Chasing Back My Ex-wife

Chapter 24

Chapter 24

The driver deliberately held his breath.

The moment Arthur was done with work, he had come to see Lucy. However, what he found was Lucy being intimate with some other guy. No wonder Arthur was angry!

Arthur clenched his fists and his temples throbbed.

He wanted to just get out of the car and punch the man in the face! However, his relationship with Lucy was so tense at the moment. Him doing such a thing would only worsen their bond.

"...Drive away!" After a while, Arthur forced himself to look away from Lucy and let the rage burn in him. Bitterness filled his chest.

The driver answered in a trembling voice, wiped the cold sweat off his forehead, and stepped on the accelerator.

About ten minutes later, the car pulled up to Lindbarry Chateau.

Arthur got out of the car with a grim expression, looking very frightening.

"Good evening, sir!" The servants formed two rows with their heads bent, scared of provoking their master.

Arthur walked into the hall and tossed the documents aside. He collapsed on the couch with an exhausted look.

The servants rarely saw him like this. They lowered their heads and breathed as lightly as possible to make themselves seem invisible.

A moment later, Arthur straightened up and phoned his assistant. "Send me information on all of Lucy's admirers in the recent years."

"Yes, sir," said his assistant. In less than four minutes, he sent the information to Arthur.

Arthur opened his email, and the first thing he saw was that handsome man he didn't know.

Name: Maddox Pate

Height: 183 cm

Identity: Lucy's senior at school, the Pate Group's only son

As Arthur read through the information, he swiped the screen so hard that it nearly broke.

Maddox and Lucy had already known each other even before she and Arthur had gotten married. However, he had hated her so much for scheming to get into his pants that he hadn't cared about her at all.

Lucy...

It turned out that there were so many men eyeing her, and she had always had other choices besides him!

Uneasiness crept over him slowly, making him feel depressed above the emptiness he already felt.

Thinking about her getting slapped that day made him feel even more irritable.

...

As the Bentley pulled away, Lucy spotted its car plate in the flash of headlights, and her face paled at once.

"What's wrong?" Maddox was a little worried, unsure if she was feeling unwell.

"I'm fine." Lucy could not explain why she felt so guilty. She felt as though she were a wife caught cheating on her husband, and that feeling made her very annoyed. "Maddox, it's late. Head back and get some rest."

"Okay, goodnight." Disappointment flashed in his eyes at Lucy being in such a rush to chase him away.

"Okay, goodnight." Disappointment flashed in his eyes at Lucy being in such a rush to chase him away.

However, Lucy was busy thinking about Arthur and did not notice the change in his expression.

After he drove away, Lucy looked down the street, but the Bentley did not return.

She didn't know whether she felt disappointed or happy about that. The pent-up emotions made her feel uncomfortable, and she downed a big glass of water when she got home. Only then did she feel better.

Lucy sat on the couch, her thoughts in a mess.

How long had Arthur been there? How much had he seen earlier? Would he have misunderstood? Why did he leave? Was he angry?

One by one, those questions overwhelmed her, and she began to feel anxious.

However, she no longer had anything to do with Arthur, did she? Why did she have to consider his feelings?

Ring—

Ring—

Lucy immediately grabbed her phone. When she saw the caller ID, she felt an imperceptible sense of disappointment. "I've sent Maddox away. I'm home."

"Scratch that for now!" Kylah was very agitated, and she was so angry that she felt like killing someone. "Your mom, dad, and your brother came to borrow money again. Do you think I should lend any to them?"

Lucy hadn't contacted her family since the plane crash. Her family still thought that she was dead.

Hearing that, Lucy was momentarily dazed. She had heard similar stories many times before, but every time she heard it, her heart hurt till she couldn't breathe.

Kylah didn't rush her, but she was breathing heavily. She must be pretty pissed off.

"Kylah." After a long while, Lucy took a deep breath and said with some resolution, "Are they at your place right now? I'll come over in a cab!"

"Don't, don't come! You tried so hard to shake them off. If you do this, all your effort will go to waste!" Kylah disagreed at once. She had called Lucy just to discuss something. She couldn't let Lucy go over and get bullied!

Lucy licked her dry lips and lay down on the couch tiredly. "Then what will happen to you? They won't give up so easily if they can't get the money."

Her family members were practically leeches. If they couldn't get what they wanted from her, they would leech off her friends.

Fortunately, that particular friend was Kylah. If it were someone else, they would probably have cut Lucy off long ago!

"I called you because I wanted to tell you this in advance. I've been lending them money and it's become a habit to them. So I've decided to find some thugs to scare them off!"

"I called you because I wanted to tell you this in advance. I've been lending them money and it's become a habit to them. So I've decided to find some thugs to scare them off!"

"Scare?"

Kylah tutted. "Lucy, they don't even care if you're dead or alive. Don't tell me you still care about them?"

Every time she lent money to that family, the money came from Lucy!

"... As long as you don't injure them, it's fine. Otherwise, they'll keep badgering you." Lucy hesitated for a while but didn't stop Kylah.

Just like what Kylah said, if this went on, there wouldn't be an end to it!

Lucy gave her a few more words of advice and hung up. She sat there blankly for a while, then took a bath and climbed into bed.

Ring! Ring!

Someone was ringing the doorbell.

Who could it be at such a late hour? Could it be Arthur?

Lucy grabbed a large powerbank and dragged her feet to the door, then peered out through the peephole.

If it was Arthur, and he had lust for her, she would hit him with the powerbank!

However, the visitor was a young girl she hadn't seen before!

"Are you Ms. Lucy Morgan? Here is your speed delivery!" The girl sounded nice.

Lucy answered and opened the door cautiously. After all, she hadn't seen anyone sending out deliveries at that hour of the night.

The girl didn't mind her wariness and placed the package in her hand. Then, she ran off with a smile.

"Hey, kid! I didn't order any medicine! Did you send it to the wrong address?" Lucy called out after the girl, but the girl merely made a funny face at her and ran off.

Lucy took the ointment into her bedroom and looked at the usage column. She read it out softly, "To reduce swelling and pain..." Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

She touched the hand print on her cheek with a complicated expression.

Only Arthur and Lizbeth knew about her getting slapped. There was no way Lizbeth would send her medication, so that only left Arthur!

Lucy dug out her phone and brought up Arthur's number. After hesitating for a long time, she still didn't click on it.

She washed her face again to get rid of the skincare products she had applied. Then, she applied the ointment and lay down in bed.

She had something on her mind, so she kept staring at the ceiling and didn't fall asleep until it was nearly 2 a.m.

However, after finally managing to fall asleep, nightmares haunted her the whole night. She dreamt of those things she had gone through in the past.
