Chapter 17
In his office, fully designed to his taste, he tried to focus but nothing was coming through, he needed to finish up this work before the next meeting, he looked at his wristwatch it was almost dismissal time, he wanted to see, Sydney before he left for the clubhouse,
Getting up, he walked out of his office, but Miss Dana was already at his door,
“Miss Dana?” He whined, she must have come again with work.
“Boss, this is the final file for the drafting,” she smiled handing him the big brown envelope.
“Where’s Sydney? He asked, she looked at him, she had been itching to ask what their relationship was, Sir Jaxton seemed pretty much close to her as she was to Sir Paxton. Those two were like cats and rats.C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
“She fought with ma’am Cynthia and she’s in Boss’s office, am afraid that it might not end well.” She clarified.
“Why did you bring the file and not Sydney.” She walks in and keeps it on his table before saying,
“Sydney is the company’s marketer, not Secretary.” He bits his lips, Paxton was not making things easy for her too.
“Alright, I’ll be heading to my office then” she left, he bought out his phone, wanting to dial her number, but then she wasn’t picking up,
” where could she be again? He turned on his GPS.
“The building’s rooftop? What the hell is she doing there? Thought it was out of ban for staff, Eishhh” he closes his laptop and headed for the rooftop
********
After she left his office and went to the rooftop to clear her head.
It’s been years since she graduated
from the college and this was undeniably her first real job after graduation and it was a decent one, she wouldn’t let the likes of Paxton stop her from achieving g her dreams, her eyes swelled up in tears,
“Can’t I just be happy, this once? What’s with all this ruckus” she wipes her eyes with the back of her hand.
The cool breeze blew across her calming her down for a little while but she was not in the mood to return to the office because that will mean her working.
The view from the rooftop of the building was magnificent, she could hear the car horns the bumming music, and the ululation of the street kids. Indeed, Manhattan had a lovely view from up there and it was indeed the best place to put her emotions which her arrogant boss had stumbled upon.
“What are you doing up here?” Jaxton’s deep voice interrupted her thought, she swayed her head to the direction of his voice, it was Jaxton.
“What’s he doing here?” She mumbled.
“What did you say?” Her slant look made him furrow his eyes at her. It was strange for her to accept defeat knowing Sydney was not the type to grow emotional after a fight with Paxton.
“Will you answer my question? Or leave and let you cry out your eyeballs. Note, that doesn’t make my brother any Less arrogant than he already is.” He teased, and even though it was a joke it sounded true, she rolled her eyes at him, “So you were there all this while watching me cry without saying anything?”
He let out a small laugh, “What would you have had me do?, Watching you cry was fun actually”. She threw him a friendly punch but felt the pain instead.
“Ouch” she whimpered in pain
he laughs, “am quite muscular for your information ” she puts up a small smile.
“I heard from miss Dana the reason for the brawl and at this point, I don’t think you can last up to a month with Paxton, literally speaking, you two have turned the office into a wrestling ground. Why not work with me instead besides am also part of the board and the CEO too, won’t stress you the way Paxton does, see it as a win-win for you.
Sydney thought about the Idea, it seemed nice and she was touched he cared that much for her, and although Paxton was a hard nut to crack she prefers him to be her boss instead. Beneath Jaxton’s smile, she knew not his intentions and believed Paxton has been the one holding him back from telling her secret because he too would be affected.
“Hey, you aren’t saying anything, or am I too handsome that it muted your lips.”, He smirked.
She rolled her eyes, ” don’t be so full of yourself. Your offer is nice but sorry, I don’t want to easily give up on your brother. He may seem tough but I know deep down he had a good heart, which explains why am still here because he would have fired me if he wanted to.” She couldn’t believe she just praised him, Jaxton shook his head pitifully,
“Your choice, you seem to like his gruesome behavior to mine” He turned to her, and she blinked her eyes not understanding what he necessarily mean.
“What do you mean by that?” She arched her brows at him,
“Are you in love with my brother?” Her eyes widened, almost choking on herself, she lets out a few coughs,
“And why would you spill that nonsense? Hell no! That’s impossible” she defended, he must have misunderstood her when she said she was going to stick with Paxton himself, he was truly slow-witted.
“Well, that explains your weird reply” He answered,
“Well, your brains dumb to give you that as an idea of what I meant” she turned to leave,
“You forgot your cell phone!” He called after her, but she stopped, rushed to grab it, and then ran back into the elevator, Jaxton smiled,
“What a girl?” He whispered watching her leave.
Sydney went back to her office later and Sydney and Paxton worked like nothing happened that day. Sydney purposely avoids Paxton with all her might. Paxton knew Sydney was avoiding him but pretended not to. He wanted to see how long she will keep up with that, and it looks like the girl was pretty determined.
