Bedmates Soulmates

CHAPTER 93

People Have Killed For Less

The rear left door of the black Rolls-Royce opened.

A man exited, dressed in black from head to toe.

He stood in front of Kira. 'Miss Hewitt.'

Kira looked up, startled at the sight of the Agent J doppelgänger. 'Who are you?"

He pointed to the Rolls-Royce. 'Miss Woods is waiting for you."

Miss Woods?

Kayleigh Woods?

Kira took another look at the man and recognised him as the actress' bodyguard.

She'd met him when Kayleigh summoned her to a meeting at a café outside Stamford University.

"What does she want?

The bodyguard just motioned towards the door. 'Miss Woods would like to speak with you. Please get in the car.

Kira caught a glimpse of the woman's face from the window, half rolled down.

'Sorry, tell your employer that I'm not free at the moment."

Kira crossed her arms.

Kayleigh was Austyn's lover.

Well, one of many, apparently,

Kira was not in the mood to talk to any of them.

'Miss Woods says she has agreed to your terms. Frank Budd kept his voice low. 'Hence this meeting."

"What terms?'

"Ten million dollars."

"What ten-" she stopped.

The memory came back to her.

It was the first meeting between wife and mistress.

Kayleigh asked Kira to leave Austyn

When Kira refused, the actress offered her money.

She proposed a hundred thousand.

Kira countered with ten million, tongue-in-cheek.

She'd tossed it out of her mind as soon as she left the café.

It was clearly a joke.

She didn't expect Kayleigh would take it seriously.

Was the actress willing to part with ten million dollars just to cement her relationship with Austyn? People Have Killed For Less

Showbiz was even more lucrative than Kira had thought.

Kayleigh sat in the backseat of the Rolls-Royce, drumming her fingers on the leather seat.

She couldn't show her face in such a public place without getting swamped by fans.

So she sent Frank.

It had been almost five minutes.

What was taking them so long?

Who does the girl think she is? Kayleigh grumbled. 'A Hollywood diva?

Just as she was about to lose her patience, the car door finally opened.

Kayleigh leaned back in her seat and crossed her arms.

Kira plonked herself down beside her.

'Drive," Kayleigh ordered.

Frank got in the driver's seat and started the engine without a word.

The car shot forward, throwing Kira against her seat.

She quickly buckled up.

The car sped away, passing Giana on the sidewalk.

She'd spotted Kira getting into the car and waved, but Kira did not see her.

Giana stood on the spot, confused,

'Didn't she ask me out? Where's she going? Whose car is that?"

Feeling uneasy, Giana flagged down a taxi. 'Follow the black Rolls-Royce."

She called Kira. 'Where are you?

Kira, unaware that her best friend was following her, fibbed.

She tried to sound as nonchalant as she could manage, 'Sorry, Giana, I can't have dinner with you tonight. My manager just called me and asked me to do OT. I'm headed back to the office right now. I'll call you later to set something up for tomorrow." 'Overtime? Right now? Giana narrowed her eyes.

"Uh-huh

"On a Friday night?"

"Yeah. My manager can be a real hard ass. Anyway, I'm on the bus right now. It's quite crowded and noisy.

I can't talk. I'll call you back later. Bye."

Kira hung up before Giana could say anything else.

"Yeah right. Giana rolled her eyes. 'A Rolls-Royce bus."

"Uncle,' she said to the taxi driver. "Step on it. Don't lose the car,"

Kira put away her phone.

Kayleigh sneered. 'Miss Hewitt, you just lied to your friend without blinking an eye. I must say, you are

quite a natural. Aren't you afraid you'll be caught out?'

Kira stared straight ahead. "Your bodyguard said you're prepared to offer me ten million dollars. Let's get

to it then."

She didn't want to talk to Austyn, let alone a member of his harem.

Kayleigh examined her manicured fingernails.

They were done up in chrome, with a sprinkling of crystals on the underside of each nail.

It cost her two thousand dollars and a three-week wait.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Kira's unadorned hails, trimmed neatly, with a healthy pink hue.

It reminded Kayleigh that the girl was younger than her, and that ticked her off.noveldrama

'I can give you ten million,' she said in a cold voice. 'But what can you give me?'

'Don't you want me to leave Austyn?"

'Will you do it?'

Kira emulated her hostess and leaned back in the leather seat.

The thick, soft hide provided cushioning and support.

The leather was cool to the touch, and had that pleasant, 'new car' smell.

Money certainly could not buy happiness, but it could buy comfort, at least.

Austyn sure spared no expense in pampering his lover.

Kira shook off thoughts of the man and said with an irreverent smile, Ten million is a lot of money. People have killed for less. All you're asking me to do is to leave a man. To that, I say, hell yes." Kayleigh caught Kira's smile in the rearview mirror and gave a derisive head shake.

The girl was stupider than she looked.

Austyn's net worth had long ago surpassed ten million.

If Kira stayed with him and won his heart, she could have access to more money than what she knew to do with.

For a penny now, she gave up the pound for the future.

It made Kayleigh wonder, not for the first time, what Austyn saw in the money-grubbing girl.

The actress took out her cheque, filled and sighed, and tossed it onto the seat between the two of them.

'Here's a hundred K as deposit. Once you leave Austyn and get out of Stamford, I'll give you the rest of the money."

Kira picked up the cheque and inspected it, front and back.

"It's not going to bounce, is it?"

Kayleigh huffed. I've issued cheques bigger than this one. There has never been a problem."

Kira was beaming. Thank you for your generosity, Miss Woods. It was a pleasure doing business with you." Kayleigh knitted her brows.

The girl's smile unsettled her.

Could she have another trick up her sleeve?
