I Want A Lifetime With You Chapter 393

“What? You…”

Color drained from Shi Wei’s face as she stared at Shi Nuan with utter disbelief on her face. “How can you…” How can she do this to me?

Since when did she become so cunning and unpredictable?

Shi Wei was staring at Shi Nuan with so much bewilderment in her eyes. It was as though she was looking at a monster. “How can you do that? Our conversation should be private!” Shi Wei hadn’t been thinking at all before she spoke out of anger.

Oh, crap!

What will happen if Fu Chengyan heard everything I said just now?

Shi Wei’s eyes flickered with fear. At the sight of Shi Nuan’s triumphant face, her expression turned increasingly churlish. “You tricked me into this! Shi Nuan, you’re despicable!”

“I didn’t try to trick you at all. It’s not like I’m going to gain any benefit by sabotaging you,” Shi Nuan snorted disdainfully. “Look, Chengyan can’t stand being away from me for too long a time because he will start to miss me. So, I should really get going. As for you, please feel free to stay at the washroom for as long as you like.”

Shi Nuan then kept her phone back in her bag. Throughout the process, she maintained a calm and collected expression. When she spun around to make her way back to the private room, a crooked smile emerged on her face. Somehow, her mood was lifted when she thought of the devastated expression on Shi Wei’s face.

Meanwhile, inside the private room of Yun Shui Jian, Fu Chengyan switched on the hands-free mode as soon as he received Shi Nuan’s call just now. Therefore, everyone was able to listen to the

conversation between Shi Nuan and Shi Wei.

Shi Jingzheng’s face looked extremely grim. There were many times when he felt like lunging forward to yell at Shi Wei and ask her to shut her mouth. However, he dared not even stand – Fu Chengyan’s aura was simply too intimidating.

Fu Yuqing was wearing a similarly ominous expression. Although he did not let his emotions show, he was secretly cursing Shi Wei for saying those things to Shi Nuan.

To his chagrin, Shi Wei turned out to be just as dumb as her mother, Jiang Yu. Both of them were only great at screwing things up.

If it were not because Shi Wei owned the shares of her family business, Fu Yuqing would not have allowed someone as stupid as her to become his daughter-in-law. Indeed, only a smart woman like Shi Nuan had what it took to deal with stuff as important as this.

In fact, Fu Yuqing only resorted to Shi Wei after finding out that Shi Nuan was not favored by her parents. The woman did not own any shares of the family business of the Shi family either. Little did he know that Shi Nuan would turn out to be the biggest winner in the end.

Her husband, Fu Chengyan, was a man who was admired by the people of Jiang City. Plenty of prestigious families in the city were desperate to marry their daughters to Fu Chengyan so that they could form a bond with him. To everyone’s disappointment, Fu Chengyan had ended up marrying a woman who had no powerful background, nor a gorgeous face.

Only then did Fu Yuqing realize the truth behind Shi Nuan’s background. No wonder the people of the Shi family had always neglected her and reserved more and better resources for Shi Wei. It was because Shi Nuan was not Shi Jingzheng and Jiang Yu’s daughter at all!

In the meantime, Fu Chengyan put his phone down and started drumming his slender fingers on the table, his expression remaining calm and collected. Compared to the others at the table, his composure looked very much out of place.

Fu Xicheng was unable to keep his cool as perfectly as Fu Chengyan. Under Fu Chengyan’s domineering aura, the man was self-conscious and insecure. He was so spooked to hear the conversation between Shi Nuan and Shi Wei that he fervently hoped that a crack would suddenly appear on the ground to swallow him.

“Uhm… Mr. Fu, Wei is just…”

Before Fu Yuqing could finish his sentence, the door to the private room opened. It was Shi Nuan, who strutted into the room with a faint smile on her face. Sensing the tension in the air, she wondered with amusement on her face, “What’s the matter? Why isn’t anybody enjoying the food?”

She then walked over to the table and sat down beside Fu Chengyan. A trace of surprise flashed in her eyes when she spotted his phone on the table.

In fact, she did not have much of a plan when she left for the washroom just now. It was only her habit to be extra vigilant, knowing that Shi Wei would always be up to some sort of mischief whenever she had a private encounter with her. Despite that, there were times she would still be caught off guard.

Therefore, Shi Nuan had learned her lesson by preparing a backup plan every time she met Shi Wei in private. This time, calling Fu Chengyan was that.

Indeed, she did speak certain things and behaved in a certain way just now, intending to infuriate Shi Wei. Yet, it never occurred to her that it was so easy to make Shi Wei could lose her cool. Shi Wei was capable of saying anything with the right amount of provocation.

Never in her wildest dreams would she have imagined that Shi Wei would blurt out the secret of her background just like that. All the while, she had assumed that her secret was known to only Shi Jingzheng and Jiang Yu. She did not expect them to have shared it with Shi Wei. Upon knowing that her sister was aware of it too, Shi Nuan finally realized why Shi Wei had been picking on her ever since they were little. As the three of them had never truly seen her as their family, they did not feel bad to sabotage her.

After sorting everything out in her head, the truth suddenly seemed more acceptable to Shi Nuan. At least, not only was she not upset about it at all, but she also even felt relieved.

