Chapter 822
Chapter 822
“Rebellion?" A frosty smile made its way across Ryder’s face, "So what is rebellion? I had feelings for
Agnes before you did. I stepped back once, took a hit for your sake, but Uncle, what about you? The
pain you've put her through these past four years has only reinforced my resolve to take her away from
you. I may be a step behind again, but this time, I'm not backing down. I'm going to fight for what I
want, and I'm ready to pay any price. You better brace yourself because I will stop at nothing, and I
won't go easy on you."
Ryder's words were icy and deliberate, but Jared could see he meant every single one.
"You've lost your mind." Jared had no interest in a drawn-out conversation with Ryder. He went straight
over and scooped Agnes into his arms.
She let out a faint hum. And then, finding a comfortable spot in Jared's embrace, she drifted off to a
deep sleep.
Jared made a move to exit, but just as he got to the doorway, he abruptly came to a halt. Cradling
Agnes in his arms, and without turning around, he warned over his shoulder, "Don't test my limits.
Remember, you learned all your tricks from me."
With that, Jared carried Agnes away.
He secured her in the car, a surge of anger burning within him as he saw her unconscious state.
Agnes stirred slightly.
Resting against the window, she squinted out with a drowsy gaze. "Where are we?"
"Do you even realize what you've done today?" Jared's voice was laced with barely contained fury.
But like a child, Agnes struggled to recollect and then suddenly laughed. "I think I had a lot to drink."
"You remember that much," Jared snorted.
"I remember that alcohol is the world's greatest gift," Agnes said. "Drinking it makes you forget all your Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
troubles."
"Didn't I tell you not to drink when you're out on your own? Don't you know your limits?" Jared's voice
was stern.
Agnes forced her eyes open wider and glanced at the icy source beside her. "Such a nuisance."
Jared's fingers tightened on the steering wheel.
She dared to call him a nuisance.
The anger he'd been suppressing was on the verge of breaking free, but then, Agnes suddenly
exclaimed with delight, "Honey, what are you doing here?"
The term of endearment was like a bucket of cold water, extinguishing all the rage in Jared's heart.
"So you still remember I'm your husband," Jared retorted, still irritated.
Agnes wrapped her arms around him. "Of course, I remember. Jared, you're my husband, and my
husband is Jared. I've missed you so much these past years. But you've been so petty, not even
showing up in my dreams."
A sweet warmth blossomed within Jared's heart. All of a sudden, he found he didn't have it in him to
chide her anymore.
"Don't think a few sweet words will get you off the hook for drinking," he warned.
Agnes leaned into Jared's shoulder. "Jared, I love you, I really, really love you." Her voice trailed off into
a whisper.
Jared turned to look at her—she had fallen asleep again.
He sighed deeply. Well, he had lost even the right to be angry.
