Bedmates Soulmates

CHAPTER 99

Kira was incapacitated:

With one dislocated shoulder, both cheeks swollen, büsted lips, and the weight of a bodybuilder's strong knee on her back, she could only watch helplessly as a pair of heels strutted towards her. Kayleigh raised one leg.

When she saw the hem of her dress was ripped, she went berserk.

She was going to stomp so hard on that bitch's face!

Luca knitted his brows. Who gave the order to make the suspects suffer?

The officer shrugged. 'I got it from the deputy chief, who must have gotten it from someone else. The

chief, I suspect."

Other than the mayor, only Austyn had that kind of sway over the chief.

"He's throwing his weight around just to seek revenge for his woman?" Luca thought.

Wasn't that a little over the top?

Take me to their cell," Luca said. "Who are they, anyway?'noveldrama

He thought they had to be pretty connected for Kayleigh to turn to Austyn for help.

Nobodies, the officer said. 'No background or connections, at least none we're aware of. No one has

been to see them yet."

Luca shook his head.

He refused to believe that Kayleigh, an A-lister with a full-time agent, two assistants and her company's entire upper management at her beck and call, could not handle two nonentities. He bet the report of her injuries was also grossly exaggerated.

All this drama, just to get Austyn involved.

Luca knew his friend had a rather unusual relationship with the actress.

Austyn bankrolled Kayleigh's attempt to break into showbiz, set her, up in an upscale apartment, and dropped everything at a call from her.

But this was going too far.

He was bending the rules to destroy her enemies.

Luca made a mental note to talk to his friend later.

By unconditionally indulging the actress, Austyn only doing himself a grave disservice.

"This way, Captain. The officer turned left once he reached B2

Luca fished a cigarette out of his pants pocket and dangled it from his lips, unlit.

He ambled down the dim hallway.

When the officer stopped in front of a cell near the end of the row, Luca glanced inside.

A woman was lying on the floor, next to another prone figure. -

She looked up at the sound of footsteps, locking eyes with Luca.

Her eyes were red, puffy, and wet.

Her face was pallid and smeared with dirt.

Her lips were chapped.

Her long hair was unkempt.

Luca dropped his cigarette when he saw who it was

The Boy W la Missing

"What the fuck!"

Austyn left the conference room after an hour-long meeting.

Kai walked alongside him, updating him on his schedule.

then dinner at seven with Director Fleming, Miss Woods called twenty minutes ago. She wants you to

call her back."

'Anything else?" Austyn entered his office on the forty-eighth floor.

'Mr Flenderson approached me. He seemed to have something to say, but left before you finished the meeting."

Kai peeked at his boss' face. 'Maybe it's about Young Madam."

Austyn stopped, shooting a sharp look at his assistant.

Kai winced and bowed his head.

He'd spoken out of turn again.

Maybe he should sign up for one of those corporate communication workshops.

*Ask Paul to come up, Austyn said.

'Yes, Boss."

The assistant closed the door gently on his way out.

'Boss should just drop his act," Kai thought. 'He keeps a straight face, but raked every manager over the coals in the meeting just now. It's obvious he's not happy, yet he refuses to acknowledge it. Tsk-tsk. I talk too much; he talks too little. Maybe I should save him a spot at the comms workshop.' Kal heaved a sigh.

When the boss was unhappy, everyone else suffered.

That was why he was cooped up in the office on a Saturday afternoon, his long-planned fishing trip put Indefinite hold.

But when Kai thought about the glum-faced managers dragged back to the office for weekend OT, he cheered up. Misery loves company, indeed.

There was only one reason for Austyn to be in such a bad mood.

Kira was missing.

Her phone was switched off.

She did not come home.

Austyn went to Stamford General, but she was not in her father's ward.

A nurse there said she had not been by for the past couple of days.

Where else could she go?

Austyn drummed a finger on his desk and checked his phone for the umpteenth time., Nothing.

The Bans Wife is Missing

Paul hustled upstairs. Mr McCarthy."

"Kai said you were looking for me."

Paul opened his mouth but paused,

'Cat got your tongue?' Austyn threw him an irritated look. 'Don't waste my time."

"Uh, it's just like you told me there was no need to give you chapter and verse on Miss Hewitt's activities, so I'm not sure if I should mention this."

"Mention what?'

"I called her yesterday afternoon, right after she left work, to clarify something in the report she emailed me. But she didn't pick up. Since it was kind of urgent, I tried her number again later. Nothing. I texted her. No reply. I know it's the weekend, but she's not the type to go incommunicado all of a sudden. Sol thought....

After Mariana called Kira to the carpet last time, Kai pulled Paul aside and quietly told him not to let this happen again.

The boss did not wish to see Miss Hewitt treated this way, Kai had said.

Paul, thinking he was in the boss' black books, kept his eyes peeled for anything Hewitt-related

Though not answering her phone did not seem like a big deal, Paul decided to err on the side of caution. Austyn stared at Paul, unblinking. "What time did you call her yesterday?"

'Uh, about six pm."

It was almost six pm now.

It had been almost twenty-four hours since anyone could get hold of Kira.

It was Saturday.

When Austyn couldn't reach her, he thought she was out on a shopping trip with her friend Giana.

To blow off steam, probably.

But Paul's report told him he was wrong.

Kira might dodge Austyn's calls, but she would never ignore work-related communication.

Austyn shoved back his chair and stood up abruptly.

He headed straight for the door.

All of a sudden, it was pushed open from the outside.

A man stood on the threshold, peering inside.

He saw the dark look on Austyn's face. 'Have I come at a bad time?"
