Fated is overrated

Chapter 60

Lola

POV

He leads me to the small office across from the one we were in, and

closes the door behind us. "You can drop the nice guy act now. What do you want? And before you think of threatening me or coming at me - think twice, I bite back now". I state coldly, with Liberty pushing forward and making my eyes pitch black to showcase we aren't joking around.

I never attacked back at Red Dagger as I was outnumbered and didn't have a wolf yet, whilst they did. So they were all a lot stronger than I was, despite my training, and healed a lot faster than I did. But having my wolf now and having survived all that I have, I am not backing down for anyone anymore when it comes down to having to fight.

Chris sighs heavily. "I don't want to threaten or come at you at all Lola, it wasn't an act. I have realized in the past weeks what an idiot I have been all these years and how badly I have treated you and allowed you to be treated. I know it probably doesn't mean anything and I don't deserve your forgiveness, but I want you to know I am truly sorry.

For everything, but first and foremost, for the last thing I did to you. Or well - tried to do" he looks down shamefully. "I feel so ashamed, I don't know what got over me Lola...

"You are right, you don't deserve my forgiveness, not even in the slightest. What you tried to do was beyond despicable. And to think you were once my best friend, Chris! To think you were the only one besides my mother who I trusted. The only one besides her who I loved. To think I once even hoped we would be mated. Oh, the irony!"

I snort, thinking back, with the knowledge I have now. "You went beyond betraying my trust, Chris" I continue in a stern voice, but I can't help the hurt that seeps through my voice. He was the second one to discard me like a piece of trash, like I meant nothing. Chris drops his head again, replying in a soft, meek voice "I know Lola.. I have been replaying everything I have done to you ever since I shut you out up until the last thing I did to you over and over in my mind in the past 2 weeks. I shouldn't have taken my frustrations regarding my mother out on you.

Or on any other woman to be fair. Although almost all women out there do live up to my views of being gold digging wh*res, just like my mother. I know it's not an excuse, Lola.

I know you, and I know you are nothing like that, I was just too hurt to see it. I made myself believe you would eventually leave me as well, and that it was better for me to shut you out myself, rather than get hurt as badly as I saw my father be.

You are the only woman I have ever loved Lola, and I am deeply sorry for all I've done". I've always known it had something to do with his mother, and I already suspected he was afraid of getting hurt. But that didn't make it sting any less, that didn't make it right. He didn't even give me a chance. Zeke POV

It has been a while since Chris and the rogue left for the other office. Zane and I have gotten curious and although we can't do it right now with the Alpha, Beta and Delta in the room, we will definitely check the hidden camera footage of the other office later. We are dying to know what was said between the 2. Not that the rogue interests us - we are interested as to why on earth Chris would plead with her, and actually go so far as to beg her to talk with him privately. We have always believed Chris was an OK guy and a good soon to be alpha, for a normal werewolf that is.

But as we watched him gravel at her feet we were in shock - no man should ever do that for a woman, but imagine an Alpha doing it!

The men in front of us seem to be stunned as well, first and foremost Chris' father, the current Alpha, Culio. He finally manages to regain his composure and asks "your highnesses if I may ask, how has Lola been found and where?".

In formal settings such as these, Zane lets me do the talking, so I step forward. "She was found by our guards near our border. She was running from and fighting off 5 rogues.

She and one of the rogues were brought in for questioning". Alpha Culio turns pale at the realization she was in unclaimed land, although he must have known she was as she wouldn't have been able to cross pack borders.

"Dear goddess, your guards arrived just in time then, poor child. If I may ask, why was only 1 rogue brought in for questioning and not all of them?". As the question left his mouth, the door pops open and Lola storms back in, Chris not yet in sight. Alpha Culio takes us all by surprise when he marches over to Lola and embraces her in a tight hug. "Dear child I am so happy you are OK" right before Chris walks back in.

She hesitantly returns the embrace briefly, before nodding and stepping back with a small smile. Now that alpha Culio mentions it - I also don't know why only 1 rogue beside her was brought back in. It seems strange to me, so I decide to confront the rogue in front of me.

"So, rog- ehhh Lola. We were just discussing how you were found and brought in by our guards, when Zane and I realized we hadn't been informed of the exact circumstances yet. We understood you were being chased by 5 rogues - why was only 1 brought in for questioning?".noveldrama

Her gaze turns deadly when redirecting towards me. I am not sure if it is about the question or about the fact that we have invited her pack leadership despite her clear wishes not to do so. Her voice is cold as ice and sounds deadly when she replies with a glint in her eyes. I can't decipher,

"I butchered 2 of them, and the other 2 were killed by your guards before I had a chance to". She looks straight into my eyes when speaking, and I can read between the lines and pick up the message she is smart enough not to say out loud.

'Did she just... Threaten us?' 'oh yeah..' I reply to Zane, chuckling in my mind. 'She has some balls for a weakling without a wolf, to be indirectly threatening the most powerful Lycans out here' Zane says, seething. "We'll show her her place soon enough if today's plan doesn't work brother, don't you worry'.

All the men before us look dumbstruck, before Chris asks "what? How did you kill 2 rogues on your own?? And while being chased by 3 others too?".

She grins widely now whilst giving Chris the same death stare she gave me. "I dropped the first one into a trap across the border as he got squashed to mashed wolf" she pauses, grinning even wider as if she is reminiscing a beautiful occasion," and the second one got filleted into little wolf steaks when I launched him onto a land mine. And for the record.." she turns her gaze back to Zane and me, and looks me straight in the eye again.

"The one that is now being questioned I would have choked to death would your guards not have stopped me".

Zane and I can't help the low growl erupting in our chest as she again indirectly threatens us. But to my surprise, the weakling without a wolf doesn't even flinch nor avert her gaze.

'How come she is not affected by our aura? Do you think it is because she doesn't have a wolf?' Zane links me. 'It must be, although normally it still affects those who don't, I see no other reason it shouldn't affect her.
