I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 10

Will You Go Back to Your Ex?

Harper looked up at Benjamin and replied, "Yes, I've told them."

"Why didn't you discuss it with me first?" He asked, his expression displeased, revealing a mix of complex emotions.

Harper pondered, "Why is Benjamin reacting so strongly about this? Is it because I took it upon myself to inform the Mitchell family about our divorce?"

She replied, "I don't see why we need to discuss this. Aren't we supposed to finalize the procedures on Monday? Since that's the case, informing my family shouldn't affect you, right?"

"Are you in such a hurry to sever ties with me?" Benjamin questioned with a frown.

Harper was momentarily taken aback and was utterly confused by his words.

With a resigned smile, she asked, "Benjamin, have you forgotten that you were the one who suggested the divorce?"

Harper thought scornfully, "It's he who is eager to sever ties."

Benjamin's brows furrowed deeply, his expression heavy with emotion as he spoke in a stern tone, "There was no need to rush. We could have waited until the divorce was officially finalized. Your parents have already informed my grandpa. We need to go back to the Martin Manor later."

Harper helplessly chuckled to herself and pondered, "So his pressing questions were because Paul found out about our divorce and disrupted his plans. I really have been deluding myself. Benjamin indeed wants a divorce, it's just that he doesn't want any obstacles stopping him."

She took a couple of deep breaths and said calmly, "Don't worry. I'll explain everything to Grandpa. He cares about me a lot, so he'll definitely agree."

Benjamin narrowed his eyes and looked at Harper's expression, which was composed and without a trace of reluctance. His expression then grew even grimmer as he felt an inexplicable wave of displeasure stirring inside him, leaving him feeling conflicted.

He thought restlessly, "I don't understand how someone can change so quickly. Before I brought up the divorce, Harper was gentle and caring toward me. We always treated each other with respect, and we never fought or have any conflicts. But since I mentioned divorce yesterday, she has been nothing but sarcastic and cold. Is it just because I was the first to suggest divorce?"

Observing Harper's stunningly beautiful face, Benjamin felt as though it was veiled in mystery. He had always known she was beautiful, a reigning socialite in their circle of friends, elegant yet unassuming, and never ostentatious. Yet, Harper possessed a captivating allure that made people pause and remember her at first sight.

He couldn't help but wonder about Harper's ex-boyfriend and what kind of man he was to have her willing to sacrifice her marriage for him.

Benjamin and Harper had made it clear when they got married that he was doing it to appease Paul, while she was doing it to completely break ties with her ex-boyfriend.

This thought had crossed Benjamin's mind more than once, but now it left a discomforting taste.

His jaw tightened, and he spoke in a deep and hoarse voice, "Harper, will you go back to him after we divorce?"

Harper paused for a moment, not quite understanding Benjamin's implication in his words. Once she realized what he meant, her expression grew colder. "No, I won't." "Why?" He asked.

She replied, "There's no reason. Since we've already parted ways, why would we get together again? Besides, for all I know, he might have moved on to someone else by now." Harper's demeanor was calm as if she were merely discussing someone else's affairs.

Benjamin kept his gaze fixed on her, not wanting to miss any emotion on her face. He asked, "He didn't want to break up with you back then, right? Maybe he's still waiting for you." She shrugged. "People change. No one stays in one place waiting forever, right?"This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.

Her words also served as a reminder to herself.

She mused, "If pursuing didn't lead to any results, why continue?"
