CHAPTER 84
Go
Gideon Wanted Me, Not You
'You!'
Liam thought, though he didn't say it out loud.
The girl was like a rabbit who ducked into its burrow at the first sign of danger.
He had just drawn her out and didn't want to scare her away by being too forward.
'T'll think about it," he said instead. "When I have an idea, I'll let you know. How about that?"
'Okay, sure.' Kira could only agree.
During the rest of the dinner, Liam behaved like a perfect gentleman.
He could charm the pants off anyone if he wanted, and Kira presented a fascinating challenge.
When he sensed she shied away from any personal topics, he changed tack and regaled her with stories of his culinary adventures. Food was always a safe topic, and Kira was a good listener.
She didn't exactly hang on his every word, but always gave indications that she was paying attention.
Her jaw dropped when he told her about eating fried tarantulas.novelbin
"You're just pulling my leg," she said.
Liam threw his head back and laughed.
"You got me." Liam shrugged.
For a while, Liam Cane forgot about his hidden agenda and allowed himself to enjoy a nice dinner with a nice girl.
When Kira checked her phone, she was shocked to see that almost two hours had passed.
'Excuse me, I need to use the restroom.'
Liam said with a smile, 'Sure."
Kira followed a waiter who showed her the way.
When she walked past the pianist, someone seated at a corner table stared at her.
Georgina had to look twice to be sure it was Kira.
The girl seemed to be headed to the restroom, alone.
A perfect opportunity for Georgina to take her revenge
She stood up, treated her dinner date to a coy smile and said, 'I need to run to the ladies'. I'll just be at moment."
Harlan Knowles was busy admiring the flash of cleavage when she leaned down and replied absent-mindedly, 'Sure, sure." Georgina chased after Kira.
When Kira came out of the cubicle, she almost bumped right into Georgina, who w
the sink with her arms crossed.
"Well, well, well, look what I found."

Kira stepped around her half-sister and approached the sink, turning
on the tap.
Georgina spun around and stood next to her.
She sneered at Kira's reflection in the mirror. "How time flies. Just a few years ago, you were kneeling in front of me, begging for money like a dog. Now you tart yourself up and pimp yourself out to rich men in fancy restaurants. I have to admit, I underestimated you." Kira glanced around. 'It's strange. There're no dogs here. Why do I hear an incessant barking?
"You bitch!' Georgina raised her arm and was about to strike Kira.
Kira, eyes peeled, dodged the blow and stepped out of harm's way. 'Haven't you had enough slaps the other day?"
"Bitch!"
Kira's words brought back the humiliating memory at the hospital.
Twenty slaps!
Her cheeks were swollen for days.
Georgina locked herself in her room for a week and smashed all the mirrors.
I'm going to kill you!'
Despite her display of casual bravado, Kira was shaking.
Georgina was older and taller than her.
Kira wouldn't stand much of a chance in a physical fight.
An idea came to her when she saw the low-cut dress and immaculate makeup Georgina was wearing
"This is a fine dining restaurant,' she said, trying to hide the quaver in her voice. 'You must be here with a date. What's he going to think when he sees you making a scene in public like a crazy shrew?"
Georgina paused mid-stride.
She thought about Harlan.
It had taken her months to insinuate herself into the Knowles heir's life.
Tonight was their first date.
She had gone dress-shopping the day before and primped herself in front of the mirror for hours. She'd even shaved for the occasion.
All that hard work would go down the drain if Harlan caught her getting into fisticuffs.
Kira took advantage of Georgina's hesitation and stole towards the door.
'The man at the hospital stood up for you,' Georgina said, her upper lip curled in disdain. 'Now you've duped another mark into taking you out to such a high-end place. I have to take my hat off to you, Younger Sister. You're quite an expert at playing the field." There was nothing going on between her and Liam, but Kira didn't bother explaining that to her half-sister.

She was almost at the door when Georgina's words stopped her cold.
'If the man outside and the man from the hospital knew you and Gideon used to do the nasty, do y think they'll still want you?'
Kira clenched her fists.
Gideon's name was an arrow that shot straight into her heart.
VOU
She couldn't help the way she felt whenever his name was brought up, but she was not going to let Georgina get to her.
'Ah, you're scared now, aren't you?' Georgina smiled with malicious glee. "If you get on your knees and beg, maybe I'll consider helping you keep your dirty little secret.
In
n your dreams? Kira spat out the words coldly.
"Okay, then you better keep an eye out. Someday, when I feel like it, I'm going to drop the bomb on your two gold-digging targets. I'm going to tell them you're a whore that Gideon used to screw!"
Kira's eyes were burning with anger. 'I think you're talking about yourself!"
Georgina halted, taken aback.
Then a smug smile crept across her face. "Oh, so you knew about this. Did Gideon tell you? Did he also tell you that when we were in bed together, he said I was a hundred times prettier than you? That he'd fallen for me a long time ago, but kept quiet to spare your feelings? That in the end, he finally couldn't take it anymore and just had to have me?"
Kira felt bile rising in her throat.
Sticks and bones might break her bones, but words broke her heart.
She fled, lips quivering.
