Chapter 151
Chapter 151
Luca’s POV
It felt like I got hit with a bag of something which emitted a lot of dust floating around my whole insides
and clouding up my head all at once, it felt like I couldn’t process what she had said at first, but I knew I
had heard what Sofia had said right, it wasn’t a trick of the light or a play on my ears.
“Are you sure?” I heard myself faintly ask, because I was still finding it hard to process that piece of
information.
Cancer? It doesn’t freaking have a cure.
Now, it was all starting to make sense, I guess?
“Um, yeah.” She replied after a moment, her voice breaking a little as she sniffed once again, and I felt
another drop of tear land on my hand, and that broke my heart even more.
“How do you know that? She told you about it?”
Sofia started to shake her head immediately, and she sniffed once again before replying. “I overheard
her speaking to someone on the phone, and Matilda was with her at that moment.”
And then she glanced up at me, and I noticed the way her eyes were really glassy, with some drops
sliding down her cheeks, and then she started to speak instantly. “Um, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop at
first, I swear, I was just so worried about her, and so I heard something which was related to her health,
Ayo decided to stay behind and listen to all their conversation, and…” She was full on crying at this
point and I pulled her into my arms at one point, cutting into all that she was saying because it felt like
she was going to completely break down at a point, and also because I could feel my heart breaking at
each word.
“Shh,” I whispered as I pulled her into my arms even more, turning sideways a little so I could take
more of her body into my arms, since we were both sitting down side by side on the couch, and I
carded my fingers through her hair soothingly, dragging my jaw over her soothingly and trying to
console myself as well.
Sarah had been here for a long time and I had no idea how I was going to adapt to another unknown
stranger working for me here, and the thought of seeing Sarah working here anymore, left a really sad
feeling behind.
Come to think of it, I’ve been seeing her face every damn day in over five years and I couldn’t even
deny the fact that I cared for her so much at this point. I could remember how she doted on my brother
so much as soon as she had started working here.
My brother, who wasn’t as hard hearted as I was, had fallen in love almost instantly, almost the way
James was in love with her, only that the love my brother had had for her, and her for him, had been so
deep and pleasing to watch. I was also grateful to her those times even though I never said those
words out loud. Because I know how it was for my brother to grow up without a mother, and I loved how Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
she had made him feel something close to motherly love for some time… before everything had gone
downhill.
Sarah had tried to love up on me the way she did on my brother, but I never gave her a chance and
never allowed her to get past an invincible line which I had drawn down between the two of us ever
since I watched as she got close to my brother and best friend.
I pulled Sofia deeper into my arms and stroked my hand over her bare shoulders, as I whispered words
of consolation to her, while trying to get her to stop crying anymore.
It breaks my heart to see her cry, and even if this was my second time seeing her in tears, it was still so
heartbreaking, then coupled with the reason for her tears as well.
It just made me realize how much Sofia had come to care for Sarah in such a short period of time.
“It’s not bad that you had eavesdropped,” I continued after a moment and I watched as she struggled to
pull out of my arms, and I loosened my grip around her after a moment to watch her sit up, with tears
still staining her cheeks.
“It is, I shouldn’t have, it’s a really rude thing to do so.” She started to say passionately and I nodded
my head instantly, agreeing with her nevertheless.
“Yes, it is. It’s a bad and rude thing to do. But you had your reasons, and it wasn’t because you were
jealous or mad at her, it was because you were really worried about her, isn’t that so?” I asked after a
moment and I watched as she blinked wide wet eyes at me, right before she sniffed a little and gave a
unsure nod of her head.
“See? Then what you did wasn’t a bad thing, it was a good thing you told me about it.” I continued and I
reached forward and grasped her chin in her hand, stroking the skin there slowly, my hand meeting a
little bit of wetness there, which was obvious because of her tears.
“It is?” She asked after blinking once and I nodded my head instantly, and then I inched forward and
started wiping at her cheeks with my thumb, with our eyes locked – her wide, glassy blue ones focused
on my focused gray ones. My eyes dropped to her lips as I inched my thumb towards the side of her
lips where some of her tears had slide to, and I wiped the spot slowly, dragging my thumb towards a bit
of her lower lip where a little bit of her tears was on, feeling the softness of her lips beneath my thumb,
and then I inched lower, ending my journey beside the lower part of her lips.
“It’s alright, ok? I’ll speak to her tonight or tomorrow?” I said to her and watched as her eyes widened
instantly and I gave a shake of my head before placing my finger on her lip, which shut her up instantly.
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell her you told me about it, alright?” I reassured her, because I knew without even
thinking that, it was what she had wanted to say some moments ago. I watched as she nodded her
head twice, and embarrassed color flooded her cheeks in the next moment.
I couldn’t resist it, I pulled her into my arms immediately, and I heard the surprised gasp that slipped
past her lips just as the dude or her head got buried in my inner shirt, and I felt something that had
been restless in my heart for some time, finally started to calm down and relax.
“It’s going to be alright, ok? I whispered after a moment and felt her head move against my chest, right
before I felt one of her hands crawl over my chest a little to grip on my shirt a little.
“Promise?” I heard her muffled voice after and blinked confusingly for a moment, surprised as to why I
was hearing that familiar word which I haven’t used nor heard someone use on me in a really long time.
I moved my fingers through her hair ever so slowly before nodding my head above hers and replying
after a moment. “Yeah. I promise.”
