Surprise
“Stay clear of my life if you will not be of any help to me. And this should also be the last time you call me names. Get away from me!” Demelza spat in so much annoyance and walked out leaving Nathan in shock. Nathan swiftly moved towards her and grabbed her by the hand, stopping her from going back into the restaurant. He pulled her back to the same spot they were before she walked away and pinned her to the wall.
He knew Demelza was out spoken but not to the point of her being able to challenge him. He stood there flabbergasted with his hand on his chin.
“Get your hands off me,” Demelza spat, struggling but she could not move much.
She struggled for a bit until she was able to free one hand. She tried slapping him again but this time he was fast enough to hold her back.
“You must be enjoying this.” he said, referring to the slap.
“Leave me alone.” Demelza said.
“Listen carefully because I am only going to say this once. Do not associate yourself with that man. Do it for both your good,” Nathan warned her strictly which really got to her.
After finally letting her went to his car and zoomed off while she just stood catching her breath before going inside.
Demelza felt sad for the rest of the day which made her dull at work. She did not converse with any of her co-workers nor did she open up to any of them even though she could feel their eyes threatening to bite a hole at the back of her head.
Finally, working hours were over and she made her way home using a taxi.
When she got inside the house, she noticed her stepmom seated in a jolly mood and the fact that she wasn’t supposed to be home until Sunday made her curious. She raised am eyebrow up and walked towards Harriet.
“Good evening, ma,” Demelza greeted her.
“Evening, darling.” Harriet responded with a very wide smile.
“Okay? Wanna share what all this about?” Demelza asked her, using her hands to gesture at Harriet’s smiling face.
“You won’t believe what happened today, can you guess?” Harriet said to her.
“I have no idea, I’m dying to hear already. Can you tell me.” Demelza asked, becoming impatient.
“Well, the bank called me and informed me that_” she paused to create suspense for Demelza who was eager to hear what she had to say.
“Don’t do this, tell me already,” Demelza begged, giggling.
“Someone made a generous deposit into our account. The very account we save in.” Harriet said, finally hitting the hammer on the nail.
“You’re joking,” Demelza said with her eyes wide.
“I am not, why else will I be home mid week?” Harriet asked her.
“Oh my God. How generous?” Demelza asked curiously.
“Overly generous. So generous we have to go to the bank tomorrow,” Harriet responded.
Demelza jumped for joy, feeling so excited but then Harriet asked her a question.
“Who do you think sent the money?” Harriet asked and the only person Demelza could think of at that time was Nathan’s sister.
Demelza decided to call Nathan’s sister and thank her for giving her the opportunity to be able to afford a good lawyer.
“I need to freshen up,” Demelza told Harriet and hastened to her room.
She took her time to take her bath and put on clean clothes to relax.
While on her bed with her thoughts all over the place, she stood up to pick Allison’s card from her drawer. She held on to it and looked at it for a few minutes. She clicked her tongue and began dialing Allison’s number.
“Good evening, I’m sorry for calling so late but I couldn’t leave it until tomorrow,” Demelza apologized over the phone
‘Evening, who am I talking to?’ Allison responded.
“Oh, I’m sorry. This is Demelza.”
‘Damnn, I should have recognized your voice. Although it sounded familiar.’ Allison chuckled softly.
“I’m sorry for calling so late, but I really needed to thank you for the money you sent. It’ll gonna go a long way and I really do appreciate it.” Demelza said.
‘Oh, dear. What kidney are you talking about?” Then without waiting for a response, she continued. “Sorry, I wasn’t the one who sent it.’ Allison told her.
“I really thought you were the one, you were the only one I thought could do that,”Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
‘Good people still exist, I bet if you think harder you just might think of someone. Either way, it was nice hearing from you. I hope we talk again.’ Allison said.
“I hope we do. Goodnight, Allison.”
‘Goodnight, Demelza’ Allison said and ended the call.
With that, Demelza started brain storming but nothing came to her mind. She decided she as going to go to the bank with Harriet the next morning to find out who sent such hug amount of money.
It felt like such a long day, so she turned off her bedside lamp and went to sleep immediately.

“Another day,” Demelza groaned from the sound of her alarm. Due to what happened the previous day, she wanted to sleep in and maintain whatever sanity she had left but the thought of work and having to the bank made her roll her eyes that were barely open.
She dragged herself out of bed and prepare for the day. She went to work first and then took permission to go to the bank.
The bank was about thirty minutes from the restaurant so it didn’t take her long to get there. Finally there, she walked in fast as she had limited time.
She made an inquiry about the deposited fund but they refused to give her any information insisting the sender maintained it should all be anonymous.
She instantly felt bad because she could not thank whoever it was that helped her being that was such a large amount of money.
She walked out of the bank and hurriedly made her way back to work.
Her heart felt pierced the instant she saw Nathan with the same girl from the other day, in the restaurant, smiling happily.
Would he ever smile at her like that? Never! Ever!
