sofia, stop thinking about it. You asked Angel for trust and no more lies, so you should believe him, even if he has bipolar disorder."
I received a call from Isaac, and I got worried. Is there something wrong with the company?
"Hi, Isaac. Good morning, or should I say afternoon?"
"How is my beautiful boss? Anyway, I want to give you some information. First, Harry asked for another appointment. Second, I forgot to mention it to you because we got busy. I find it weird that Angel's lawyer is the owner of Autos-Let."
God, he's still insisting? Angel is really persistent.
"You don't need to worry about that and say no. My decision still hasn't changed even now."
"Okay, let's change the topic. I have something about Elisa."
At the mention of the witch's name, I became interested.
""Good news, please."
"Well, even I'm not sure if it's good or bad, but it wasn't easy to get.'
"Let's see what you have."
"Elisa had an Arab boyfriend, and they were engaged, but a week before, the wedding was canceled. You owe me one because this is hard to get, but it looks like Elisa was the one at fault."
"She was getting married. How long was this?"
"More or less four months ago. She spent the last five years traveling in three countries or more, and she was involved with men younger than her, and they all came from prestigious families. Her last country was London, and it's what, six months ago before she came home." "Wait, you told me she's getting married to an Arab and she broke up with him four months ago, but she's in London for six months? Are you sure about your information?"
"Of course. It's confirmed, and everyone knows I don't show anything unless I've confirmed it myself." Isaac defended himself.
"Her boyfriend's in London. The question is, when did she break up with him?"
"My source told me that she was in London to shop for her wedding dress, but she never really did. Strange, right? I was also told that she went out with someone while they were still engaged." It's Angel, isn't it? "But they broke up a month before she came back." "Okay, I don't understand, Isaac. Didn't they go to London together?"
"According to the information, the man gave her a hefty sum, and she gave the alibi that her dad was in a critical condition and she needed to go back home, so they broke up.
"I didn't know that her dad was in that condition. Even if he's sick, they don't need the money because they have a good position in the business world. What else do you have?"
"I have one more, but I don't think you'll like it."
Tell me about it," I said.
"Elisa and Angel were also seen in London." I knew that, but it still hurts to hear. "A few times. They went out in public. Is that why you had her investigated? Do you think they have something?"
"Elisa is a former colleague and Angel's ex. Before their meeting in London, have they met of anything?"
"My source cannot find that, but I can dig deeper and find out for you."
"I want to know whatever she did for the past five years."
"That might take some time, but I'll still take it for you. Oh, I forgot to mention that they were spotted together a few times after she came home, and I repeat that it's nothing compromising. She's also seen with his family."
"Yes, she's often with his family, and they share the same attitude and capriciousness."
"Amelia also told me that," Isaac told me with a chuckle.
"Where does Elisa live, and who did she come with when she came home?"
I am dying to know if she set foot in our house. As cold and ugly as it is, it's still been our house for the past five years. Even if Angel kicked me out for her,
"She lives with her parents and brother. She spent most of her days shopping. Sometimes she's alone, with Angel's family or with her own. The identities of the younger men she's with are still unclear. That woman's life is boring and meaningless." "Did she ever step on my house?"
"Do you think Angel will take her home?" At his question, I realized that I asked it out loud. "No, I can guarantee you that she hasn't been to your house."
"It's okay, Isaac. You did a good job. Please give me that information as soon as you can; I need something from that woman. Also, find out what happened to the Arab because I'm interested to know. Thank you."
"I'll do whatever you ask of me, and you don't need to thank me because you are paying for my services. I'll have what you ask for as soon as I can."
He ended the call and left me with my thoughts.
Elisa is crazy. Asking for money for her father doesn't make sense. She broke up with her boyfriend while Angel was in London, but he told me that he didn't break the fidelity clause, so I needed to believe him. Plus, she hasn't stepped into the house. "Sofia!" I heard someone screaming my name, and I was snapped out of my thoughts to see Angel.
"What? Why are you shouting at me?"
"I've been talking to you earlier, and your mind is elsewhere. I wanted to ask you if you'd like to go out with me for lunch."
"Oh, lunch, yes, but we can't take too long because I have lots to do."
"Are you alright? You don't look well."
Six months ago, you were with your girlfriend touring around London, and you came back asking for a divorce. You asked me to leave the house because you two got back together, and now you're interested in me out of nowhere? "I'm alright. I'm just trying to solve some issues."
"Do you need help?"
I packed my bag and stood up. "We better go get that lunch. Should we go to the club?"
I can't help but doubt and question things. I want to give him my trust, but five years aren't that easy to forget. I think I'm entitled to doubt his feelings and actions, even if the past few days have been my happiest.
