*At the police station*
I sat in a room, waiting anxiously and impatiently for someone to attend to me. What the police man had told me when I was getting arrested felt like a joke to me. How or why the hell would I murder my own parents??
After waiting for some time, the door finally opened and a detective came in.
“I am detective Malcolm and I know who you are so there’s no need for any futher greetings nor you standing.” He said to me when I wanted to stand.
I listened and remained in my seating position. He finally came to where I was. He placed a laptop on the table and came towards me. He removed the cuffs on my hands before he sat on the chair that was facing me.
“I’m sure you are aware of the reason you’re here miss.” The detective said.
“Yes, I am. But there seems to be a humm… a mistake.” I answered.
“How so?” I sucked in a deep breath.
“There’s no way that I could have murdered my parents. I wasn’t even at my parents’ home that day.” I explained.
“I see.” He said as he nodded his head in understanding. I smiled, happy that he was understanding my point.
“From what I know, you weren’t at your house either. Where were you?” He asked.
“A party.” I answered.
“When did you get back?” He asked again.
“The next morning.”
“You mean you stayed at a party till the next morning?” He asked again like he didn’t believe me.
“I didn’t say that. On my way back from the party, the car I was on broke down so I couldn’t get home that night. On my way home the next morning, that was when I got the call and I rushed to my parents’ home immediately.” I explained.
“Okay. But you see, we’ve gotten evidence that proves all your statements are false.” He said making me furrow my brows.
“Evidence? What evidence?” I asked in surprise.
“Here….” He turned his laptop to face me.
“This is a footage taken from a car’s dash camera opposite your parents’ house.” He said as he played the video.
There, I saw myself sneaking into the compound. I broke the lock before I finally entered into the house. What the hell!!
“Why would I break into my parents’ house if I have the key to it besides, does breaking and entering also mean I’m responsible for their deaths?” I asked as I stared at him like he was crazy.
“Okay, what about this?” He asked as he clicked on another video.
It seemed like it was taken from a phone. It showed me, dressed in the same clothes but this time, I was in the house. I put on the gas but didn’t light any fire on it.
Then, it showed me leaving the house. After some time, ‘I’ threw a lighter that was on into the house, making it explode. I almost screamed when I saw that.
I knew I wasn’t the one, it was obviously edited but watching the footage made my heart shatter all over again and my blood started to boil. This is how Jason murdered my parents.
I started to weep all over again when I heard their screams coming from inside. They were at home sleeping peacefully when Jason attacked them and now, he wanted to blame me for their deaths.
“With all you’ve watched, I doubt you can deny killing your own parents.” The detective said as he stared at me in disgust.
“I didn’t do it.” I muttered. I don’t care about what he thought of me. All that was on my mind was how to get out of this mess.
If I don’t clear my name, how would I carry out my revenge? What about my daughter?
“All evidence that you murdered your parents points to you. Why are you still denying it??” He asked, rather fiercely.
“Maybe it’s because I didn’t kill them.” I screamed at him.
“Shouting will do you no good. These evidence here is enough to get you jailed for life because your crimes aren’t just one. You broke and entered, set a house on fire that destroyed properties and took the lives of two people that are also your parents. There no denying that.” He said.
“I didn’t kill them. Why will I ever think of murdering my own parents?” I asked.
“Maybe it’s because you don’t get along with them.” He answered.
“What the fuck are you saying?”
“We received a tip from someone close to you that you and your parents aren’t on talking terms, you always argue with them. That’s why they sent you out of their home.” He said.
What?!? What nonsense is he spouting from his mouth.
“Someone close to me? Who exactly did you get that from?” I asked in shock.
“You don’t really expect that I would tell you that.” He said giving me a ‘are you stupid?’ look.
“Really? Sorry to burst your bubble but I didn’t murder them. I love my parents and wouldn’t ever think of doing such a thing to them.” I defended.
“Whatever you say now doesn’t matter. We have enough evidence to lock up psychos like you forever.”
“What did you just call me??” I asked as I stood up angrily.
“A psycho. What do you want to do about that?” He asked as he used his finger to push my shoulders harshly making me stumble back.
“People like you shouldn’t be allowed to walk amongst others.” He muttered as he continued pushing me backwards. Then he grabbed my hair tightly making me wince in pain.

“What do you think you’re doing??” Someone said as the door was suddenly pushed open.
The detective holding me suddenly let go of me when he saw the man. I noticed how his legs quivered in fear. My guess is that he is one of the higher ups.
“Why are you manhandling her like that?” The man asked.
“I was just angry that she kept denying it despite all the evidence points to her… sir.” The detective answered as he bowed down his head.
“Does that give you a right to assault her??” He shouted.
“No sir.”
“She’s just a suspect till she’s proven guilty. Besides, she isn’t a suspect anymore.” The man said.
“What??
“What??” I and the detective chorused in shock.
“Her alibi counts. Plus, the two footages are fakes.” The man said.
“A fake??” The detective asked again. The man ignored him and turned his attention to me.
“I’m so sorry Miss Natasha. We made a mistake, we should have been more thorough with the investigation.” The man said as he bowed his head slightly. Then, he nudged the detective to do the same. The detective bowed his head in shame as he apologized.
“I guess I am free to go now?” I asked.
“Oh.. yes you are.” The man answered.
“Okay, but first, there’s something I need to do.” I said.
“Sure.”
I smiled when the man said that. I turned to the detective and grabbed his hair harder than he did to mine. His expression turned to that of pain and he tried to remove my grip on it but that only made me pull on his hair harder.
I let him go when I had my fill. I straightened my clothes and walked out of the room leaving behind the man with a shocked expression on his face and the detective in pain.
When I got outside the police station, I was about to go board a taxi when I heard a car honk at me. I turned towards it and a smile escaped my lips when I saw Ryan coming out of the car.
I didn’t know what got into me. I ran to where he was and pulled him to myself, engaging him in a warm embrace.