Since Shi Wei had revealed that secret to everyone, it was time for Shi Nuan to stop pretending to be friendly with them. She was no longer part of the Shi family, so it followed naturally that she was no longer obligated to help them or even Fu Yuqing’s family out.

Realizing that, she bet both Shi Jingzheng and Fu Yuqing must have regretted their decision to bring Shi Wei along to the dinner.

Suddenly, Shi Nuan found herself in a much better mood. She ignored the ominous faces of the others at the table and started scooping food into her bowl with relish.

Reassured by how unaffected Shi Nuan’s mood was and how brilliantly she had dealt with the trouble, Fu Chengyan did not see the need to do anything on his part. He did not have to interfere, knowing well that Shi Nuan was capable of solving things on her own.

He had a lot of confidence in her.

Fu Chengyan then reached for his phone and took it back. He studied the face of everyone at the table furtively. The sight of their sulky expressions was such a great mood enhancer for him.

Then, he picked up his chopsticks and started putting food into Shi Nuan’s bowl. Everyone else was at a loss of what to do while Fu Chengyan and Shi Nuan were having a good time in their own bubble. Obviously, the couple did not share the unrest and discomfort of the rest. At the end of the dinner, the Shi family, as well as Fu Yuqing, did not utter a word. They knew it was an inopportune time to propose any business ideas to Fu Chengyan after what had happened just now.

At last, Shi Nuan and Fu Chengyan turned out to be the only ones who enjoyed the feast. The rest had long lost their appetite because they couldn’t help but be on tenterhooks in Fu Chengyan’s presence. Everyone was in a trancelike state, even when Fu Chengyan summoned the restaurant manager over to pay the bill. They did nothing but watch as Fu Chengyan left together with Shi Nuan.

The oppressive atmosphere in the room finally eased up after their departure. As soon as everyone registered the change of events, Shi Jingzheng couldn’t hold himself back from slapping Shi Wei. “You bastard! Do you have any clue how grave that blunder you just made is!”

“Dad!” Covering her cheeks, Shi Wei’s ears were ringing, and she was left petrified. Staring at Shi Jingzheng with a look of utter disbelief, she exclaimed, “I can’t believe you just slapped me!”

“Shouldn’t I? What did I tell you before we came? I asked you to control your temper and not to get into a fight with Shi Nuan. But what happened in the end?” Shi Jingzheng was infuriated to see Shi Wei being unrepentant of her mistake. “Do you have any idea what a horrible mistake you just made? Fu Chengyan! Is he somebody we can afford to offend? Shi Nuan has become a different person since she married Fu Chengyan, and it’s obvious how much she means to him. How could you curse their relationship just now?”

“I… Even though I did make a mistake, you shouldn’t have slapped me because of Shi Nuan! You’ve never done that to me, ever! What makes Shi Nuan so special? She’s nothing but an orphan who doesn’t even know who her parents are! What makes her think she can steal my thunder?”

Shi Wei continued to yell, “What has she done to deserve the love of Fu Chengyan? It’s so obvious that she isn’t good enough for someone like him!”

“Who is, then?”

Once again, the door to the private room was opened. Fu Chengyan was standing at the door, watching Shi Wei with an extremely somber expression. “Ms. Shi, why don’t you tell me who you think deserves my love?” Shi Wei’s heart lurched when she saw his ominous expression paired with his flinty stare.

None of them had anticipated Fu Chengyan’s return. Did he catch anything we said just now?

All of a sudden, Shi Jingzheng felt as though it was the end of the world. “Yan…”

“Please, only my wife calls me that, Mr. Shi!” Fu Chengyan did not call Shi Jingzheng ‘Father’ like how he did just now. At that instant, Shi Jingzheng was sure that they had really offended Fu Chengyan for good this time. In a quivering voice, he ventured, “Mr. Fu… about that…”

Fu Chengyan narrowed his eyes dangerously. Ignoring the rest of them, he entered the room and took Shi Nuan’s handbag that was on one of the seats. At a steady pace, he walked back to the door and stopped there. “In Jiang City, Shi Nuan’s name is deemed equal to mine. I believe all of you should know well how I treat people who have offended me. If you guys aren’t sure what I’m talking about, I suggest you ask those two friends of yours, Ms. Shi. I’m pretty sure they’ll be more than willing to share their miserable experience with you!”

“You…”

Shi Wei stumbled several steps backward as her face turned as pale as a sheet. “Su Su and Anna… It was you!”

Fu Chengyan smirked. “There aren’t many people in the world who are important enough to be worthy of my effort. They aren’t one of them, and the same goes for you!”

After saying that, he gave everyone else at the table a scan with his penetrating gaze. “This is the last time you guys will meet us together. Next time, just come straight to me if any of you want to meet me. There’s no need to go through May because she doesn’t have the time nor the mood to entertain all of you here!” He lifted his hand in the air and bellowed, “Zhou Zheng!”

Zhou Zheng immediately strode into the room. “Yes, Mr. Fu!” Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

With a crooked smile, Fu Chengyan instructed, “They are May’s foster parents. They took care of her for years, so please help me write up a check. I’m going to appreciate their effort on May’s behalf!”

“Yes, Mr. Fu!” Zhou Zheng nodded in acknowledgment with reverence. After Fu Chengyan marched out of the room, Zhou Zheng fished out a check from his briefcase and handed it to Shi Jingzheng. “Mr. Shi, here you go!”
