Chapter 41
Chapter 41
Arthur hugged Lucy swiftly and used his body to block her from everyone's sight. His expression was ice-cold.
"Arthur, you..." Seeing them hugging each other so tightly, Lizbeth bit her lip hard as tears welled up in her eyes.
Arthur and Lucy were already divorced. How could they still do such a thing?
"Your hunger is so insatiable that you can get down and dirty even in a ward. Bravo, Mr. Johnson!" With one hand in his pocket, Jenson's eyes were filled with mockery.
Lucy felt embarrassed like never before being huddled up in Arthur's embrace. She pushed him away with her all might and ran out with a hand on her chest!
Arthur wanted to chase after her, but Lizbeth blocked his way and said softly, "Arthur, I heard that your leg is injured and you need to rest in bed. You'd better not chase after her. She schemed to get into your pants eight years ago, so I'm sure she won't leave you automatically now."
Lucy ran out of the ward under the other patients' curious gazes before finally stopping at a turning in the corridor.
She trembled as she tried to fasten the buttons on her shirt. However, her vision was a little hazy and her hands were shaking too much, and she couldn't even do up one button after two minutes.
Splash!
Tears dripped onto her hand, cold and icy.
She wiped her tears and continued to button her shirt with trembling hands.
Lucy took a deep breath and waited until strength came back to her legs before leaving the corridor and entering a lift.
There were many people in the elevator. When they saw her coming in, their gazes fell on her neck, and their expressions were a little strange.
Lucy stood in the center in a daze, completely unaware of their stares.
Ding!
The elevator reached the first floor.
Lucy was the first to walk out, but the conversation between two people behind her travelled to her ears...
"She can't even dress properly. Her breasts are showing!"
"She doesn't look like a decent girl. She even has hickeys on her neck! Besides..."
She couldn't hear what the other person said because she had already walked away.
It wasn't Lucy's first time hearing judgements like that, but the one she remembered the most was
Arthur saying, "You're not similar to Elyse at all. You only deserve to be a high-class prostitute!"
She licked her dry lips and looked up at the sun. It was so bright that she felt like letting her tears fall.
"What's there to be so hurt about?" Lucy laughed bitterly and drove home.
Life had to go on no matter what.
Worried that Kylah would wake up hungry, she stopped at a burger joint to buy two burgers before going back.
Kylah was already awake. She was watching television while eating potato chips as if nothing had happened. When she saw Lucy, she shouted, "Hurry up and cook something. I'm starving!"
"Here, babe. Your favorite cheeseburger." Lucy put the burger on the table.
In fact, she found it more normal for Kylah to be crying her eyes out. Now that Kylah wasn't crying, she actually felt more worried.
"At least you're thoughtful enough!" Kylah took the burger as her gaze fell on Lucy's neck.
Lucy quickly pulled her shirt closer and passed Kylah a napkin. "Hurry up and eat, or it won't taste good once it's cold."
"Lucy." Kylah took the napkin as her expression became serious. "How are you actually planning to deal with matters with Arthur?"
"Don't worry about that. Let's eat!" Lucy unwrapped the burger and pushed it to Kylah.
"Lucy, don't...mph!" Before Kylah could finish talking, Lucy stuffed the burger into her mouth.
Lucy smiled and said, "Babe, be a good girl. Eat your burger!"
With that, she started eating her burger, obviously unwilling to discuss that topic any further.
Kylah had her own troubles too, so she didn't ask any more questions.
Ring—
Ring—
While they were eating, Kylah's phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and shut off her phone right away.
"Is it Oliver?" Lucy asked.
"Hmm." Kylah put down her burger and said, "Lucy, I'm full. I'm going to get some rest in my room!"
As she was leaving the living room, her eyes were red-rimmed.
Lucy threw the leftovers into the bin. Since Kylah was staying with her that day, she had better bring Caden home too.
"Babe, I'm going out for a moment. I'll be back soon!" she said to Kylah and left.

Two hours later, at the Byrd family.
Screech—
An ear-piercing screech of tires against tarmac sounded out, and a red BMW drifted to a halt.
Lizbeth opened the door and got out of the car. Her face was written with anger and sadness, and her eyes were still teary.
She had tagged after Arthur since she was a child and crushed on him silently.
To make herself worthy of him, she had tried her best to be number one in her skills and academics. Nevertheless, why would he rather be with a scheming woman and never even bother to spare her a glance?
"Lizbeth, don't drive so fast next time. It's not safe." Jenson walked beside her, his eyes full of affection and worry.
"It's none of your business!" Lizbeth turned around, pushed him hard, and yelled, "Get lost! Who do you think you are? Who gave you the rights to boss me around?"
As she yelled, she suddenly squatted down and cried loudly.
Lucy had been dead for five years. Why did she have to come back and fight for Arthur against her?
What a b*tch, what a scheming b*tch! Lizbeth hated her to the core!
"Alright, don't cry." Jenson crouched down and gently patted her on the back.
Lizbeth raised her head, her eyes red-rimmed, and pushed him again. "I already told you not to poke your nose into my business. Can't you understand the language? You said you'd help me deal with that b*tch, so why didn't you tell me about her b*stard child? You liar!"
She was talking very loudly because of her fury, and everyone in the villa could hear her.
"What's the matter? Lizbeth, why are you crying? Tell daddy what made you sad!" Mr. Byrd hurried out. His heart ached to see his darling daughter like that.
Lizbeth ignored him and continued weeping.
Arthur was usually so cold to her that she thought that was his personality. However, only that day did she find out that Arthur had his wild moments, except that he only showed that side of him to Lucy!
"Mr. Byrd, go inside first. I'll comfort her." Jenson raised his head and smiled kindly.
"Well." Mr. Byrd patted him on the shoulder. "Thank you, son. Lizbeth's still a child. Thanks for bearing with her."
"How am I a child?" Lizbeth stood up, and she cried even harder. Arthur already didn't like her, but why was her father talking bad about her too?
Mr. Byrd looked at her, sighed, and went back inside.
Lizbeth turned to Jenson and wiped her tears. "Do you also think I'm a child?"
"You're just emotional." Jenson took out a handkerchief and wiped her tears. His pleasant voice sounded exceptionally gentle. "Don't cry. I've already looked into the matter you asked me to."
